Good Bless you guys. Thank you for posting this. This is just what I need to take on building two gable dormers on the front of our house. I built two large shed dormers on the back bedroom one on each side, but gables are in a league of their own. This gave me the confidence to tackle this in the spring. Thanks again. I belive i have watched all your you tube videos. Love the roofing videos.
Rafters always mess me up, because I don't do them often enough for it to be second nature. I always have to try a few times before I get it right (and ruin a few boards). I've looked up many videos explaining it, but none have explained it as well as this one for me. Most videos just tell you what to do, not why you do it. Matt explained each step and why. Awesome video.
1:10:38 Lots of opportunity for wind driven rain to to cause a leak there if not done correctly. "keep the sub facia 3/4 inch off the decking for the shingles to slide in" I had to do that on my own roof recently, where the "fly rafter" of the main gable meets a smaller gable of an addition. I cut the fly rafter short, so that shingles for the lower gable could be put under the end of it.
