- Hey everyone, here's another a day in my life of being a legal assistant. Some have asked what I do as a legal assistant so I explained it in the video. This is also my full time job, I graduated from university last year. This is what my day to day looks like from Monday to Friday!
Disclaimer: I am not wearing a mask in the office because I'm the only one there. If people are coming into the office mask is obviously mandatory

Being a legal assistant is a lot of work...I've been doing it for 20 plus years...if I could go back, I'd choose a different career. It is very dependant on who your boss is, but you basically get all the stress of a lawyer without the pay

Hi! I know you posted this a while ago, but I have only worked in fast food and have taken accounting classes for a certification. I'm a fast learner but how did you learn how to file, take notes, create templates, etc?
I was trained in a way how my boss would want me to file, take notes, and so on. I didnt know what I was doing at first tbh. People have different styles on how they want things to work and so I was trained in a certain way that fits within our firm. So I dont have a direct answer to this bcuz as time goes on I just picked up on things. Reading and researching helps a lot

What’s the difference between paralegal n legal assistant? My school offers an associates in paralegal studies n legal assistant certificate, i don’t know which to choose
Hey! Paralegals are involved with lawyers and more so with the law itself. Whereas, legal assistants are more on the broader side of things and its more office admin stuff. But experienced legal assistants can be paralegals in the future!
Nothing to be honest. A legal assistant is a paralegal lol just at entry level.

Legal assistant but it’s hard work
So mainly it doesn't look that bad or difficult I would keep a planner with me.
My concern is will my firm let me leave early on Friday to pick my child up every other week.
If your boss is lenient then yeah! Ive done so so many times just going to appointments and picking up family members during office hours

Could you please tell me if I am not 100 percent good at communicating with people can I be a paralegal? I moved to Michigan from India, it's been 4 years. I am trying to improve my communication skills as much as I can, but still more need to learn.

Yes you can! If communicating is something you’re worried about dont let that stop you. I had my fair share of troubles when it comes to talking to other ppl. Also, there are ppl who will guide you along the way and you will progress throughout😊

Paperless filing
Invoices

Taking notes during the meeting
Drafting notes
Drafting documents
Preparing Billings
Did you know exactly before joining as a legal assistant that you are gonna be doing this kind of work. Did you prepared yourself to work on those skills to work as a legal assistant when you were in college or university? Did somebody trained you to do all of those things such drafting documents, drafting notes, taking notes during the meeting, filing and billing.
How was your first day of job?
I am a bit concerned because I am not good at writing because I am from a different country and looking forward to continue my paralegal associate degree this fall semester.
I have the most amazing boss and he trained me. I always wanted a job at a legal field and yes i was aware of the things that i am doing before hand. Tbh I did want to become a lawyer before thats my focus when i was at uni. Rn its hard to decide if i still want to pursue it or not. Dont be scared there are ppl who will help you along the way

I just saw your comment, they are similar but legal secretaries are licensed and do more clerical work, also the salaries are a bit different! :)

What’s the difference between a Paralegal and a Legal Assistant? When I search it up some say they’re the same, and others say they’re different but don’t really specify as to how or why
They are the same thing but the only difference is a paralegal has more experience than a legal assistant. A paralegal can draft the documents, be involve with law research, they can summarize reports, gather info about cases and etc. a legal assistant is more on the office ad side of things that only involves filing, emails, preparing invoice, but they cannot be involve with the law itself. I’ll go more indepth about this but thats how i can summarize it😊

hey, im going to search your channel for it, and i know this is a very old video, but i do want to know 2 things. Did you go to school for this ? And what was the process into getting hired? This is a way out of my field, but quite interested in being within the space for income.
I did a video talking about it in depth. But i have a certificate in relation to the field and tbh i got hired when covid was just done so the process really was just a phone interview. Hope I answered your question!😊

I was in a complete different field, where my knowledge grew in the building game, but I didn't quite fit into taking on my father's trade. I get government funds, to which is related to a disability support pension, where is, I choose not to work if I don't want to, but I'm off work caring for my father. I wanna do a complete change of career to get into this role as a legal assistant, a job I can have, where I can stay for as long as I can, but in mind, I have, there's a training course at Tafe (college) to train to be an office work assistant. Meanwhile, while I'm off work as a carer for my father, I can prepare for a training course. People make use of Microsoft office in probably every office firm and it cost money to buy to use. So, I'm spending a bit of money to buy Microsoft office to prepare for a training course, so when the time comes, I can be a quick learner to train in a training course to maybe start off as an office work assistant, grow my knowledge for a while from there and then train at Tafe (college) as a legal assistant.

A legal assistant and paralegal are the same thing. Just at entry level. You literally do about the same. It’s hard work
How do we get a job if we have no experience? Because I just switched my major and I’m interested in law…but I only have qualifications in medical..
Hey! My studies all through university involved law so that was why i was qualified. I recommend taking courses within law whether thats criminal or human rights just to get a background from it! 😊
