Okay I was initially not going to respond to this at all but looking at the comments by other people I feel I should step in and clarify. Firstly, it’s NOT a scam. A game of this scale takes time to make. Games abroad have budgets upwards of $10 million. We do have funding but it’s nowhere near to what these multi million dollar companies have. Plus talent scouting in India for a game like this is yet another challenge. Yeah, now there will be people who will come and say that look at this game developed by a small team of 5-6 people or look at that game developed solo. It’s different strokes for different folks. Every game has a different development journey. Secondly, with regards to the teaser and MoneyControl article now. The teaser was created to showcase interest by the public and to validate the idea which served its purpose. The MoneyControl article misquoted me, I had mentioned to them that I was thinking of starting creating this game since my childhood and about 5 years before the teaser I started manifesting the idea of making such a game, I was misquoted mentioning that the game was under development 5 years before the teaser. Our development very much began at the end of 2020 and the teaser was made in Unreal Engine to demonstrate the idea. I would agree, in hindsight, that announcing the release date early on was a mistake and that should’ve been planned carefully. I understand the discontent among the people who are waiting for this game that they want to see the game released as soon as possible but I have to ensure that we release the game in its best shape and form for the audience. I think in the video there was a gray area left with regards to the development of the game because of which it almost conveys the message that the game’s development hasn’t started which is NOT true at all. We have a dedicated team working extremely hard and going through multiple challenges to make this game possible. It’s unfortunate to see people assuming things and calling us out on things that are not factually true at all. I don’t think an explanation video reply to this video is needed at this point because my energies are invested in ensuring our studio has enough capital to make this game and release it in the market. This has been evident with my recent schedule wherein I’m not putting out much content on CZcams because I’m busy with my company and ensuring we’re doing this right. Videos like this in the current times are extremely misleading to say that the “game is bad”. This is actually the furthest away from truth. One can’t judge a game till it’s released and when a game is under development there are always things that are work in progress and are not the final output. I also saw some comments related to the usage of assets at places, well for those people I just want to say that if you have some game development background then use of assets in initial stages of development is really okay as long as it allows to get your desired output quickly. Also, as we move deeper into development a lot of these assets get replaced with original systems. A lot of the audience over here are calling it a scam based on half information which is quite damaging for our reputation. I would definitely be alright with any kinds of reviews once the game is out but as of now videos like this are basically just judging a book by its cover. Also additionally all the people who have invested in us I want to assure you that your investment is safe, I know it’s taking time to see an output but that’s how it is in game development. You have to wait till the game is ready else it’ll be a disaster and currently the game is not released so regardless of whatever the audience is saying it has NOT failed. I don’t know why people are calling it a failure when it’s not even launched yet. Doesn’t make sense at all. Anyway, I’m focusing my energies now on building the game but I had to explain my side here especially when people are watching just half or less of this video and forming inaccurate opinions about the game.
I have no expectation with the Mumbai Gullies not because I doubt you and yours team it's because it's first time(which is fine I guess cause If the game is even decent then it will leave good impression rather than setting high expectations and get disappointed)but that doesn't mean we should call it SCAM or bad. I am Pakistani but I am shocked that how much Indians in this comment sections are demotivated, they are saying that a game can never be good if made in India. I want to tell them that it's not about the game being developed in India, rather it's about the people who are developing it, what their aim is, what they are thinking, how big their thinking is about the game and other factors. Their obviously is hidden talent in India but they don't have money to buy powerful PCs or make a studio or hire a team to make the game they have idea of, probably they know how the game development goes. As an indie game dev myself, I would never in my life, would compete or go head on with Rockstar or Bethesda or someone similar, not because I am incapable of making GTA or Fallout or Call of Duty, but simply because the resources they have access to, I don't. So it would be wise to stick to what we have available instead of complaining and just make the BEST game that we can within our limits. A great example is Raji and Fishbowl. 💌

i sometimes wonder why people just think that a small studio from India with not as much funding as rockstar thin that they can make a game of thier quality i mean it is impossible so I thin we have to keep our expectations a little low and see if the game has good sotry except the graphics it does good sales we can expect that the next mumbai gullies will be of gta quality
Its very difficult to develop games especially in India. There are hardly any good game studios here. So if someone is trying to make a game at a larger scale then let's support them. Kudos to nikhil bhai for all his efforts. I am actually looking forward to playing mumbai gullies.

