I wanted one of these back in the '80s so badly. In a sea of Supra's, RX7's, and Prelude's, the Impulse definitely stood out.

I owned the 1987 Turbo with handling by Lotus. It was a metallic grey with a greyish interior. It was a fun ride for the time and stood out. It could be driven spiritedly. It was about as fast as a 944 or 924s of the era, with 0-60 times coming in close to 8 seconds. I believe I paid $15,500 for it with a comprehensive third-party warranty. I found the suspension soft with too much travel, so I upgraded it with KYB shocks and struts. If I recall correctly, the stock rubber was Bridgestone Potenza RE-71s, which was not very good in winter weather, but performed well for the time in warmer months. The car came with a Technics stereo which had a pleasing sound. Overall the car was plagued with many mechanical issues, which left me thinking Isuzu was the Japanese word for poop, but I know now that word is Unchi which would have a good name instead of Impulse. I sold it in 1992 and purchased another GM product, which I believe was one of the most mechanically sound cars I ever owned, the Saturn SL2, but that's a whole other story.

They are fun looking but very underwhelming, hence the lack of classic value. Even the ultra rare next gen or AWD Impulse is worth very little.

This car and others like it were made in an era where cars were build with aerodynamics in mind.todays cars are like bricks.compare Camaros and mustangs from the 80s to late 90s they still had that shape.look at them now.they are both very thick in the front.if they had the slick front end today, they would pull far better than they do with the shape they have now.this is just my opinion.

My '85 turbo smoked a lot more than that...but on the days it did run, it was a fun car in the turns...til the engine folded in '89. The first owner had more fun with it than he led on...

Not really, they looked cool but performed like a pickup truck with sporty body on it.

I owned a new 1984 Impulse. When the Turbo came out in the 1985 model year, I had to drive one to see the improvements. Here's what I observed: The engine was rough, course & very noisy at revs. Was it a lot faster? That was hard to tell because of all the takeaways in my previous observation. I absolutely hated it!

Hi Michael, please message me about your F-150. I have one that started doing the same thing today and I'm curious as to whether it's been fixed or how they handled it. I've had mine less than 2 weeks so I'm a little perplexed.

It got fixed, took about 35 days to get replacement instrument cluster but it runs now perfectly fine for about 2k miles.
