  • I reckon there will always be some kind of market for Digital SLRs, but mirrorless cameras are undoubtedly the future: so, I'm very excited to be testing out my first Canon RF camera lens, for their new EOS R full-frame mirrorless cameras: an update of their perennial favourite 24-105mm f/4 model. Let's see how well it works.

I am using my "old" EF glas with the EF-2-RF mount adapter with the control ring. So I have this feature also to my "old" EF and EF-S lenses. They are working pretty well on my EOS RP and R7. And my EF L lenses are performing very good on the R mirrorless system with the adapter. Thank you for your work for testing all this (for me Canon) lenses!!!

@@beezymeech what do you call a lens that’s bundled with a camera body at a discount? I believe the overwhelming majority of photographers would call that…a “kit lens”. Haha the EF and RF 24-105 lenses have often been referred to as kit lenses for professional and semi professional bodies. I got my RF 24-105 included with my EOS R.

I bought one of these for my wife. She uses it on her EOS RP. The focus speed on this lens is amazing. I have an EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L II that we used on her RP via the adapter and the focus speed on that lens isn't nearly as fast as this lens. Its also lightweight.
We bought it pre-owned. We buy most of our Canon products either pre-owned or Canon refurbished. We save tons of $$$$$.

I got one of the old EF 24-105/4 kit'd with my 5D mk2 back when that camera was launched. It's the only lens I've ever abused. I once managed to drop it by not having closed my camera bag and standing up, it fell out and landed on the sidewalk. It still works 100% but the filter screw thread got FUBAR bent. I've always been really impressed with my little 24-105 that it's still alive and kicking and I've since (knock on wood) never done something that stupid to my gear.

At the end of the day, in my landscape photography is the one I use the most.
Everybody is telling you how good was your review. However, nobody asks why you did find almost NO difference when comparing sharpness in RF vs EF.
Even Dustin Abbott found a clear winner. To be honest your review confused me a little bit regarding potential improvements in this new RF version. Any thoughts?
