  • A quick video tutorial to help with the free Infinity Scarf w/Zipper Pocket from the 2018 Holiday Freebies!
    I walked you through leaving an opening in the pocket, rather than leaving the opening in the side seam. But it's super easy to make either way!
    The tutorial lives here: patternsforpirates.com/zipper-scarf-tutorial/
    Remember, this pattern is one of our holiday freebies...which means there are NO PATTERN PIECES, it's just a tutorial on the blog.
    FABRICS WE RECOMMEND: flannel, quilting cottons, shirtings, liverpool, sweater knits, french terry, jersey knit, dbp, etc. If you use a knit fabric, you'll probably want to add interfacing on the part where the zipper attaches, for stability.

    Thank you so much! This is the best tutorial to make an infinity scar with a pocket!

    Thank you so much! I started making two of these for Christmas and when I got to the part where you stitch the other side of the zipper I was afraid of doing it wrong. Being able to come in here and watch you do it was a LOT of help. And I love being able to turn it through the pocket so that was an added bonus!

    What Jaime said, seems complicated but thanks so much for breaking it down to EASY! Love the turn inside pocket idea

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. I've made a couple of these scarves, & I love them! I wear them at work because I'm always cold in the office, & I usually don't have a place to carry my phone or a pen or my ID or keys while I'm at work.
    Your tutorial is unique because you show how to sew a LINING for the pocket. Other tutorials just throw a zipper on an infinity scarf and your stuff just rolls around the full length of the scarf which is not attractive or convenient.
    I will be making these as gifts this year. I know my friends & family will love them! Thank you again.

    I just fell in love with some material that I knew was perfect for an infinity scarf.
    Never though of a pocket! Thank you for the heads-up on leaving the portion of the
    pocket open to turn inside out. Great spot... I hate hand sewing!

    I recently made a longer version (2.5 yds) with two pockets (one on each end). When I double loop the longer scarf I can pin it in the middle with a brooch & there is enough length for me to pull it down over my shoulders & wear it as a shrug. Love it! Thank you again!

    I made a few of these years ago for gifts and my way was SO much more complicated lol. I believe I sewed the whole pocket on first in pouch form and got it on the scarf somehow without sewing it all shut! And then turned it inside out lol.
    I just found some fabric and decided to make a few more. Glad I saw your video as a refresher and better way of doing it! Love the pulling it thru the pocket version. Cheers

    Adding a small 1/2 by 4" overall + S.A. fabric loop to one edge so can slip on to a hook or over the business end of a hanger. Making a prototype in flannel... with that loop. Thanks!

      @caroldean4417 Před 3 lety

      or if you ever forget your loop sewn in the a seam, just put a ribbon through zipper pull (zp) with a knot at the end to make a loop and it will function same way as fabric loop.

    I'm making a few of these for winter travel to Europe. I think pick pocketing from a scarf pocket will be unlikely (and I can hardly find the pocket it's so well hidden) and it will keep me warm and stylish.

    I like to finish all edges before sewing; this prevents bumps forming (fabric tends to unravel then knotting up when washed) inside scarf after washing. i do like silky soft fabrics that tend to fray easily.

    Is the pocket width the length of the zipper tape or the length from the zipper pull to the zipper stop please? In the video the zipper/pocket placement at 2.45 is different from the laying out part a few seconds earlier.

    • @katymckinley830
      @katymckinley830 Před 5 lety +3

      Zipper pull to zipper stop. I was wrapping my arms around from behind a tripod so I could film the process and couldn't see what I was doing....so I adjusted when I stitched it.

    I know that it’s been quite a while since you posted this video but I did want to ask if it’s possible to use plain cotton fabric for the scarf? Would it still be relatively warm?

    • @KatyMcKinley
      @KatyMcKinley Před 3 lety

      Hi Pixie, a lot of people have used quilting cotton for their scarves. It obviously won't hold the same warmth as a fleece would, but it would still provide some coverage for your neck during the cooler months. :)

  • @christypoos9728
    @christypoos9728 Před 5 lety

    If you use 2 cuts of WOF you only need 1 yard. It would make scarf 18 inchs wide and 80 to 84 long.... Plenty of fabric.
