She really didn't want to hold him down anymore but in doing so she made him become unhinged. Now the cancer ultimately did kill her but negan was going to get her treatments for it and was stopped by a small gang in the woods that caused too much time to pass and Lucille just decided to end it

Realistically it'd also be very difficult. Aaron is an incredibly skilled fighter and larger and more muscular than Negan is. Aaron also has significantly more want to kill Negan where Negan would likely hesitate if he even had the chance. In the comics Negan is a powerhouse but in the show he's really nothing special, he fights Rick to a draw twice and loses BECAUSE of his emotional instability the third time.
Suddenly appearing walkers not withstanding, Aaron was itching for a reason to go at it with Negan. They wrote his character so interesting and he quickly became my favorite after Glenn “left”
