  • Some people want nothing to do with Christianity. In fact, they go out of their way to try to knock it down? While our temptation might be to attack them back, we are called to something greater.

Good message. I just found this channel through a Muslim group. John 13:35 says the world will know we are disciples of Jesus by our love for others. I found this to be very true when I encountered Sikhs for the first time - they are so full of Divine Love and Joy, I chose to worship with them in Spirit and Truth for the past seven years. They do not proselytize at all, Sikhs encourage everyone to follow their own religion to the utmost of their ability. Yet the anointing is upon them so strongly because they have The Word, that others spontaneously convert. Sadly, I hardly ever see Christians I want to emulate, because they think redemption means "I can do whatever I want to without worrying about consequences because I'm covered by the blood", instead of doing the Lord's work. I applaud those who have stayed in the Church and fight to keep it Holy.

I’m not Catholic, but my mother was. So, I have a taste of both the Protestant and Catholic worlds. Oddly enough, my maternal grandmother was protestant, and my maternal grandfather was Catholic. I understand that this issue created a point of contention, within the family. When I was six, I wanted to go to church for the first time, but wasn’t allowed to do so, because my mother thought I was too young at the time. Thankfully, I now understand that there is no age limit, when it comes to any church. I admire you for fighting the good fight. You’re going to find “difficult people” out there. But being a follower of Christ was never meant to be easy. Be brave and hang in there. You are a priest, but you’re also human. Sometimes, it’s difficult to create a balance between the priest and human, but that’s OK.

As someone with Asperger, it took me a long time to understand (and see with respect) that humanity is not purely rational, but also emotional. We must convert the "heart", not just the mind, as the Psalmist sings many times. What that also taught me is how completely impotent I am to convert anybody. At least without Christ. I can think in my arrogance that I have the perfect logical defence of Catholicism. And maybe I even do. So what? That means nothing alone. What converts people is the Spirit that I take with me to them. So if I move someone's heart, it isn't because I'm intelligent or wise or a combination of both. It's because Christ has at that moment gifted that person with clarity through me and that person accepted Him. We as Catholics are only the intermediaries of that conversation. We bring the Word to them. The Word then talks to them. And then they decide if they accept the Word or not. It's a relationship between them and the Word, not between them and us. That's what I feel nowadays at least.

This is so important. I know that your ministry comes from a place of love, so I am drawn in to listen to what you say. When we encounter hate, we become defensive and hateful in response and do not listen. But because your message comes with love (you genuinely want what's best for your audience), it so much easier to believe. Through your ministry (and others eg Acension Presents) I have come to learn so much from you of the Catholic faith. I have fallen in love with the Virgin Mary as a mother and have come to appreciate many other aspects of your Church. But when people (Catholic, protestant, anyone) comment with hate or condescension of others, I am turned off and couldn't care less what they say.
Please, brothers in faith, the salvation of souls is too important to allow hate or ignorance into our speech when we speak with each other or with non believers.

I agree with you 100%, Father!! I'm a Catholic layman who (having taken a double major at De Paul U. in Chicago: American History and
Theology) taught Religious Studies for 31 years. Twenty of those years were as the Department Chair. I enjoyed the teenagers. Yet now that I'm retired, when I meet the same antics in adults, it drives me crazy. There's no reason for ANY adult responding to your presentations to react in a vulgar or disrespectful manner. Let these crazies have it!! The internet has allowed trolls to spew out anything and suffer no consequences (EXCEPT living in their own skin.....yuck). If I don't like a TV/radio channel, I just hit the
OFF button. Do the same Father.....delete them & block them. Here's some advice a priest on our staff (former Army chaplain)
gave me when I first started teaching. He said: "John just keep in mind that you CAN'T fix STUPID and you CAN'T shine S- - T."
That's the honest-to-God truth and I still stick to that maxim at age 73. God bless you for all you do. And "get your Irish up"

It took me a long time to learn something that my father tried to teach me when I was a teen. When you tell someone to shut up or call them a name or anything along that line? Their ears are automatically closed and they will not listen, no matter how sound your argument is. Who is the saint that said “let your actions be your sermon“? I have often found that is the best way. And often times simply responding with a thought-provoking question of my own and qualifying it by saying I will think about their point but out of respect, they should all think about mine. Even in the Middle East, where religion is not really politely discussed, this seem to have worked. Thank you so much, father, for all of The content you post on this channel. Especially for this video, it's true that it is good relationships that make people change and not teaching that blames other people's views. Granted one of those arguments by the grace of God somehow cooled down to the point where I had genuinely convinced the other that no, we don't hate science. Still one of my finest moments thinking back, that even if I didn't convince them to be baptized, I still was able to make them think even a bit better of the Church.

