    I really appreciate this viewpoint from the non Bratz collector- I think sometimes we can get caught up in what we hope a brand can be, but that side by side was jarring ! Pulled off the veil

    As a Bratz fan I am personally pretty happy with the actual dolls themselves and I think 25 is a pretty reasonable price to pay for them, I mean Monster High dolls are also 25 and the quality of these feels substantially better as far as hair quality and outfit construction goes, so it works for me. I don't particularly care about the accessories and never have so I don't really mind. But this feels like a good jumping off point, and just like how rainbow high improved as they went on I'm sure Bratz will do the same thing.
    Honestly I think it's less that Bratz are too expensive and more that Rainbow High are too cheap, I struggle to imagine how they were ever turning a profit with the quality they have (or I guess had) for they prices they charged.

      I definitely agree. I think Rainbow high sabotaged themselves by started at 25. 25 is expensive, no doubt, but in today's time that is pretty average and reasonable price for a well made doll 🤷‍♀️

    I think MGA is bringing both of them back on the cheap. Instead of choosing one or the other to pour all the money into, they're splitting it. Also the CEO likely got a big raise so that's where a hunk of the money went.

  • @Toxic.Mangaka

    Considering this is only wave 1 of the new playline for Bratz they didn’t just want to dive in head first by spending a whole bunch on accessories right off the bat.
    I’m sure it’ll get better with more and more releases.
    Also rainbow high dolls are still $35-$40 where I live, so when you consider how good the quality is for the Always Bratz for $25 there is really no issue here.
    Money doesn’t go as far as it used to in the early 2000s or even the 2010s. We need to stop expecting so much for so little.

    To my understanding, Bratz never had toes because their shoes we're supposed to be able to go on either foot. Most, if not all, Bratz She was do not have a left and a right, and I'm assuming it's to make it easier for kids so they don't have to worry about the shoes going on the wrong foot.

    There's something in marketing that's called desire. And that's what sets the price. They know people desire bratz dolls again that's why they can charge more. As you don't like bratz, you don't feel the desire. That's why you don't feel the price is right.

    i think we're at a really weird spot with the doll industry vs us as consumers. even if the rainbow high doll profits never, ever touched the always bratz development and production, i don't think it would be very different from how they are now. rainbow high experiencing a reboot at the same time the new bratz dolls being released feels closer to coincidental, maybe more like serendipity. MGA possibly hired someone to figure out how to make rainbow high profitable and the new direction they didn't put heart into came out right around the time a huge new reboot of their other big brand released. looking at previous rainbow high, current rainbow high, original bratz, always bratz, and the original and the current monster high, i can see a trend. original bratz were at a lower price point, had two outfits, and in general had more detailed accessories. rainbow high comes out, (are rumored to) have low profit margins until they slowly phase out the second outfits and finally phase out any of the high details we're used to and we get the current reboot we're seeing. the original monster high had detailed and themed outfits, and with the current generation, the outfits are cute, but can be lackluster and a lot of the time if they have multiple outfit pieces, the secondary clothing is printed and can be pretty ugly and uninspired. doll brands are trying to play it safe, ever increase profit margins (as always) while we're dealing with an increasingly noticable economic inflation, while still trying to appeal to the subsidiary markets like teens and adult doll collectors. i think whoever's now in charge of rainbow high decided to basically cut their losses with adult collectors and reformat the brand to be as box standard appealing to children with glitter, slime, and crystal animals. always bratz have cheap little accessories, much cheaper and less interesting than the previous rainbow high accessories, but they have strong outfit designs (for the most part. jade's cropped fishnets and weird booties my beloathed). monster high has fun new designs, but the printed fabrics, transparent booties, and ever growing collection of minor special lines (all the ones that are $30 and come in coffins with lock gimmicks) can be frustrating as a collector.
    rambling here, not sure if i totally make sense, i'm pretty sleep deprived. but, i think that since we've seen what these big doll brands can do when they put their minds to it, seeing cloe just have a cheap little burdine (barbie) purse and some other cheap looking accessories can be really disappointing. i figure that MGA doesn't want to take a big risk with this new always bratz release. i'm hoping that they'll eventually start hitting real home runs with it, i'm desperate for a good jade at a price point i can justify paying.
    TL;DR economic inflation, raised expectations, and bratz have never had defined toes (unless you turn safe search off, probably)

