Gillan perform their first single off the 'Future Shock' album which went straight into the UK top 10 and became a classic GILLAN live track. The album peaked at #2 on the charts in 1981.
I loved going to see Gillan back in the day, what a line up! The day Gillan recorded this for TOTP they were playing Newcastle Mayfair that night and I was there, turned up late of course but a great gig all the same, happy days! R.I.P Bernie Torme
Someone's already said enough about Bernie, but let's all agree that Gillan rocks, wether he was with Deep Purple or no.I love all his music,so do many more! One love people xx
The dive bombing guitar here blew me away in 1981 (Yes, Eddie Van Halen and all that) but back then, this was unheard of for the average teen who'd grown up listening to the genteel tremolo bar action of one Hank Marvin of the Shadows! Bernie Torme - I've never heard ANYONE put him down!
My first gig as a teenage kid was Gillan the double trouble tour at the Leas Cliff Hall at Folkestone, Kent, great gig, great venue, I've seen some great bands there over the years at the Leas Cliff Hall. I bought this single when came out and I still have it, I had the Double trouble album to my Ex Mrs sold it with my large Hawkwind album collection, the spiteful cow, you live and learn, LOL!!!!! 👍✌️👊🌍.

+Steven Sedgwick I was at the motorhead gig as well, I remember the queue stretching off round the building and the sense of anticipation pre-gig. And the embroidery! I had sewn the motorhead iron dog in ten colours on the back of my cut-off denim. Leeds Queens hall was the other venue, saw so many "nwobhm" bands those years.

Imagine that you're in a band and you have a gig booked. Your guitarist turns up with a lightning bolt painted on his cheek, wearing an eye patch and an ammo belt like a sash........
Blackmore did a couple of good albums , as did Messrs Coverdale, Paice & Lord, but think the Gillan band was by far the best of the lot; very sad day when he sloped off to Sabbath.... As Tommy Vance used to say "The amazing driving GIllan" & what a tight band; really were.
it's funny that a lot of people liked it; I'm defo in the minority but - nah; & live he was a disaster! Gillan forgot most of sabs songs & couldn't see the cue cards thro the dry ice.... haha; but he still got on well enough to record more stuff with Iommi... It wasn't any big shock when he left Purple after all the friction with Blackmore, but it was like he'd crapped out on his old band mates when he joined sabs... .
Man that sux he forgot lyrics with sabboth. Iv'e never seen him live because i prefer only listening to the studio side of most musicians work, but i'm like you i hate he crapped on his own band because man what line-ups he had : Janick Gers, John McCoy, Bernie Torme & i love the stuff he did with Deep Purple too but like you said friction with Blackmore ( i think everybody had friction with Blackmore) hint hint is why i prefer studio releases & listening to them by myself or with a friend or two. But Gillan can hold his own vocally up beside the best of 'em.
& yet with Purp & his own bands he was brilliant. I remember as a wayward youngster my elderly dad telling me Gillan had joined Sabbath & I scoffed as could never imagine him doing it - "that would never work, ra ra ra". Well, we were kinda both right haha. A real shame. Never caught "Garth rocket" tho - erm, not even got round to checking them out - project for today! Cheers Bo!
Cheers Robert, yeah i forgot to mention to you before why i liked Gillan w/ sabboth ( everybody has their own unique story i guess ) & it was because i didn't start Heavy Metal rocking til i was in my early 20's which was around 82/83 & the 1st time i heard sabboth was on a heavy metal compilation tape called Masters of Metal( 83) with sabboth's "Trashed" song w/ Gillan on vocals & really began liking sabboth that way & was jamming on oz & at about that same time but had no idea of earlier sabboth with him in it but ended up liking all sabboth although i am NOT an ozzy fan by NO means it's Mr Jake E Lee that i like with the 2 lp's he did with ozz that were 2 me ozz's BEST work & his 2 BEST lp's. But yeah that compilation tape really started my collecting heavy metal groups because on there were Dokken (my favorite group) & Zebra, Krokus, Twisted Sister, Triumph, Y&T, Rainbow, Iron Maiden, Rush, Kiss & Van Halen.......yeah this compilation tape is what catapulted me into the heavy metal rocker & collector i am today.........Bo
