I just rebuilt one a few months ago. I have a 15-91 and 66 (and a few other models) but the sound and the excellent stitching one this 201 is my favorite. I also sew on a featherweight. Gotta love the old Singers. Thanks for sharing.

You’re welcome. I really enjoy the old masterpieces. I also love finding them a new home with an enthusiastic buyer who knows how awesome they are. 😎👍

I love the 201 so much that I have two. A potted motor and a hand crank. And one day I would love to find the 1200 with the knee lift. It’s the exact same machine. That would be fabulous with a servo motor. A girl can dream 😍 thanks for another great video and you did get me with that click bate. 😁

Nice video!! I picked up a nicely cared for 201-2 and can't believe the quality compared to new machines. It is now my favorite machine for straight stitching. I now use my other machines for specialty stitches, embroidery and industrial/heavy duty applications. I just used the 201 to make an entire quilt except for a few embroidery touches. I didn't have a single issue with thread tangling or fabric jamming into the feed dogs and it went through all 3 layers with ease. I use a large thread cone on a stand next to the machine to reduce the amount of times I need to thread the needle.

Once you’ve experienced the the legendary precision and excellence of this machine, all the others seem clunky and inferior.
The full rotary movement, with its exacting tolerances and high quality components, make for a smooth and quiet process with top notch stitching as a result.
Thanks for your kind remarks and thanks for watching.😎👍

There simply IS NO BETTER MACHINE on this earth. Superb straight stitches, reverse stitches match the length of forward stitches. Known as the dressmaker's machine. So excellent, Rolls-Royce used them in their upholstery department. If anyone has any doubts, spend 5 minutes with one.

People call me often with “an old black Singer” for sale. My first question if they can’t send a pic is, “Does it have a white on/off switch?”
If the answer is yes, I’m on my way with lights and siren. 😎👍

I totally agree! My 201 treadle has made many quilts, such a joy to sew on. I do have an electric one but enjoy my treadle.

No question that the 201 are beautifully made machines. I was so impressed with the first one I got that I went and found a couple more. I do question your identification method, however. None of mine have potted motors, so there's no white toggle switch. The potted motors are more common in the U.S., but the external belted motor is by far the most common version here in Canada. A better way to identify a 201 is the big round plate around the vertical stitch length lever, and the tension adjuster on the front. The big round plate is also seen on the newer Singer 15, but the Singer 15 has the tension assembly at the left end, not the front. That's a more reliable method for identification. So there, you've been told! 😁

It’s a very special machine that was made when Singer was “as good as it gets”.
It’s legendary for a reason. Good stuff.

@@cherylmangum9598 i will do that next time a get a chance.
The obvious question is, why do you think yours is “out of time”.
They’re not known to get out of time. (Like absolutely never)
About the only time I’ve seen one that’s truly “out of time”, is when someone disturbed the timing with tools.
It’s so rare that you might get your picture on a sewing magazine cover.
I would check the Big Three:
      1)the threading
      2)the thread
      3)and the needle.
Flat side to the left, thread it from right to left.
      Use dual duty/all purpose thread
      Good luck 🍀👍🏼

Hi I was given a treadle machine today, I've wanted one for years. It looks complete but I'm not the expert. I would like to get paperwork on it, and be able to use it. I have pictures but not sure how to get them to you. I watch CZcams videos but that's it. It's black and has the gold leafing and says Honeymoon special. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Tonja

Randy, I've heard you mention in other vids about the horrors/mishaps of shipping sewing machines.
The examples you gave have not be lost with me.
In my effort to stow away my Singer 603 and all the accessory boxes that came originally with it, I found a Rubbermaid Ice Cooler that the machine and all the accessory boxes and foot pedal all fit nicely in.
Using a liberal amount of bubble wrap, and/or other means of dunnage to protect the machine, I would use a cooler to ship a machine instead of a cardboard box.
The cooler was $6 @ Goodwill. A new machine tote is $50,,, and no room for the accessories.

@@robotbuster1487 thanks. That’s good info for some who wants to ship a sewing machine.
Sounds like it would be much better than a standard cardboard box.