    I’m so glad you can see this perspective NOW even this this was EXACTLY how it was with monster high coming back. Cheap fabrics, boring plastic accessories, uninspired dated fashion. But because you hold nostalgia for it it was easier to see past those details. Even though g3 seems to be getting better details, all the g1 collector dolls are ABSOLUTELY being price gouged due to nostalgia and in an even worse way

  • @kattriella1331

    I remember OG Bratz. I had several of them as a kid. The whole reason I loved them was because they were edgier than Barbie. (I still loved Barbie, though , because she was BARBIE.) While I don't plan to collect the new ones, I'm still excited that Bratz are back. They stoll feel like they lack the edge they had back in the day, but let's be honest, "edgy" won't fly with parents nowadays . . . The irony being that the same parents who complain about edgy dolls are the kids who played with edgy dolls back in the day.
    Oh, to answer your toe question, I don't think they ever had them in their shoes, but if I recall correctly, there were beach Bratz dolls with bare feet that were just plastic nubs. So no, they've somehow never had toes.

    • @tirsus1482

    I'm a My Scene girl too, and from my outside perspective, Bratz collectors are being taken advantage of. What on earth happened to the Bratz shoes? Why are they plain boring shoes? What's with that purse? I could see 15-18.00 for her, but not 25.
    I'm holding my breath to see what happens next in the doll world. I hope there's a good shift somewhere 🙏.

    I think she is very cute. I am tempted. I don't think these are more overpriced than G3 MH by the way. Of course, it does not compare to an omg... I really believe that omg and RH/SH level of quality and details for the price were totally unsustainable.

  • @lauriegentry7764
    @lauriegentry7764 Před 7 měsíci +4

    I feel the same as you. I was pretty sure RH wouldn’t last long, giving us SO MUCH for SO LITTLE $$! I’m feeling withdrawals though.
    Bratz impressed my daughter and I, long ago, because it’s been decades since Barbie had given contemporary fashion with realism. The og Bratz gave us the fashions my daughter and her peers were wearing in high school. We exalted over the details and realism. But we really never actually collected them.
    Then for me, RH came out and blew everyone away! We could afford quality that usually would cost over $100! It was AMAZING! And they just kept getting better!
    Now it’s gone. Cold Turkey.
    I can’t get into Bratz re-heated. RH has ruined me, for contemporary play line dolls.
    I’ll be going back into BJD and antiques, maybe creating one of a kind Blythe dolls again.
    I will also dream that perhaps one day, RH will come back to the path they were on. Not this kiddie version…
    But I’ll always watch you and your friends.

    So I was never into Bratz, I think because of the make-up, specifically the excessive lip situation (seeing lipstick transfer on anything IRL makes me wanna vom, I'm sure there is some phobia out there for this feeling), so I think that's why I didn't want them... So Cloe would be an instant no for me. I did kind of like the new Sasha and Jade, and had Sasha on order with Amazon when she was still $24.99, but cancelled my order because I had too many bills... Now I'm thinking I might not be buying any. I'm so tired of dolls being less and less worth the money.

These are things that I've noticed for a while, and I point them out when I think about them in my videos, but maybe I don't get into the details of it enough? I don't know. I'm glad that you pointed this stuff out though, because I definitely agree and I'm seeing the same things you are!

    • @crayman775
      @crayman775 Před 7 měsíci +4

      “act like MGA walks on water”, tell me about it! The majority of my collection is MGA, but a good chunk of the fandom stanning a corporation is insufferable.
      Anything Mattel makes is automatically the worst regardless of what it is and anywhere on the price range or demographic it is, but MGA can do no wrong.
      Any criticism against an MGA doll is also met with “well Mattel would NEVER!” when we aren’t talking about Mattel. I don’t care what Mattel is or isn’t doing when I am talking about a MGA product. Consumers are allowed to criticise products they are paying money for!