One of my BFFs switched from being Catholic to being evangelical. She went from making fun of those of us who followed our faith to one who tried to convert us at every opportunity. On two occasions, when she badgered me, I don't know how it happened, or where the the knowledge came from, but for every bible quote she could give me, I was able to quote one back, and actually find it in the Bible. I don't know who wrote what in the best of times, but I truly believe God was walking my fingers, lol. She leaves me alone that way now, and is one of the most troubled folks I know. If she could have applied the fire she had at the beginning of her evangelical life to the Truth, I believe her life would be much more peaceful. You Fr. I literally just had a full 4 or 5 hours arguing with other Christians on a topic because they were stating I, Protestants (of a certain sort), and all Catholics were of Babylon because of a specific thing I don't practice the way they do.
It was a very bad discussion. One was very rude (once called us filth), and the other was nice but made frustrating assumptions. I realized halfway through that I began to hate their denomination because of this argument, and realized I was more motivated by anger towards them in an instance of unsolicited doctrinal debate that began with me asking for advice about Baptism.
I appreciate hearing this from you. I need to reform my emotional state when it comes to arguing to be loving. This has happened multiple times this week and has probably eaten 10 hours of my valuable study time (very bad thing).

Suggest checking out by interested peoples Eucharistic Miracles, the image of Our Lady of Guardelupe, saints who are still "in one piece" years after death, etc. etc. I believe that these miracles are just pointers to the truth....which is held by Jesus Christ within His Church! Your viewpoint in this video is both meaningful and spot on. At the same time, I believe that you (and others) are very much "in the right" even when you blow your top, so to speak, against injustice and/or actions with an evil or demeaning intent. I remember the episode in which Jesus himself, who, when confronted by the Scribes and Pharisees while he was discussing some dogmatic principle, looked them straight in the eyes and called them Whitewashed Sepulchers because he recognized their hypocrisy. Yes, he called them a name that was very derogatory. Then there was the time when they questioned him about his disciples plucking grain on the Sabbath from the fields as they walked along--something clearly against Mosaic law. Instead of being defensive, he went on the offensive and asked them who among them wouldn't rescue their oxen on the Sabbath if said oxen had fallen into a pit. In short, he rebuked them for being more concerned about the letter of the law than the intent of the law. That said, I believe that it is in fact your duty (as it is for anyone) to counter and/or question the misinformation that people promote or, when necessary, guide their behavior back to moral and ethical standards when it is clearly harmful. I believe that to do otherwise is giving them tacit permission to continue doing what they are doing. How they respond will depend on how responsive they are to the Holy Spirit's guidance--and that is something only they have control over.

There’s so much truth here that I wish more people and groups would hear and take to heart. I think we’ve all seen so many downright dreadful back and forth spitting matches over the internet. It’s so easy for people to degrade into low blows and heavy handed insults when we don’t know them. So easy to see each other as words on a screen than as a fellow humans. And it’s so easy for us to lose sight of our own goal of convincing or conversion and turn to this, all the while breeding more hatred and resentment towards our position within those we’re talking to, due to the poor way we’ve treated them. We justify their preconceptions of the opposition, and devalue the truth in our positions. Thank you for fighting this fight, Father. I’ll be praying for your strength in virtues for your endeavors.

Dear Padre, Thank you for helping me be stronger in my faith. Thank you for reminding me how we should be the face of Christ to others and seek the face of Christ in others...no matter who they are. My son and his wife are getting divorced after 10 years of marriage. We just found this out this week. But by the grace of God, I am not angry at my daughter in law. Our son has tried all he can to save this relationship but she does not want it to continue. She has lots of hurt and darkness from many challenges in her life. She was not raised with a belief in God. We knew this from the start. My belief was that God brought her into our lives so we could be the face of Christ to her. And we’ve stayed true to that as much as possible - loving and accepting her. When we found out their marriage was ending, yet considering all the challenges they’ve had - including alcohol abuse by both of them, we felt some relief. Our Son is sober now. She is not yet. So it’s has been a very hard year. So honestly we didn’t expect to see her this Christmas. Yet she asked our son if she could see us on Christmas Day. tthis year, It will be the first time we’ve seen or spoken to her since her decision to end their marriage was made. Keep us in your prayers as you will be in ours. And may God and all the angels and saints and the Blessed Mother guide and give us the words and strength to continue to be the Face of Christ for her and my son and all whom we encounter. Thank you for this video. God bless and Merry Christmas.

You are right Father, though I would add a qualifier to what you've said. Occasionally when some people are spreading genuine confusion or error about the Gospel and being obstinate about it, I think we do have to reprimand them, if not for their own sake then for the sake of the scandalised faithful. And sometimes having their sins pointed out can help a brother or sister to come closer to Christ, but that usually only works with people who already respect you, and should never be done with any more harshness than necessary. But yes Father, I think you're right about the general attitude we should take towards strangers on the Internet. Thanks.

Ah, Father, I understand the trouble and hardship of keeping calm. What I do when evangelizing and someone says something against the Church or me, I ignore what happens to me for the Glory of God (which is worth wayyyy more than my pride) and I correct their heresies. God bless you and keep spreading this Holy Church, Father.

Thank you Fr Casey. I have to admit, I am very quick to jump to the bait and retaliate on line. Maybe listening to this over again will help stop, and resist the use of tongue, pen, keyboard and thumbs a bit more.
