  • The history behind the Sabaton song we just covered The Last Stand. The video goes into the geopolitics of the region at the time that led to the eventual sack of Rome and subsequent belittling of the pope.

I actually thought this song was about the crusades, long ago. Later my son told me "what? no its not about the crusades, its about the sacking of Rome in the 1500´s". I emidiately checked out the history of this song and i like it even more now. You said that Per seems like sutch a cool guy and i agree (actually think i saw him one time at the supermarket where i live) but i have to say all of the members of Sabaton are so cool and seems super nice. Awesome reaction mr Texan, ty

For all the tales of the glory that comes with war, sometimes we forget the absolute horrific and tragic fate of the civilians who were caught in the crossfire. An important perspective we should not forget when discussing any of the many conflicts that has occurred throughout human history.

WW1 is always a stark reminder for me. For some reason the civilian treatment in ancient and premodern warfare is easy to overlook. Maybe because of just how brutal everything was in those time periods that more brutality sort of runs together. But in WW1 the refugees and civilians leaving towns, not being able to feed children, no shelter from the elements in winter, and obviously their deaths by the hands of soldiers puts a different sort of reality on it to me. Maybe it’s because it’s so recent and as much as time has changed things it seems to have not changed much at all in some respects.
But again, and I know I’ve said this before but war brings out the absolute best and worst in people, and the treatment of civilians is no different.

This video just strengthened my case that it would very interesting to see you react to one of the Sabaton songs on the Thirty Years War! Great content, glad I discovered your channel.

I will definitely be going through some of them. I kind of just find out as I go what historical topics they cover, and that’s why I was pleasantly surprised when I heard them reference an album over the time period.
      I appreciate the support!

@@rayceofhistory Cool. The album in question is written with dual lyrics in English and Swedish and many of the songs are of different perspectives depending on which language it is. "A Lifetime at War" is a good example of that and there is a live performance of the Swedish version were you can get subtitles in English if you are interested in comparing both perspectives.

Yes, soon. I’ve gotten into a little bit of a trance with Sabaton, I’ve never really seen or heard anything like what they do before. But I should be putting out the next one soon.
