DeSantis vs. Disney: Florida governor strips Disney of self-governing status | LiveNOW from FOX

  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed a bill that gives him control of Walt Disney World’s self-governing district, punishing the company over its opposition to the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law.
The bill requires DeSantis, a Republican, to appoint a five-member board to oversee the government services that the Disney district provides in its sprawling theme park properties in Florida.
“Today the corporate kingdom finally comes to an end,” he said at a bill signing ceremony in Lake Buena Vista. “There’s a new sheriff in town, and accountability will be the order of the day.”

In many cases the local government can't meet the needs of the local business or institution for whatever reason. i.e. disney brings too many tourists to be handled by local tax payers, a university brings in too many temporary residents to be handled by local tax payers, rural resource gathering or farming operation doesn't have enough of a local tax base to fund needed infrastructure

There are talks of Orange and Oseola County creating a special tax district within themselves for Disney rather than have the added cost of running such a large area with only 53 residents. There is also a billion dollar bond issue that the counties could get saddled with when Disney loses the district. Disney's land is over 27,000 acres or 40 square miles and resides in two different counties, which is why the special district was created. Universal Studios land is 541 acres or 0.84 square miles in one county. They are not the same.

Disney will NEVER pull out of Florida. Name one state that would allow Disney to be like it has for all these Decades. Let alone flee and lose BILLIONS in the process. Name a state they could FLEE to? The money the spent to build up everything they have in Florida. The Decades to get to where they are NOW. They can NOT just pickup and move anywhere. That is just laughable.
Ley say Disney does that. FLEE!!! So what!!! Businesses have been flooding into Florida along with people. The state has been growing, unlike CA and N.Y. where people are fleeing. That just means lots and lots of newly opened up, ex Disney land to now build on. Disney would be bankrupt from trying to move. Not sure where they are going to move to that has the same type of weather. Most of the south is a RED State. The money and time that would be thrown away if they tried to move, let alone the costs to start all over again, Billions, Lost, Billions more to rebuild. Throw on the current economy, LOL. Clearly, none of you know anything about business. I do find it really funny for those saying Diskey should just move, and not think anything past that dumb statement.
