    This story arc with Ultron becoming a threat to the multiverse is closer to the Age of Ultron comic than in the film 2015. In the comic, Ultron returns and annihilates humanity. This reality is referred to as Earth-61112. The Wolverine of this reality then travels backwards in time to kill Hank Pym, the creator of Ultron, in the comics, preventing Ultron from being created. Wolverine returns to his future only to find that the Kree-Skrull War has reached Earth; Mainline timeline, Earth-616, the Avengers had prevented the war from reaching Earth. It's revealed that many things simply go wrong without Antman giving birth to Earth-26111.
    So Wolverine then goes back in time and stops himself from killing Antman. Logan then tells Antman to create a failsafe for Ultron, and then a few years later, on Earth-616, the Mainline Marvel Universe Ultron returns to Earth. Antman activates the failsafe this time, stopping Ultron before he can wipe out humanity. He then reveals to the other heroes that year's pier, a Wolverine, visited him from an alternate timeline to inform him about the return of Ultron.
    The comics What If...? stories also showcases alternate timelines of Marvel's Mainline universes. Using it's mainline characters and stories but giving us a What If...? Spin. While for the MCU these What If....? stories are alternate timelines of the MCU expanding the idea of the multiverse for the MCU.

    Yeah, this show is definitely "its own thing" separate from the main MCU timeline. But it helps establish the concept of the multiverse. Like, now we know that even though we lost Steve, Natasha, and Tony, there's always a chance that we might see another version of them in the future. And I'm almost certain that we will. They'll eventually say "Oh, alright, I'll take millions of dollars to play a superhero again."

    • @GeryonM
      @GeryonM Před měsícem +2

      I don't.
      Bringing RDJ back because fans want it will cheapen his actions in Endgane and destroy the concept of heroic action. If a hero gives the ultimate to stop the danger and the reaction is, " it's okay, we'll just get another." Then nothing is really a threat.
      On the flip side of that if they do just go to some other reality and steal Tony Stark because fan fefees are hurt what happens to the reality he's no longer in?
      Now if a different reality is on display, more in line with, say, an old man RDJ needs to help his reality and builds a suit for a younger hero I may be on board with that. Al long as it's not Iron Heart. Her comic run is atrocious and she is written like a villain in that.
      Unless Tony is tricked by into making the Iron Heart armor for the villain and must do what he can to stop her. That i would watch.

    23:07 is an awfully clever multilayered in-joke. First, Bernard in accounting asking after Peggy is a nod to, voice of The Watcher, Jeffrey Wright's other most well known role, Bernard Lowe in the show "Westworld". In that show, Lowe is a co-leader of an android populated theme park, whose job includes deep observation (watching) of park visitor interactions (hypothesized/executed in scenarios, much like what happens with the "What If" multiverses) with the androids (called hosts there) and exceptional work primarily with robotics, engineering, & technological advancement, all of which are mathematically inclined fields, as is Agent Bernard's field of accounting in "What If...". Second, both shows plots heavily involve artificial intelligences/androids who become self aware, philosophically questioning the status quo & eventually takes matters into their own hands (infinity gauntlet?) to a degree that affects humans & sentient life on a global scale. Third, I hesitate to explain here, as it's effectively spoilers for Bernard Lowe's background in "Westworld", however, if or when you get a chance to watch the show, it is utterly mindblowing & adds a tertiary layer to the mention of Agent Bernard here and the androids on "What If" . TL:DR. you have Agent Bernard named after another character that watches & deals with problematic A.I./androids, said agent works in a professional capacity with Peggy, romantically asking after her, where later she ends up working with The Watcher, whose actor played the namesake of the agent inquiring after Peggy, to deal with problematic A.I./androids.
    And that''s just one of the many great references the writers/showrunners/creators have added, they get to have so much playful fun here and I'm enjoying every splendid second, as you appear to be doing so far.

