    these guys will lay it out hard and if the skip is right, 100+ miles hearing them.

      I’ve worked 12,000 miles on 10 meters with 5 watts and a magnetic whip. Y’all are doing it way wrong.

      @@rabbit6872 Occasionally, similar occurrences take place on the 11-meter band, where people communicate across the country. While not consistent, I've experienced variations with my HF rigs. It's a bit distinct, but the underlying concept remains. Under favorable conditions, you can establish contacts spanning across the country or even the world. While not a frequent event, it does happen.

    When skip conditions are at the bottom of the solar cycle one needs to 'bolster' output to reach the other side of town. (Just saying)

      Isn't ham the same way?

      @la7dfa Před rokem

      @@electromechanicalstuff2602 HAMs have a lot of bands with different properties. Some even work best during solar minimum.
      And we can cover most distances by swapping between bands. On higher HF bands like 10m & 12m, you need more sunspots to get great performance all year.

    • @electromechanicalstuff2602
      @electromechanicalstuff2602 Před rokem

      @@la7dfa how can both 10 and 12 meter be Higher then 11 meter? Ones higher ones lower. Don't forget ham 3 is 1500 Watts average on a bird. I know hams who push more than that to talk. But yes I agree. It's best to have multiple bands, antenna tuner, baluns, and directional antenna to talk further.

      @@electromechanicalstuff2602 most hams don't operate full legal limit. a vast majority of us have 100W stations and QRP stations but that's about it. The black magic is the radio propagation (and antennas), which you don't really get to play much with when you have one band, channelized. not that anything's wrong with CB, different strokes for different folks. but that's the thing I like about amateur radio, you get to play with radio science in weird ways on a fair size of spectrum.

    Pretty cool , good idea but not publicly. Would be real bad if one of those upset bored people make a call and FCC walks away with it all.