The thing about Lazy is that he admits his mistakes and work upon it, that’s what make him a honest gaming youtuber. I was also kinda excited for mumbai gullies ( excited not hyped but i was yeah ) but looking at recent builds , man this game is really gonna struggle if they don’t improve it, i know humans make mistakes but creating unnecessary hype is bad. Now i hope gameeon work on their game and atleast made it playable and enjoyable for most of the gamers. I know it’s not easy but since they have decided to make an “ Indian GTA “ i hope they will keep their promises but guys don’t expect anything good for now
The greatest insult is that they did not even use unreal engine asset place in it's right way. I have seen students project's that use asset place to it's maximum and effectively.

I'm also Game Developer. I agree on this. Main mistake was to connect Game Expectations with GTA. 1 Important point missed. Because GTA is multiplayer People already waiting for Mumbai Gullies "Multiplayer" which is not in the plan. Means Mumbai Gullies going to be Single player. So Nikhil should clarify such things so people will not over expect. Overhyping game is also bad for any game even for Rockstar. so they also take small steps towards marketing. to avoid overhype and deliver actual product. I similar mistake was done by Rogue Heist PC. still there game visuals was great but after actual testing they decided to not release the game. Don't know what went wrong...
Don't worry guys. I am a game developer. We are working on a AAA like game (not AAA Because we are not big studio). And it's very unique and different. Just wait. I know what these developers are doing. They are making games without experience. It's so sad to see. First these guys has to make many small projects just to get experience and to learn how to use the game engine.

If the price of the game is maintained appropriately, keeping it cheap enough for everyone to buy and also expensive enough to gather profits, the game could go huge. Competing with the global market is 100x harder, do u hear yourself? @@pageflip01 You are wrong...huge population doesn't always mean huge market..their spending power must be enough to purchase game directly from steam or any trusted platform... 80% indians choose not to spend money on purchasing legally licensed games they will download pirated copies instead and those who do have capacity to spend won't do much for specifically those developers who made a AAA game specifically for indian audience.. And you are saying the global market is competitive although you are correct on that but quality doesn't matter nowadays any indie developer if their own unique concept is good enough then they can capture market on their own(eg - among us,lethal company,fnaf series,granny series,buckshot roulette,etc) All you need as indie developer is your own creation unique and engaging enough so that people just don't care about quality but still enjoy it and I know what I am talking unlike you

Indian Devs should focus on indie games as of now.. moreover, I, like many other games have played many AAA games (Being an owner of a XBX console, I had the privilege to play games as old as golden eye 007 and as new as Alan Wake 2 and Suicide squad- thanks to game pass and Backward compatibility) and aisa nahi hai ke Indian AAA games hi aise hai.. aajkal to har AAA game ek jaisa hi aa raha hai (The last AAA game I found was amazing is Elden Ring) Indie Dev's pe thoda zyada dhyan Dena chahiye as they are coming with some really amazing gems... The games as small as 1GB are screwing over 100-150 GB long AAA games.. Games like Venba, Open roads, LKBC are more fun than the AAA games we are getting nowadays. Even the Indian Indie game, Venba is quite a gem, most of the people don't know about
Why do these developers always go for an open world GTA clone. There are a lot of good indie games with much smaller budget. There’s PUBG(PC Version), helldivers, undertale, stardew valley. They could make a side scroller, Turn based RPG, metroidvania or anything other than open world GTA clone. I guess the problem is lack of creativity rather than budget constraints

Hey bro, a lot of game studios tend to work on teasers, trailers, etc. first to gauge public interest and funding. Testing the waters is very common even in larger AA to AAA studios. There are many terminologies involved. Prototype, Proof of Concept, Vertical Slice, etc. Game dev goes through many stages, including the blue sky stage where everything goes in the canvas, the team throws ideas at the board until something clicks and lands. It's a long, arduous process. We have tech that enables us to do many things, unfortunately replacing manpower (that of Rockstar, Ubisoft, Rocksteady etc) is not possible. We also have good talent, a lot of these big companies are outsourcing their game dev to us only. The issue arises in - 1. public mindset, a lot of people will scrutinize the product for being a 'shitty GTA' without even giving it a chance. Creating hype, fundraising, while also developing the game in this circumstance is a mammothian task. 2. - funding, the outside studios are earning in millions, so when you say (in comments) that other games like AC Shadows, Day Before, Dragon Age or anything else is being criticized, please understand the scope, the state of their home country's industry, etc. Of course those studios should be held to that standard of scrutiny from the public, because they've already gotten into great cashflow states over the years and have a highly impressive legacy to begin their new projects with. While I agree with your video that GameEon's marketing approach goes on a No-Man's-Sky type tangent by overpromising, or for those older who remember Peter Molyneux (of Fable fame) I do hope they learn from their mistakes and find a compromise between creating hype and staying realistic. Ultimately I'm willing to give the pioneers of the Indian game industry a chance, for they're among the first few who have not only conceptualized, but also raised funds and are trying to execute a grand scale project. Let's see where it goes.

