Omg, I can't believe it! Šarplaninci are "native" to my country, and the Balkans in general. They are called by the Šar Planina (Planina means Mountain, Planinac means like a Mountain-person). They are a common sight around here, very good shepherd dogs!

Romeo certainly was a gentle giant, and a gentleman as well. It must have been a pleasure to hang out with him once he got outside. He really looked as though he was enjoying your back yard.

If I would walk down the street and see this face...I would immediately loose speech, so I couldn't even ask the owner if it was okay if I touch him.
I would talk silently to him and him alone. Like reaching out my hand for him to sniff and duck a bit (just a bit).
Finding my speech again, I would ask the owner if I could come by for a play date and to comb his fur😂

I had the pleasure of meeting TWO of these lovely dogs on a clients property and they are absolutely lovely, beautiful and kind dogs with a definite undertone of " this is my house and MY family" Very impressive breed!

What a well-behaved dog. The best behaved dogs always seem to have a job to do.
They don't have time for any nonsense, they have jobs to get back to! 😊
Working breeds who have a daily job are the most mellow, happy dogs.
A shepherd doesn't necessarily need a flock to tend, but it does need a job!
A lot of work went into socializing this dog. They are very independent and stubborn in nature.
I absolutely LOVE the fact you actually used Š (instead of Sh) when you wrote the name and on top of that had a perfect pronunciation of Šarplaninac. :D I live in Balkans (more precisely Bosnia) and relatively close to the region the breed originates from, so it's not unusual to see these guys around here.

We had one when I was young. Vlad. He was the twin I never had, I grew up alongside him and when my sister was born, he was always so gentle with her. Truly a shepherd's dog. I can't watch the video, I still miss him too much to be able to look at the magnificent dog you've groomed, but thank you for bringing light to a breed that while demanding, brought one of the best boys to Earth.
A Sarplaninac was the first dog I had, growing up in Belgrade! We grew up together, taking the same calcium supplements and enjoying our romps on the banks of the Danube. They're an amazing, highly intelligent, intuitive, utterly loyal breed.

Romeo is amazing! His owners did such a good job, he's a sweetheart among humans. Sure he's fearsome when he has to his job but he really seems to know the difference.
Romeo's a gentleman of a dog! He's so patient when being washed, blow-dried, brushed, and having his nails trimmed. 😁❤️🐶

Working dogs, including most sporting dogs such as Labs and Goldens, are the only dogs to have. No complaining, no yapping, no cuff-biting, never in a bad mood, great family dog (particularly for children), etc. People who have these breeds are real dog people. I'm just a little biased, of course. This is a beautiful animal, well-loved and a bit spoiled, I'm sure. :-)
Great dog! He does look a lot like Caucasian shepherd! His owners did a great job of socialising a herd dog to be so tolerant with strangers!
A lot of these dogs are just the regional variant of the same type. Same as all the big white lgds are closely related

They most certainly are not just variants. They are a distinct breed but used for the same purpose
@@kria9119 but come from the same foundation stock, they've been made into separate breeds now but the white lgds for example, the sheep hardly stuck to national boundaries
Imagine as a full grown man if your job was to wash and groom full grown black bears. From a size standpoint that's basically what this little lady is doing. She got balls of steel.
It’s way more impressive when she does dogs this size that are actually a risk to her safety. She’s incredible!

YEEEEEYYYY, finally, Šarac...One of most favorite breeds in Balkan peninsula, or region. They are real angels, soft and gentle, but even with no training, they can instantly become your worst nightmare if you think of harming his flock, aka family. I have one story from my family. My fathers second wife, aka stepmom, had one. And she and her late husband went to the city one day. When they came home, they found open doors to the house, and burglar pinned to the wall, with Šaronja standing on her back feet, targeting his throat. Only when they called police, and calmed her down, she let her guard down. So, be nice to them, and they'll be nice to you.
There are so many more breeds from ex Yougoslavia region, or Balkans if you will. You had croatian shepperd, Šarplaninac, Dalmatian...if would be awesome if there were even more, like tornjak, various versions of herddog (goniči, like istrian, posavski...)
And kraški ovčar:) I must add the one and only Slovenian breed:)

I heard of the one I owned and knew I needed one, we planned to have land but also have other dogs, and children come over often. Also being a dog trainer it was suchh an amazing experience to own such an amazing dog with such a good well rounded temperament. If given the opportunity in the future and with the right lifestyle I 100% want another sarp. I love the stubborness at times and the immense patience and love that they have.

@InTimeTraveller I don't know, corgi's are high up there next to the German sheperds and huskies. They are always wildin', all dramatic and difficult. I can't blame her for not grooming corgi's too often (though she has 2 or 3 corgi videos to my knowledge). Not sure if there's more in her videos 3 or 4+ years back though.
This breed hails from my country. They are incredible but, increasingly protective. The name of the breed was no said correctly… but I praise this girl for the amount of time and care she took!!!!
Romeo is such a sweet gentle giant, those paws were huge almost like a bear paw. Beautiful groom so handsome. ♥️🐾✂️
I lost it at the lick of approval. He's a perfect angel and a gentleman. I'm glad he gets to live somewhere he can exercise those big bones (and his big shepherd brain!), he looks very healthy and handsome.

