Best lesson ever. . SHOOT FOR MOST SUSTAIN AND MOST TONE! MUFFLING just KILLS a drum! I ALWAYS ALWAYS TUNE to the lowest possible tension. TOP AND BOTTOM heads vibrate together . .MASSIVE BOOM!
The kit is a Gretsch renown series I own one and use a tunebot. They sound fantastic and if you experiment with different settings you can save them for future reference. In my opinion this tool takes out all the guess work and makes most drum tuning videos obsolete! Don't believe me? Just try one for yourself 😉
So...everytime you need to change the head...the GTS has to come completely off,and it can be very tricky trying to get the tension rod back in through the system.
That cracking sound is NOT glue cracking. Also, you shouldn't be pressing down on the head with the drum on a hard surface either. That causes the hoop that is on the other side (table side) to press "up", causing the opposite head to receive more tension.
Always learning new things from Gibraltar...keep it up, Brent! \m/
"I'm not a tapping the lugs kind of guy."
*Proceeds to tune all heads by tapping the head at the lugs*
"to get them exactly even" Context.
I have a Satin White Gretsch Renown (13, 16, 24). Would love to get my hands on that 10 & 12 here. Thanks for the great vid. Very helpful.
True about the Evans heads dying if you crunch on them with your palm while tuning. I laughed out loud when John said that!
Dude, blue balls. You can't just tune them, and not let us hear! Jeez!
agreed. huge ear boner tease.
koolBOY8323 Soryy, Part 2 is up. 👍

Thanks for posting this, it had some great tips I will now use. I've been playing for 6 year, still not the greatest at tuning.
I'm with you it's all your own and what you feel when it comes to tuning...
Im gonna try this way of tuning tomorrow! thanks!

Any recommendation for buzz on the snare when hitting a Tom. Is it because the frequency of the Tom is causing the snare to vibrate . ? Any ideas ?
FYI, that cracking sound is NOT the sound of glue breaking. It's the sound of the mylar forming to the bearing edge.

Wait... I wanted to hear them!! Lol
Part 2 is up.

Where is part 2?
I pitted my snare head really bad and I had to wait a couple weeks until I got a new one. I took it off and it was so close to busting
Was this video how to tune drums, or how to change drum heads.... I'm confused.
Hi! what model of gretsch drums are you using? Tia.
He looks like Maynard.
Gretsch do die cast hoops for all their drums?
Tomas L from my understanding, only the USA custom series now

professional tuner, and you give him 5 screw drums???
Gretsch uses 5 screws, now!
First video I've seen where an instrument is tuned but not played at all...weird.
Did I miss something? I didn't see any technique.
Nice way to tune, but ill stick to using John Good's way.
hey Bret I have a new faster way to tune for live and recording on just about every kit or there
May be his mouth runs and take kilometres and go for a run
Never got to hear the damn drums.
i see you hiding that dw tom in the back at 7:45 START USING SOME DW DRUMS
+dillon b. Hi Dillon DW, Gretsch and Gibraltar are all part of the same family. Its all love. 😃

Been watching 7 minutes so far and haven't seen anything new or worth my time. Useless video.
No method at all. Just random turning.
