As part of the New York art scene in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Joan Jonas became a trailblazer in video and performance art. For over 50 years, her hugely influential practice has explored identity, ritual and myth, and human and animal relations. First conceived of in a prior visit to Kochi, Jonas’ installation Moving Off the Land II is an exploration of the ‘watery world’ of oceanic life, mythologies, and poetry.
