My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Morack Public GC in Vermont South and the Lang Lang GC in beautiful South Gippsland (An hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.
    FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
Why do you make videos for CZcams? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
Do you make money off CZcams? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/thegolfdoctor
    Thanks for watching!

I tried all seven tips yesterday. The two most difficult were (a) putting with eyes closed - I missed more than I made from 4 feet, and (b) not looking up at the hole until after the ball either went in or missed. The surprise from that is I was more relaxed when not looking up. I'm sure that will help my putting anxiety. These results were after one session of practice - I will keep at it. Thanks for the great tips.

@@fitzygolfpro Brian, I watched this video again and got two more thought provoking suggestions out of it that you offered. One was to try one handed putts, which I do once in a while, but not consistently. And, to look at the back of the hole, which appears to be bigger than the front. I also thought about running down the shaft a little to shorten the club for a shorter stroke. Hopefully, this will have me breaking the 30 putt barrier.

A good tip that really helped me start holing more putts, medium and short, is to putt through to the front of the ball frm the back. This helps you subconsciously keep the putter face square and online for those critical few inches. So, I line up my ball with the line drawn on it, address it, then look at the front of the ball and make my stroke until I see the putter head pass through where the front of the ball was. Try it!

There are so many grip thicknesses available these days you can get any size grip you want.
Back in the early 80's when I was experimenting with grips I had to wrap a tennis grip or two to make them thicker or just use a lot of packing tape.
My preference is to get the right size to start with and only use 1 layer of tape.

Try hitting 3 foot puts from the around the hole say the NSEW game.
Then put a circle of tees around the hole using 8 tees. Then put tees in the ground at 5 foot intervals from 15 feet to 45 feet.
How many balls can you get in the circle using 1 ball from each tee.

Here is how to learn how to make short putts. Take two dowel rods and make a 7 foot string to putt under. The only purpose of this is to find a consistent level spot to make straight putts from. Now start experimenting on what works from day to day and what doesn't. Too often timing alone will put everything in the hole but won't do it the next day. You will eventually find that the only thing that works consistently and right from the get-go the next day is the principles expounded by Ben Crenshaw. Even Tiger uses them. You have to give up control of the putter in order to get control of the putter. You must remove yourself from the putt and let it swing on it's own inertia or momentum. It thus has exactly zero propensity to twist. And as Ben says, the putter has to be ready to fall out of your hands in order to reach this free wheeling state. "Release" means let it swing. Arnie eluded to the same thing. Arnie insisted there has to be zero tension in the fingers, hands, and arms. That is the only way you can put the putter into it's own momentum so that it won't twist on the tilted plane it is riding on. It works !

The main causes of missing putts under 7 feet are :
    1. Not aiming the club face correctly
    2. Incorrect pace
    3. Eyes not on the line
    4. Break down of the leading hands wrist
I'm a scratch golfer (with a full time job). I managed to fix the above problems. I created a unique putting grip which prevents left wrist movement. My eyes are on the line. The weight of my putts are usually very good.

Hi David. I agree with what you have said. Not just for short putts but all putts.
It sounds like you have it all sorted out for your game which is great. Congratulations on getting to scratch. That is a great achievement.

      Thanks for your comment.
