    I like how Emi is slowly but steadily delivering us a full ATPL (A) course through his videos. 🙂

      😄That's pretty much what I thought as well. Not that I'm complaining, far from it.

    Thank you! So far I've always used TCAS in ALL mode but now I know when to put it into ABV and BLW. TA/RA has always been more straightforward for me.

    It really depends on the TCAS model installed on the Airbus.
    According to my FCOM it’s either +/-7000ft or +/-9900ft max depending on the TCAS model installed, with +/-2700 ft being the min
    So the ALL position gives a +/-2700ft volume buffer, while the ABV or BLW gives a Min +/-2700 & Max +/- 7000 or 9900 depending on MSN#

    Ahh this is a fantastic topic. Would love more info on how to use TCAS, including the basics of how to read it.

    Useful as always. An idea for a future video perhaps?... one on symbology in the PFD, ND, ECAM etc... all those little symbols and what they mean in various contexts?

    I hoped this video would explain the reasons for different SOPs for the timing of when to turn on TA or TA/RA before/during the line up on the ground

    Hello Emanuel,
    It would be cool to see Traffic list which is in the FMGS and ATSAW.

    You should make a video about weight, balance, fuel and mac% on the a320-200

    And when on VATSIM always use “ALL” lol

    I heard this from another sim CZcamsr that when you are in final approach / landing, pilots would turn on TA mode since there might be traffic on the taxiway near the runway and to avoid any RA warnings and potentially emergency climb from the aircraft as a result of those aircraft on the ground. Is this true? (I assume it is since at least the FBW a32x automatically turns on TA only during final)

    • @JacquesZahar
      @JacquesZahar Před 4 měsíci

      RA are automatically turned off if the aircraft is on the ground for obvious reasons, and below 340ft RA for the same. Turning the TCAS mode to TA is not part of Standard Ops Procedures, don’t trust too much the Simmers

    Are they not whole round numbers because they know you can see the last 100-200ft?

    TA is also used when departing from runways that are parallel correct?

    Hi Emmanuel, thanks a lof for your video, as always I learned something new, I have a concern, but probably is related to the software for the Pilot/ATC network I flight for, once I have a traffic bellow me 1000' on the Fenix A320 ND display I was't able to see the traffic until it was at 20 NM from me, but in the TACACS for the pilot software for that network, I see the traffic since 80 NM, are you aware of any limitation in how far the TACACS see the traffic at your same or similar FL?
    Thanks in advance for your support

      Hi, the maximum range of TCAS is dynamic and depends on how many planes are around you. Normally it extends to anywhere around ~40NM.
      In the real world that is, flight sim developers often set a fixed range.

  • @keyang2740

    what is the diff between auto and on mode on the TCAS system? and when controllers on vatsim ask to squak Charlie, do I put the switch on auto or on mode? Another question: Is it okay if I am taxing to the runway and I switch to Ta or Ta/Ra just to have an idea of the traffic coming in and out etc. Will that affect other aircrafts or will that even be beneficial to me?

    • @JacquesZahar
      @JacquesZahar Před 4 měsíci +1

      Most of the time the airport regulations (and SOPs) prohibit to switch the TCAS to TA/RA before entering the runway and to turn it off after vacating the runway. But fortunately the TCAS TA/RA mode is kinda inhibited when close to the ground (in flight below 1000 ft RA) for that very same reason (even for the landing trafic). Dunno if it’s modeled properly on the sim.
      IRL we can temporarily use the TA position before lining up to figure out the trafic around us, but not for long in order not to generate unwanted trafic/resolution advisory to the incoming landing trafic. Upon entering the runway the TA/RA mode and ABV position should be set

      @@JacquesZahar Thank u very much for explaining the TA/RA on the ground. What about the auto and on modes? Do u know what's the difference?

    • @JacquesZahar
      @JacquesZahar Před 4 měsíci

      @@keyang2740 they are basically the same:
      - ON forces the transponder to ON,
      - AUTO sets the transponder to ON in flight, and only to mode S (selective interrogation mode) on the ground for Airport equipped with ground radar. This causes less cluttering on ATC display, since the Xponder only replies when specifically interrogated.
      AUTO is the standard way to go.

      I've noticed in RA/TA mode that no advisory occurs for traffic within 2000 ft range--esp at cruise--it seems to function in final however--does that indicate a malfunction or setting issue--settings Auto/BOTH/TA/RA
      Perhaps injected traffic not identified in TCAS?