We were lucky that Bucko - Šarplaninac was living with us for 9 years.
He was not our dog. He was member of our family.
This is dog for kind people with strong mentality. This dog will not accept you and will not listen to you just because you feed him. This is by far the most intelligent dog I have ever seen.
Bucko attacked snake that was approaching my kids in backyard. He gets bitten and died 2 days after.

Knowing this breed and a similar one (Tornjak), since we see quite a lot of them in Croatia and Bosnia, I’m amazed he trusted you so much. Owners did an amazing job raising him, usually they really don’t like and don’t trust strangers. They’re loyal to their families and adore kids, but I wouldn’t want to be near one I haven’t met before.
Oh my God I grew up with one of these! His name was Urban, and he guarded the village my mom was from! He is one of the reasons I love dogs so much, because he has fought wolves several times; but the moment he would see us kids, he would lie down like a giant rug and let us climb all over him. They are awesome dogs, although they are more high maintenance than people would think and honestly, not city dogs at all.
I am always so happy to see a working dog that gets to do the work that they love and were bred for.

They are the dogs from my father's homeland. They are the best! Fluffy, funny, endlessly friendly with their family and fierce protectors at the same time. They adore children too. Beautiful dogs.

My heart beats for the livestock guarding dogs - our canine family member is a 9 year old Kuvasz-mix girl (besides Kuvasz we don't know what's in the mix), and she is such a joy.

Seems to have the temperament of a Bernese but calmer. He was probably worried what was going on at the farm (his job) and uncomfortable being indoors. You could almost see the devotion in his face. Hanging out with this guy would be a joy.
I have four Great Pyrenees so I am used to big dogs. I used to dog sit a pair of Sarplaninacs and they were massive…and the sweetest babies.

I wish I had a girl like this in my life. I'm not a simp, so don't view the comment like I'm hitting on her. She just seems like a kind soul. But then again, who the hell knows. I've only seen her in a few videos, she could end up being a horrible monster off camera. Idk I guess I just see alot of my aunt in her. She passed away back in 2012. She was one of the most kind and amazing people in the world. Only had half a lung from a autoimmune disease yet she worked full time and always had time to do fun stuff with my sister and I. She loved animals and treated her lab mix like her child. When the dog was on his last day she spent the evening cooking stuff for her. She wanted to make sure the dog had the best day she could before she passed. Even though she worked full time as a hair dresser and had tons of doctors appointment she still found time to volunteer at the local animal shelter. She was a truly good person, I sometimes question God, why take such a selfless, kind person so early. But then I realised that she was supposed to die when she was a kid. The fact that she lived to 40 is a blessing. I have my own stupid health issues and I honestly don't know how she was always so happy and positive after the world threw her nothing bit tragedy after tragedy. I just stay away from dating because I'm a time bomb, nobody wants any of that. It isn't self-loathing, I just don't think it is fair to involve anybody in my mess. What the timer runs out I want to be alone. With a cigarette and the hymns my mother and father played for me when I was young and couldn't sleep. No way in hell I will allow my self to be brain dead and a burden. I don't even know why I wrote this. Probably on deaf ears anyway. Guess that's one problem about isolation, you have no one to speak to when you mind starts digging up things you wish stayed burried. Even though life is bad now I thank God for all the joy I felt when I was young. Hopefully I can hold onto those memories for as long as possible before my brain becomes a potato.

I've actually seen an lgd get in with young guinea pigs. This huge fluffball curled around the babies, god help anyone who hurt them. They'll guard anything they've been taught is their family

Most amazing breed ever! We were so lucky to find our girl, Sophie as a rescue dog. She was also lucky to come to live out in the country with only us to guard from the coyotes. The paw shake is Sophie's only trick--working dogs do not generally see the merit of silly tricks! Love this!

Im in love. Reminds me so much of our Newfie that passed a few years ago. He loved going to our groomer and would basically take a nap when she worked on him. And would roll over when asked. And give her slobbery kisses through the whole grooming. Love Romeo.❤❤❤

this one is really a good boy! but, they are anything but mellow, in general, trust me:) if you see them at their working place(a farm, a yard) they will instantly command respect and very soon after that , fear! they are serious dogs. my first association when I think of Sarplaninac is respect and fear! I live in their country of origin so I met them thruoghout my life all the times ...
@@PretendeP I believe it. Most livestock guardian breeds are to one extent or another. They demand respect and boy am I glad that he's got an owner that seems to know how to socialize him. He's so great with Vanessa. I would not want to cross one of these big fluffs!