As a indie game developer I can clearly say Mumbai Gullies would be better if their plans were clear since the beginning. The lack of expertise and quality can be seen in every single aspect. For such a powerful software like Unreal Engine, it seems like they didn't even try to make it similiar to GTA where some countries like Brazil or neighbouring Bangladesh, they have ambitious developers who takes their jobs properly rather than just making some cartoons casually...

I mean even if the game was not up to its expectations it was a good try and must be the baby steps towards game developing industry in India. Atleast they tried we should appreciate it. Even Rockstar games began their empire from scratch.

I came to know about this channel because of his Mumbai Gullies reviews/updates. He was one of the CZcamsrs creating excessive hype just to get views, lol. As rightly said, we should never trust any game without watching its gameplay. This logic also applies to CZcamsrs like you!
If comparing this game with gta 6, then Nikhil should have known there’s no chance for him at all, leave that even if he compares it to rdr2 which is 6 yrs old it still doesn’t stand a chance, tbh no one did on the launch of rdr2 this game was on next level. Then comes the budget of approx 2 billion dollars for gta 6 and the amount of hard work from those 10000 devs working on the game. Even skill is the thing when it comes to development. He should have started from a basic, instead of calling it “Mumbai ka gta”, he should have said “inspired from gta”. He was able to butter up so many people for these many years, he should have tried buttering Rockstar for little 1% chance of sympathy on him 😂
Being an Indian and seeing Indian game companies fail makes me kind of mad like they have the budget they have the team yet they still fail I don't know much about game development and I don't have a pc but I have a few games in mind that I wanna make What the companies lack is ideas gameeon in my opinion isn't doing anything they're just making gta 5 based on Mumbai I swear they might have some missions copied from all the other gta games and they'll call it inspiration they won't admit they didn't have any ideas As for me the games I have planned yes they are copied from popular games I'll say it but the idea is different Here are the games I would wanna make God Of War Betrayal Remake Why god of war betrayal I love the series and betrayal is canon but not many people can play it today and the emulator sucks for that game so a 3d remake of that game just to learn and experiment with it KaalYog This game KaalYog I'm calling is based on the last of us so it's set in an apocalyptic world overrun by assur or other monsters I haven't given much thought to the story because I don't know much about our origins and gods and I wouldn't want that game to be banned in the country it's based on but the idea I have is the gods have abandoned the people of earth because of people disrespecting the earth which has caused havoc on earth and there is some evil entity that is unleashing these monster and having people believe it's the gods doing to cause them to hate on gods and make the evil entity their new god so that entity gains more power the gameplay is similar to the last of us and the main character is unaware of everything and is not religious but believes in god and that's it Night Crawlers or just Crawlers whatever you may call it This game is based on Mortal Kombat But not like the i must consult with the elder gods type it's kind of like Tokyo revengers a gang was developed which caused many other people to create a gang to become a wannabe gangster and they fight over areas I got this idea because I wanted to create a group of people which hangout at night and do stuff they're ashamed of doing in the day because the people of the group won't judge them or bother them that's what I came up with and decided this is a game material a fighting game material God Of War Ambrosia Of Asclepius I know why another god of war game well because I love god of war the most and the comic is great but there was no game of that comic so i thought I'll make it myself this idea however is also a test and experiment because this game must be good graphically so this will help me learn better to make KaalYog Better KaalYog isn't the confirmed name i might change it or I'll change the name to it's English translation Dark Age All these games i mentioned are not for Android mobiles only the betrayal remake is others if I do make will be on the PS4 or 5 if i could or if I do I have more ideas but my phone is so weak it's lagging as I'm typing so i can't drop more ideas