    What if is all hypothetical in on reality and real in another. There are a ton of them out there and even more in the comics which is why each reality has a number. Only a few rare times are there beings that need no reality number. These are beings that span the multiverse itself. These shows are to introduce you to some of these beings and how they affect the multiverse. The watchers for example are merely being meant to watch and chronicle everything. Another being is one you met in the loki series at the end. Now you are to some extent caught up and ready for the next slate of movies and shows where more beings of this type are introduced.

    Ultron's status as a big bad for this season never has sat right with me, because it's been established (mainly in the comics, but also in the MCU with Loki--though contradicted with Endgame) that the infinity Stones don't work outside their own universe. In fact, there's a classic shot from one of the times DC and Marvel crossed over, in the series JLA/Avengers, where we see DC's big bad Darkseid (who's an evil god, more powerful than Superman, and who Thanos is based on) has the Infinity Gauntlet along with all the Infinity Gems. He doesn't use them, though, because they're in the DC universe at this point, and there's no power in them. And, while the Infinity Stones don't operate the same as the Infinity Gems, they're still the same concept except tweaked for the movies (but hey, at least they didn't get the downgrade that happened when the all-powerful Cosmic Cube became the tesseract). The reason this can be annoying is that every element or device needs rules set down as to how it works, rules that stay consistent, and the Infinity Stones don't really have that, despite them being part of so much by now that could have established them. Show's still fun, but that element takes me out of the ending threat. But I nitpick and most people probably don't care, so they have it better than me.
    As with every video of yours, I recommend the movie Imagine Me & You, as well as Zsazsa Zaturnnah.

      You're the second person I've seen that has said Endgame breaks the 'Don't function in another universe' rule. I'm not seeing how. The stones they collected in Endgame were from the same MCU (idk what number they gave it) that we all know and love, just from different points in the past. The stones were then returned to the moment after they were taken to prevent the branching timeline from forming (as The Ancient One and Banner's astral form discussed). That's my take, although I'm more than willing to entertain other theories.

      @@bigshow771 It's established that they went to other timelines/universes most evidently by the fact the Thanos battle happens. Killing that Thanos made sure that his timeline can't be theirs, that they can't just plunk him back where he came from and not have a branch (and even if they did, they would have still had him with a new priority to kill all life). Granted, that movie itself also contradicts this by Old Man Steve, so things are all wonky.

    • @Rhodair
      @Rhodair Před měsícem +3

      @@bigshow771 Basically _every single time_ something/someone time travels, it creates another universe. That's where stuff like Back to the Future play it loose for the sake of story telling.. changes made with time travel don't automatically get flattened into 1 timeline. It's also why some criticize the Old Man Steve ending because he should be in a different dimension than MCU's Earth-199999. Or perhaps the original Steve _did_ stay in the other dimension/timeline and who we're seeing at end of _Endgame_ is another universe's Steve who did similar stuff and retired in ours just as our -199999 Steve retired elsewhere.

    What if is just supposed to be fun takes on alternate universes with different outcomes. That's what made the comic book so fun. So watch, enjoy, its not necessarily stories that need to be remembered for future movies.

    Hey Ashleigh, nice reaction. Always fun seeing Howard The Duck, his own film back in 1986 was a flop. Guardians of the Universe indeed. Can't wait for Multiverse of Madness. Btw, UltroVision was a fantastic nemesis. The Multiverse is awesome, I just started reading a Marvel graphic novel involving the Thunderbolts: America Chavez, Gutsen Glory, Hawkeye, Power Man, Spectrum, and Persuasion. Monica Rambeau is also involved along with Abomination, Taskmaster, and Luke Cage, who became mayor after the Kingpin Wilson Fisk. There are two venom films as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special.

    FYI, this first season of "What If...?" was going to be 10 episodes long, but it still suffered from the effects of the pandemic and it got set to 9 episodes. Gamora came from that 10th episode that became part of Season 2; that is why there is no "context" as to where she came from and why she got selected to be in The Watcher's Guardians. On another note, are you watching Marvel's Eternals (movie) next, then Hawkeye (series)? 🙏
