- Adam looks at a Japanese Maple (Acer) Cultivar called Arakawa which is found as a bonsai tree. We have a look at a nice example tree, while discussing why it is popular. We talk about the lovely craggy bark that it has, along with discussing some of the negative characteristics such as larger leaf size and upright growth habit. This affects how you prune and style the tree as a bonsai.
We use the word cultivar quite often in the video. In case you're wondering, a cultivar is a plant variety which has been produced by though selective breeding to have a desired characteristic. In this case, its the thick, woody bark on the trunk and older branches. These characteristics don't necessarily transfer to new plants through seeds. Due to this, cultivars are often propagated through cuttings, grafts and air-layerings.
The video was shot in April 2022 at All Thing Bonsai, Sheffield, Yorkshire, U.K.
Thanks for watching and please remember that we sell Japanese Maple bonsai trees and lots of other trees at www.allthingsbonsai.co.uk
Thank you for your sharing my friend👍👍👍
Thanks Sotar! We are new to YT but I am enjoying making the videos 🎬👍
Awesome video again mate 👍🏼
Thanks mate 👍
Great informative videos! Looking forward to more, longer and more in-depth videos from you guys in the future
Thanks Tablet! We’re new to doing YT videos at the moment but there will be more on the way 👍
It's great to see you on CZcams promoting your nursery. A big ey up from Donny just down the road. Arakawa don't tend to be apically strong I've found too and it's good to see the moss well clear of the bark. Cheers for the video, take care.
Thanks Paul 👍
lovely bark, very nice tree!
Thanks!
Beautiful tree. Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure. Thanks for watching
Absolutely spot on and I look forward to hearing more as you do them. I've just finished my last set of repots (53...) and can now enjoy the sun. Though I have had to spray all of my crab apples / apples this morning to try and remove the woolly aphids. They are a real issue with my apples every season!
Thanks Xavier! Same here, just about finished repotting now
😊
Its rude to ask but what did it sell for if you dont mind me asking? Great video. Cheers from Ojai California
Hi Jason. It a was a little over a 1000 dollars. Or enough to get a tank of fuel for my van these days 😂