  • @dollcrazy300
    @dollcrazy300 Před 7 měsíci +3

    I think the market for Bratz is bigger. Kids and adults love Bratz. Rainbow high dolls with the high fashions mostly appeal to adults, which is a smaller market. When products appeal to a larger market, companies feel they can charge more even though the product may not be as substantial as a lesser desired product.

  • @andthentheresmod
    @andthentheresmod Před 7 měsíci +2

    I won't be buying the new "Rainbow World" dolls and will only buy Always Bratz when and if they go on sale.
    That said, I think we've been spoiled these past few years, and discontent is the inevitable result.
    When Bratz were first released in 2001, a doll with two outfits cost $19.99. That's around $35 adjusted for inflation. Yet the anniversary dolls that replicated those original dolls retailed for only $25 (and eventually were priced lower).
    It's not surprising at all to me that MGA is no longer including a second outfit with the playing dolls, but rather cheap plastic accessories. Imagine if they included a second outfit but charged $35 for the playline dolls. There would be blood in the streets!
    When Rainbow High debuted in 2020, it was absolutely astonishing that we got a doll with two really high-quality outfits for only $26.99 (which adjusted for inflation would be the equivalent of $15 in 2001, 25% less than Bratz was when it debuted). But then when we started getting less for the same amount of money or even more money, we didn't say to ourselves "wow, we were so lucky the first wave was such a terrific value." No, we felt cheated.
    But inflation is a thing, and it's especially been a thing these past four years. Consumers want things to be just as good as they used to be but also the same price, and it's never gonna happen.
    The only thing we can do is to be more discerning about the non-essentials that we spend our money on. We can't demand that manufacturers provide stellar quality at cheap prices - it's not reasonable and it won't work.

  • @slytheringingerwitch

    Personally I think MGA got bored with Rainbow High and wanted to end it but couldn't bring themselves to do it themselves. A bit like when you know a relationship isn't working but you would rather that the other person did the deed. The extra money going into Bratz sounds just like an excuse to me, it sounds like we 'the general public' have imagined that is the case here when it isn't. I predict that RH (whatever its being called now) will be cancelled and MGA will forget about it.

    • @kattriella1331
      @kattriella1331 Před 7 měsíci +4

      IDK... RH only had 2 spinoffs. Middle School and Shadow High. I think it just wasn't as financially successful as adult collectors imagine them to be. RH were great quality but I imagine had low profit margins compared to other doll lines.
      What's more confusing to me is the end of LOLOMG. I was under the impression they were doing really well with kids. They've thrown all their chips on Bratz. I guess the Repros did unexpectedly well.

    I was never into Bratz, except for buying the London phone booth years ago & the re-released egg chair to display with other dolls. I've never been a Bratz fan, and I don't really see that changing. One thing about the budget of RH going to Bratz maybe a little, but personally I think MGA is putting their money into the MiniVerse. That line has been greatly expanded this past year. I think MGA is pulling away from the doll market a bit and turning more to the blind bag market. They can make more from LOL tots and the Miniverse. Everyone also hasn't really noticed LOL OMG have also been downgraded and soft rebooted as well. I think it's really unfortunate that MGA is downgrading most of their doll lines. My daughter who's 9 is excited about Bratz, and doesn't mind the new RH, but is really mad about the loss of wrist articulation. She's like how I am I suppose to change their clothes. It's nice seeing you put out videos again.

    If we have to talk about a brand that takes advantage of fans we have to talk about Monster High and Mattel🤣.

    All of the questions that were made in the video are 100% valid but we need to remember that we're also paying for the brand as well, just like, for example, gucci and H&M are sometimes using the same fabrics, one is targeted to a different audience then another and has a more valuable brand, same goes for Bratz, it is a world known doll brand that is in the toy industry for more then 20 years that's probably why they are cheaper to make but more epxensive. Hope this makes sense 😅😅

Up to now I am not a fan of G3 Monster High dolls except for SOME Clawdeen dolls (roughly about 3 only). The only reason monster high g3 is popular is the nostalgia fans get. However, as a person who, as a child only 2 bratz I must say I love these new ones. I got all 4 on Amazon. Unfortunately those cheap ugly accessories are a big NO for me and I'll likely give it to my younger cousin

