    My family went through the Ford museum and village when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. I later got to visit the museum with a friend courtesy of our 8th grade science teacher whose parents still lived outside Detroit .AL.

    Cool video. Been there many many times as its almost in my backyard. Fun fact: a piece of the Wright Flyer was taken by NASA with permission and placed on the Moon with a small plaque.

    The rise & Fall cross slide adjusts the tool bit to the center position without shims.

      I wonder if it was something Edison specifically requested on his machines, I've never seen that feature anyplace else and yet nearly all of them in his shop are outfitted that way.

      That sounds like as reasonable of an explanation as I can think of for the application, I had thought of that but it seemed like an awful lot of extra work to make a feature that only is correct for work on one specific diameter without needing to be readjusted, I suppose in what was essentially a rapid prototype development shop everything was about speed.
