Valeu cara!!!!

    Just came up with a method that's not as "destructive" as color range if anyone's interested.
    - Convert the layer for the satellite image into a smart object
    - Go to Filter > Camera Raw Filter
    - When the window opens, go to HSL adjustments > Saturation, and completely desaturate all color ranges except the 2 ranges of green
    Hope it will be helpful to someone

    I would suggest using vector paths, especially if you have to deal with smooth curves, like on highways for example. This option also gives you an opportunity to easily experiment with different lineweights, strokes and other brush settingss.

    Far easier to do all this in Illustrator. That way the lines remain clean and you can adjust thicknesses, colour, and things like dot pattern and fills.
    It remains resolution independent and you can also import into After Effects if you need animations.

    • @TryptychUK
      @TryptychUK Před 5 lety

      @Fancy Not at all.
      You just have to drop all the preconceptions you have with Photoshop and bitmaps.
      For general graphics work, it is far superior in many ways. Take time to learn it, they have many commonalties.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  Před 5 lety

      I feel that they are both different softwares for different tasks. But I also think that it is far easier to do in illustrator, specially the streets, regarding the strokes and widths.
      But when it comes the part where you need to swap the river color, select the greens, apply effect to individual pixels, Photoshoo is the tool that can perform these operations.
      You gotta choose a different mal style if you want to go with Illustrator. But at the end of the day, both softwares are different, one is not better than the other one, but there were made to deal with vector or pixels

    • @TryptychUK
      @TryptychUK Před 5 lety +1

      @@LearnUpstairs I disagree. I have done entire maps using Illustrator. There are brush techniques you can use to effect colour. Sure, it's not a photorealistic effect, but it all depends on the look you are after.
      On top of that, you can swap between the two as they both accept each others files.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  Před 5 lety +1

      Oh yes! Using both of them at the same is the best workflow. For personal projects I always use this process. The best of both worlds 😉
      Thanks for pointing it out! On the videos I usually try to find a middle ground and use a workflow that most people are used to. But I'm always open to the watchers opinions, cheers!

    • @TryptychUK
      @TryptychUK Před 5 lety +1

      @@LearnUpstairs I do think too many people automatically jump to Photoshop as a fix-all, (not that I am against it, i have been using it since version 2.0), but it is always good to know what options one has available, and Illustrator is just as powerful, but far less well known or understood. I am a motion graphics designer, so I need both, along with many other software applications, but they are always my go-to's.