      I feel the same way. I'm trying to get the RH dolls that I don't have, but the price is going up. I also found an ebay seller that can sew AMAZING RH/SH doll dresses with awesome detail, so getting those dresses has put something extra to my collection 😊. I'm hoping there will be future RH dolls that we will all like. Hopefully, MGA is still planning on that story book line. That could end up being the best ever! 😃 🙏

    Thanks for asking the question I have been tninking for a while. Don't get me wrong I like Bratz but let's be honest. For most people this line is nostalgic. MGA competition is Mattel(who has beat them in sales with Barbie) They produced less quality products and made way more money. Bratz line is doing the same as Barbie charging more for less cause at the end of the day the company is about the coin and they know that most of us will complain but we still keep buying them. Tnx for great video ❤️❤️

    I only ever had one Bratz doll that a friend sent me from the USA because they said it reminded them of me (I had blue streaks through my hair at the time lol) and one Bratzilla doll because I liked the two tone thing and I'm obsessed with dolls that have heterochromia (like me 😊)
    I think I'd only be interested if they did any of the sort of punky designs they did back in the beginning.

  • @ChadMarvelous
    @ChadMarvelous Před 7 měsíci +2

    I'm wondering if the price of the dolls is not so much a reflection of the cost to make the dolls as it is a reflection of the price points that retailers want to hit..? Because there is a psychology around certain products and their prices, if you price it too low then people assume it's 'not as good', but if you price it too high then it's unattainable. So they have to hit that sweet spot. And that might also determine what the doll companies decide to put in the box for us, they're trying to find a balance of what people are willing to pay, rather than having a set price/profit rubric to follow.

    I will always really appreciate your opinion Melissa, you are one of the pillars of the doll community!
    However, I think that the idea that Rainbow High’s budget is being funnelled into Bratz was more of an opinion, I can’t find a source (or a reason for MGA to do it). In my opinion the Bratz budget has probably come from the countless clothing collaborations they’ve had coupled with other cheaper ventures (mini bratz, makeup collaborations etc). MGA maybe started out smaller with the funding as Bratz was interrupted by law suits so many times and is an older brand that needs to establish its place in 2024.
    The thing with Rainbow High is that they seemed to always be operating at a level that wasn’t sustainable, the prices were consistently fluctuating and so was what the doll came with (e.g loosing second outfits then loosing wrist articulation etc). I think both doll lines are worth the price point as yes rainbow high has inset eyes and real lashes, but doesn’t have much articulation anymore or fabric bags/ shoes, Bratz has the articulation but no fabric bags or stand. I really hope there’s space for both brands as they are still miles above many other doll brands that are in the same price range. I guess the market has made it more difficult for RH and Bratz to DELIVER that gold standard.

    I wonder where’s that level of criticism when it comes to brands like barbie or monster high that actually needs improvement because their flaws actually affect the playability of the dolls. I don’t get why there’s such a double standard from the way MGA dolls are treated to the way Mattel dolls are treated.

    I really wonder if maybe we are seeing more plastic peices from RBH and Bratz because that is truly the budget MGA has right now . I asked myself this question when Dream Ella came out . What was the point of Dream Ella ? The dolls were not attractive in my opinion. Who approved that face mold ? Why would MGA create a doll line as a joke towards Mattel ? We are talking about millions of dollars that went into the concept , dolls, playsets etc. The CFO should have NEVER approved that disaster. There has been a major decline in Lol Omg , while I love those dolls there are just so many ! I couldn’t keep up, there is a new series at least twice a year. The fierce line was axed and so was Mermaize ( even though it look like they are coming back) The bratz reproductions are cool but the same dolls and same quantity have been collecting dust in Walmart shelves for months. I do honestly think MGA may be reversing its good quality and detail out of financial limitations at this point . I’m sure they were told to reel it in from investors. I think a lot of the budget is going into its mini verse line. I’m not a doll expert and I have a live and let live mindset about doll collecting. Do your thing your way. There seems to be a general theme with MGA - over assortment in every line they are making right now, and none of them are quality investments .

