I got the outdoor mounting kit for them and they were easy to install. Once you download the app, it walks you through the very easy set up. The clarity, and range is awesome. I am thinking seriously about adding another camera or two to my 3 camera system. The price is lower than a lot of comparable systems.
Mr. Hawk, you did well. You imparted a lot of good information and you did it in a clear and concise way. You made it easy for the non-techie to understand. You gave pluses and minuses. Because of your review, i am sending several of these to my brother to strategically place around our Mom's home, just in case. Well done, thank you.
Yi seems to be killing it lately. Action cam. Home cam. New 4k m43 cam. Covering all bases with companion apps to boot.

Hello,
With my yi 1 I opened it up (4 screws) and disconnected the IR so it can be put next to a window.
Then mounted an external IR outside.
Given the picture you sent it looks likely that could be done with this not too difficult :)

I have 6 Yi Home 1 at home. For the price they well really really good. Way better than the EXPENSIVE Logitech Alert crap I had. Now that Nest came out with an outdoor camera, Yi will follow soon.
GoldenPimp 3 months later and we still dreaming lol they have a case for the best that fits the to if you choose to set it outdoor. it's in Amazon for 7$

Suggestion: To show field of view better: Put some lines on the ground at 90 degrees, 60 degrees, 30 degrees etc then put the camera at the point where the lines come together. Then to show pincushion and barrel distortion while still illustrating field of view, pick the camera up to 6ft or so above where the lines come together and then tilt the camera up and down so it sweeps over the lines .
I would love it if this camera and the Yi app worked with other services such as IFTTT or Wink!!!! Then it would be a best Nest Cam alternative.
So if I delete the old videos off the app , are they still on the sd card? Or if they get automatically deleted off the app with new videos, Will they still be on the sd card?
Nice review. Did you have to do anything to your home router like changing port forwarding, to access the camera from outside your home?
how is the lag time to use it live streaming to the phone not recording just directly monitoring the camera while at home. Say camera is downstairs and you are watching your phone upstairs in a room? What is the lag time? a second or 1/2 second or really long like a minute or 20 seconds?
How is the quality of the incoming mic audio for your unit? When I access my Yi Home Camera 2 through the Yi Home app on my smartphone and attempt to listen to the audio it sounds distorted and garbled.
They need to bring a weather proof / resistant version out along with more mounting options and even a robotic form factor option.
I just the YI Home Camera, I connected it to my home wi-fi, but when I leave the house, it disconnected. How do I watch the live stream from my job, to see what is going on in my home?

Wow this Yi Home seems to have a lot to it! I've never been into Home security and stuff like that but with the increase of thefts in the area I thought about installing one/two external cameras just to be safe. I already have the Xiaomi Yi, European version with the latest firmware, and despite the lack of stabilization(which I knew about anyway) I absolutely love it!
I might give this a try, they're cheap as usual and seem to work great :) can you hook these with smart home services and stuff like that?

In India it is compatible with 32 GB card. How much time it will store the video.. One day, two days? If connected to MI cloud.. How much data Internet it will use?

Mine works fine but how do i get it to work on mobile data to watch away from home. Works fine with wifi on phone but no to mobile data

Me too. Currently dealing with hardware/software issues. Financially obstructed from fixing it faster. Hopefully everything will start to trickle out but Oct 31st.

Mark, a stupid question. For alerts to be working, the Yi Home needs to be in a wifi zone (let's say this way), right?
Correct, it sends the message via wifi to their app server. Then the app server sends a notification to your app on the phone.
can you turn off the leds
Can "crying baby" detect and alert me if my dog will bark? Also, can the detection region be dragged as wide as the whole length of the view field? Thanks
Yes and yes. I actually use the Dog alert scenario in this video. Had a dog in distress, camera alerted me, was able to come home and stop a faulty fire alarm beeping.

Yi home cameras are not compatible with newer Iphone's that use 5 GHZ wifi. The yi home app uses wifi to get the QR code to connect the phone to the camera.
So in order to get the free camera you had to sign a contract? Is that the case for every camera you review and don't buy yourself?
Nothing signed. Just an email asking if I was interested in being sent a review unit of the Yi 2. Wasn't until it showed up that I realized the Yi 2 was their home security camera. This was back in May, a month or 2 before the Yi 4K was announced.

Waiting for Hero 5 review
Computer issues. Having a hard time this year with things working reliably. Software/Hardeare I often come to rely on is slowly killing me. I do have all of them though. Been filming with them for weeks.

Just had to be there for a personal event in the family, deal with a gigantic forest fire, wait a month for our HVAC replacement in roughly 105+ heat, and solve some memory leak issues in Premiere. ;) very far behind though.