Okay I was initially not going to respond to this at all but looking at the comments by other people I feel I should step in and clarify.
Firstly, it’s NOT a scam. A game of this scale takes time to make. Games abroad have budgets upwards of $10 million. We do have funding but it’s nowhere near to what these multi million dollar companies have. Plus talent scouting in India for a game like this is yet another challenge. Yeah, now there will be people who will come and say that look at this game developed by a small team of 5-6 people or look at that game developed solo. It’s different strokes for different folks. Every game has a different development journey.
Secondly, with regards to the teaser and MoneyControl article now. The teaser was created to showcase interest by the public and to validate the idea which served its purpose. The MoneyControl article misquoted me, I had mentioned to them that I was thinking of starting creating this game since my childhood and about 5 years before the teaser I started manifesting the idea of making such a game, I was misquoted mentioning that the game was under development 5 years before the teaser. Our development very much began at the end of 2020 and the teaser was made in Unreal Engine to demonstrate the idea.
I would agree, in hindsight, that announcing the release date early on was a mistake and that should’ve been planned carefully. I understand the discontent among the people who are waiting for this game that they want to see the game released as soon as possible but I have to ensure that we release the game in its best shape and form for the audience.
I think in the video there was a gray area left with regards to the development of the game because of which it almost conveys the message that the game’s development hasn’t started which is NOT true at all. We have a dedicated team working extremely hard and going through multiple challenges to make this game possible. It’s unfortunate to see people assuming things and calling us out on things that are not factually true at all.
I don’t think an explanation video reply to this video is needed at this point because my energies are invested in ensuring our studio has enough capital to make this game and release it in the market. This has been evident with my recent schedule wherein I’m not putting out much content on CZcams because I’m busy with my company and ensuring we’re doing this right.
Videos like this in the current times are extremely misleading to say that the “game is bad”. This is actually the furthest away from truth. One can’t judge a game till it’s released and when a game is under development there are always things that are work in progress and are not the final output. I also saw some comments related to the usage of assets at places, well for those people I just want to say that if you have some game development background then use of assets in initial stages of development is really okay as long as it allows to get your desired output quickly. Also, as we move deeper into development a lot of these assets get replaced with original systems.
A lot of the audience over here are calling it a scam based on half information which is quite damaging for our reputation. I would definitely be alright with any kinds of reviews once the game is out but as of now videos like this are basically just judging a book by its cover. Also additionally all the people who have invested in us I want to assure you that your investment is safe, I know it’s taking time to see an output but that’s how it is in game development. You have to wait till the game is ready else it’ll be a disaster and currently the game is not released so regardless of whatever the audience is saying it has NOT failed. I don’t know why people are calling it a failure when it’s not even launched yet. Doesn’t make sense at all.
Anyway, I’m focusing my energies now on building the game but I had to explain my side here especially when people are watching just half or less of this video and forming inaccurate opinions about the game.

I am Pakistani but I am shocked that how much Indians in this comment sections are demotivated, they are saying that a game can never be good if made in India. I want to tell them that it's not about the game being developed in India, rather it's about the people who are developing it, what their aim is, what they are thinking, how big their thinking is about the game and other factors. Their obviously is hidden talent in India but they don't have money to buy powerful PCs or make a studio or hire a team to make the game they have idea of, probably they know how the game development goes. As an indie game dev myself, I would never in my life, would compete or go head on with Rockstar or Bethesda or someone similar, not because I am incapable of making GTA or Fallout or Call of Duty, but simply because the resources they have access to, I don't. So it would be wise to stick to what we have available instead of complaining and just make the BEST game that we can within our limits. A great example is Raji and Fishbowl. 💌

The thing about Lazy is that he admits his mistakes and work upon it, that’s what make him a honest gaming youtuber. I'm also Game Developer. I agree on this. Main mistake was to connect Game Expectations with GTA.
1 Important point missed. Because GTA is multiplayer People already waiting for Mumbai Gullies "Multiplayer" which is not in the plan. Means Mumbai Gullies going to be Single player.
So Nikhil should clarify such things so people will not over expect. Overhyping game is also bad for any game even for Rockstar. so they also take small steps towards marketing. to avoid overhype and deliver actual product.
I similar mistake was done by Rogue Heist PC. still there game visuals was great but after actual testing they decided to not release the game. Don't know what went wrong...

you're totally wrong, india has so much population and the market could be HUGE. If the price of the game is maintained appropriately, keeping it cheap enough for everyone to buy and also expensive enough to gather profits, the game could go huge.
Competing with the global market is 100x harder, do u hear yourself? You'll need a brand new game concept to stand out, heavy marketing expenses, production quality must be maximized to look polished enough for the global audience.

