  • Hi, I set out to find a few spots in some creeks that's suitable for using my sluice box, An stumble across multiple 100-plus year old abandoned gold mines in the north of Tasmania Australia that was dug in the late 1800's to early 1900's

awsome mate. i'm in rosebery and found an old map of pre 1900 gold mines ...theres one on a property 200 meters from me...been thinking about tunnelling in my backyard , got that quarts everywhere at my place. The bushfires sure make it easier to spot things.

Gold is where you find it they say. If you see highly mineralised quarts, it very well may be worth doing a crush in a dolley pot an pan to see what you just might have laying around you. Good luck if you do.

We only had to dig 10cm in the school yard at st joeys to find quartz.

The ones that cut across the hill are costeens. You sample along the cutting and when you get colour you chas it up.

The question you have to ask is why it stopped , did the gold run out , or did the gold price drop . which leads to the next question , is there still gold there

The trenches are there because they were looking for quartz veins
