Anyone know why this happens???
No
I think its something with the charge shotgun and it actually deals 147 and 0.5 damage (I saw a comment about this somewhere else)
The charge shotgun does damage in decimals, it actually did 146.7 (I think thats the number) in the clip
I havenât the foggiest đđđđ
Yeah like when you get killed by someone, you can see a number with a comma. And this damage is a comma number (if that is a thing, I am not from a english speaking country because of that it could sound weird) and the enemy has health with 0.51 or above.
This is a common trick in game design, itâs a grace thing. Itâs designed to prioritize that last bit of health more than any other piece so they have a chance to clutch it.
And I thought I was mad lucky on 1hp đ

HP is a float value (a number with decimals)
Guns do float damage (ex. 20.3 dmg)
Float values are truncated to integers (whole numbers) in UI to look cleaner in games.
Therefore, the enemy likely has 0.1-0.9 HP in this situation, but UI would prefer to display 1.

@@viridian1263
The actual damage dealt is unchanged; it's just displayed as a whole number.
no i think the charge shotgun does 146.anything about 5 damage and when displaying the UI or the damage amount it shows 147 because it is probably rounded up in the UI script but in the charge shotgun script it isnt rounded up and the damage done is 146, but then the other players health drops tp 53 which is 200 - 147so the game UI considers that fine but when you do 20 damage in the end the game is like oh you still have 0.something lesser than 5 health so since its not zero the UI shows it as 1. Well thats my explanation to it.
@@gibbonbasher8171 normally it should be because otherwise the player should know if damage done is 25.5 or not i think they just forgot to round off when damaging but did round of universally in the one code used to display damage

Well, I don't mean to rain on your parade but, first off, it's definitely not a method, as Fortnite is coded in C++ and functions that don't belong to a class exist in that language, so in any math library it would simply be floor(). Probably a regular feature to make people survive 1 shots or simply to make it possible to drag on fights. So, for instance, say the other person gave you 3 shots equal to 200 HP points, you would still survive to give that last leg to make an impossible comeback and fight back or make it less frustrating against really high damage situations.
It is similar to what they are making in Overwatch by disabling one shots and situations where you give lots of damage and the person survives with 2 hp, which by all accounts is impossible.

Actually, their engine uses both integers and floats(decimals), so the charge shotgun has a float system, and the game actually rounds that number up to 147, instead of its original number, so technically let's say it's 146.7+33+20 would actually equal 199.7, so technically that person has 0.3 health left, and it rounds it to 1. So it does make sense in a way, but I do see your pov. That's how it works
I know what you're saying, makes sense, but it's probably something like 147.1 to 147. 5 because only 0.5 and higher can be round up to 1

Itâs called rounding but shouldnât be. Programmers use two functions, called floor and ceil. If you use the floor function on 146.5 it brings it down to 146, and if you use the ceil function it brings it up to 147. Thatâs whatâs being done here. The actual value of the decimal is disregarded.
Itâs in decimal value cause of the charge shotgun. Like before you was able to see the enemy health in decimal. Also the lever shotgun for example shoots the decimal value
In other words, some guns (such as the charge shotgun itself) does NOT shoot in whole numbers. For instance, as I mentioned before, the lever shotgun does a 93.6 damage output.
In addition, about 5 seasons ago (I am not 100% sure when it was) you were able to see the enemy players health in decimal value. This demonstrates how some guns do NOT shoot in whole numbers.
Moreover, back to the video, the charge shotgun did a certain amount of damage along with some decimal value. This results in the player, indeed, survivng the attack.
To conclude, this demonstrates how the shotgun did a DECIMAL damage output and NOT a whole number output in which it resulting the player surviving.
