  • In this video I explain the 5 things I wish I had known before arriving at Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University (#XJTLU) to #StudyAbroad for half a year!!     hiya! Thank you for this, its really helpful :) I'm a Liverpool student going to XJTLU in September and I think since they changed the requirements to go (now 3rd year students can go too) there's a few more of us going next year...maybe ~170 students? So I wonder if there'll be a notable difference. Either way, its super interesting to hear your insight!

    Hi Isabelle, thanks for making such a informative video to share your experiences in XJTLU. I'm coming there in November (hopefully November, it all depends on the incredibly protracted and labyrinthine visa process) to teach English in the uni. I'm feeling totally unprepared as I don't know where I'll be living or whom I'll be teaching and I can't speak any Chinese! I know our experiences will be a bit different as I'm not coming as a student, but I'm sure a lot of these tips are still going to be really helpful to my life

      Good luck with your visa! Can I ask how you are going to teach English without speaking any Chinese? I can image it could be difficult for the students to follow your classes 🤔

      @@IsabelleMuzerie I'll be teaching EAP in XJTLU - English and academic skills to support international students on English-language degree programmes. So my students won't necessarily all be Chinese but, as per your experience in classes, most probably will be

    Hello there! I'm planning to study at the university for my bachelor degree in September this year and i also agree that the accommodation information they provide to us is far too vague. Actually, i went to Suzhou a few days ago and i was utterly shocked to see how narrow the room was😅. I'm definitely planning to try and find an appartment outside or i will be in for some serious depression in the long run.

    I am wondering if you are not allowed to cook or dont have kitchen in dorms how to manage then?
    Moreover, is 5k RBM is enough to manage living including accommodation, I really am worried about this.

    So should i take a course and then apply to the university in Chinese?
    or should i apply to the university that teach in english but i attended a course at the same time ?

    I heard Nottingham University Ningbo campus, which is very close to Suzhou, has more international students than XJTLU.

      The 12 hours a week was enough. I learned so much more than I expected to! Also, if you try to use what you learned in the class in real life you will learn really fast! In my accommodation video I explain the costs of the accommodations in Suzhou! :)

    Dear Isabelle Muzerie
    I am planning to study Business Analytics in XJTLU. Do know how is the course. Moreover in your video you told that there are numerous universities in SIP. How big in terms of area is XJTLU and how different is the university from western universities. Do you recommend the university for others to study. How good are the administration and the people.

      Hi! Sorry, I am not familiar with the course you want to study. XJTLU is the biggest university in SIP in terms of area. I feel like XJTLU is also the most international university there. I do recommend the university! I had a great time there myself :D The people in the international students office are kind and helpful. Personally I had no issues with the administration there.

      Literally nothing. There are about a hundred clubs available, but there are all from Chinese students and its is pretty discouraging to join when no one wants to speak English even just a little bit.

      The students there are very friendly! All the students in the Chinese class will be foreigners in the same situation as you, this often makes it easier to make friends. Personally, I loved Suzhou! If I were to go back to continue learning Chinese I will go to Suzhou again.

      I found it very easy to make friends. Especially in the Chinese language classes since all students there are international students. Also, the student dorms you will stay in are filled with international students! I don't know anything about nottingham ningbo so I cannot make that recommendation for you. Hope this helps!

      @@cedric24x No, in the place where I stayed, you do not have a kitchen or a living room. Not even a shared or common one. In fact, you're not even allowed to cook there.

      Isabelle Muzerie Were all the professors fluent in English? Did they have strong accents? Cuz I heard that not all of the professors in China can speak English fluently.       I don't really think there's a medical college in XJTLU, There‘s a public health program but as far as I know, it's more close to the biology department

      @@Gu66y453 Manageable. You need your transcript, a minimum of 3.0 GPA, and a personal statement. Plus your official examination certificate of your country. Everything is done online. You can contact then via email for more enquiries it differs per country. They reply to you within 15 days.