    I'm not a Bratz fan, and don't own any of them. I'm happy for the Bratz lovers, but they are not for me. From what I've seen, I don't think the funds from RH are being used to their best as you say. I actually saw Chloe this morning at Walmart, and checked her out, but I wasn't in love. She is pretty I suppose, but just not my type of doll. I was quite disappointed with all of these changes, and hoping for a new line of better Rh dolls similar to what we used to get. I also want Sh to come back. I think the greyscale dolls were great even though I know I am not the target audience. I also think the Storm Twins, Ainsley, and Glitch are very cool. I don't understand anything mga is doing right now and it's pretty sad seeing these changes :(

    I get it, Melissa. Bratz hit the market and the lack of noses plus feet molded with shoes wasn’t my thing. If I was a fan I’d be pissed at the half-hearted attention to accessories. Perhaps MGA spent their budget on securing the Jenner gal. None of that mini collab was impressive.

    I think that Rainbow High makes a very good profit for MGA, but of course their favorites remain Bratz dolls. They gained great popularity a long time ago and have a huge competition against Barbie, and they are contemporary with the new generation, ages 12 and older, but Rainbow High remains for me more beautiful, especially their eyes. And their eyelashes, I don't know if MGA will bring them back like before after the Bratz comeback hype ends, or maybe they won't stop freaking us with the new Rainbow High dolls in order to get the perfect Bratz dolls.

    I think Cloe is prettier and worth more in my opinion than the Bratz dolls that were released in 2016/2017. Her accessories are kind of cheap looking though but similar to the 2016/2017 dolls. I wish Bratz would get back to including the more realistic looking accessories that came with the OG Bratz dolls. But all in all I think the Cloe that you reviewed is worth the price.

  • @stellasdollandhandbagrevie4640

    I agree. I don't think they put the rainbow high budget in to Bratz, I think they know how much they can charge for them and used it to their advantage. The Food doll at most looks like it uses close to the same amount of raw materials a the rainbow high cheer line. I also make doll clothes as a hobby and know that two put a piece of clothing on a rainbow high doll takes a lot more fabric. Bratz could have sold for 22-24 dollars and old rainbow high could have sold for 25-28 dollars. Also rainbow high and Bratz are always on sale so I think there is a pretty good profit margin.

    But lets not talk about your faves, right? You know MH is the same price, doesnt come with stands and has one layered outfit? Dont get me wrong, bratz should be held to a higher standard, but just like new rainbow high is coming out with cuts, omg has cuts and even the core refreshes for new mh will come with less. Its not just RH. Bratz has been doing its thing since its relaunch, the repros has really garnered a budget for new dolls, but mga is still definitely hesitant on new bratz, sore spot for sure. I do wish more was done but bratz arent the reason rh got cut up like that. Lets not do that. You gladly would pay the same price for printed fabrics and plastic purses and backpacks already so im pretty sure i see where youre money is going to. Though i agree that bratz should be on a higher standard and some things should be changed. But RH was on that path to begin with. Just another reason for you to come for the girlies, this wasnt as much of a review as this was a rant tbh. Im glad you liked her though, she shows what $24.99 looks like and could look like for your favorite mattel brands.

    I am also intensely disappointed with the Rainbow High Rebrand situation, and it has definitely tainted my opinion on Bratz a bit. I even got a Bratz Reproduction doll, Tiana, and while I do like her as an individual doll, I can't help but see the Bratz doll line in a bit of a negative light compared to RH. I didn't grow up with Bratz very much, and while there are a few Bratz lines that look really cool to me, like the Midnight Dance and the Pretty N Punk lines, I intensely dislike the idea of MGA favoring Bratz over Rainbow High recently.
    Personally, I feel like MGA should be treating both doll lines with equal respect, not rebranding one in an odd way while treating the other with more respect and dignity. It just feels wrong and unbalanced to me. I may also be biased because Shadow High is my favorite doll line and my personal comfort doll line as well, and I intensely love how Shadow High and Rainbow High were before the RH Rebrand. Do I blame Bratz for the RH Rebrand? No. It's just MGA's oldest doll line that happens to be very successful. But do I wish that Bratz and RH were being treated with equal amounts of respect? Yes.🖤💜