And you are saying the global market is competitive although you are correct on that but quality doesn't matter nowadays any indie developer if their own unique concept is good enough then they can capture market on their own(eg - among us,lethal company,fnaf series,granny series,buckshot roulette,etc)

Indian Devs should focus on indie games as of now.. moreover, I, like many other games have played many AAA games (Being an owner of a XBX console, I had the privilege to play games as old as golden eye 007 and as new as Alan Wake 2 and Suicide squad- thanks to game pass and Backward compatibility) and aisa nahi hai ke Indian AAA games hi aise hai.. aajkal to har AAA game ek jaisa hi aa raha hai (The last AAA game I found was amazing is Elden Ring) Indie Dev's pe thoda zyada dhyan Dena chahiye as they are coming with some really amazing gems... The games as small as 1GB are screwing over 100-150 GB long AAA games.. Games like Venba, Open roads, LKBC are more fun than the AAA games we are getting nowadays.

Why do these developers always go for an open world GTA clone. There are a lot of good indie games with much smaller budget. There’s PUBG(PC Version), helldivers, undertale, stardew valley. They could make a side scroller, Turn based RPG, metroidvania or anything other than open world GTA clone. I guess the problem is lack of creativity rather than budget constraints

Hey bro, a lot of game studios tend to work on teasers, trailers, etc. first to gauge public interest and funding. Testing the waters is very common even in larger AA to AAA studios. There are many terminologies involved. Prototype, Proof of Concept, Vertical Slice, etc. Game dev goes through many stages, including the blue sky stage where everything goes in the canvas, the team throws ideas at the board until something clicks and lands. It's a long, arduous process. We have tech that enables us to do many things, unfortunately replacing manpower (that of Rockstar, Ubisoft, Rocksteady etc) is not possible. We also have good talent, a lot of these big companies are outsourcing their game dev to us only. The issue arises in - 1. public mindset, a lot of people will scrutinize the product for being a 'shitty GTA' without even giving it a chance. Creating hype, fundraising, while also developing the game in this circumstance is a mammothian task. 2. - funding, the outside studios are earning in millions, so when you say (in comments) that other games like AC Shadows, Day Before, Dragon Age or anything else is being criticized, please understand the scope, the state of their home country's industry, etc. Of course those studios should be held to that standard of scrutiny from the public, because they've already gotten into great cashflow states over the years and have a highly impressive legacy to begin their new projects with.
While I agree with your video that GameEon's marketing approach goes on a No-Man's-Sky type tangent by overpromising, or for those older who remember Peter Molyneux (of Fable fame) I do hope they learn from their mistakes and find a compromise between creating hype and staying realistic. Ultimately I'm willing to give the pioneers of the Indian game industry a chance, for they're among the first few who have not only conceptualized, but also raised funds and are trying to execute a grand scale project. Let's see where it goes.

When people like Nikhil try to take that risk and work so hard to change the scenario of the Indian game industry, people just start criticizing and start comparing their work with AAA games that have budget in millions. Its a simple logic, the first few games are not going to be upto that mark, but these games would need support from the Indian audience. You have to understand that the success of Mumbai Gullies would lead to other studios and investors jumping into the Indian AAA gaming scene. But if you don't support such games, it will never happen. As a indie game developer I can clearly say Mumbai Gullies would be better if their plans were clear since the beginning. The lack of expertise and quality can be seen in every single aspect. For such a powerful software like Unreal Engine, it seems like they didn't even try to make it similiar to GTA where some countries like Brazil or neighbouring Bangladesh, they have ambitious developers who takes their jobs properly rather than just making some cartoons casually...
A single youtuber making good physics and animations in couple of months in unreal engine ...indian gaming developer kya developer hai ??

If comparing this game with gta 6, then Nikhil should have known there’s no chance for him at all, leave that even if he compares it to rdr2 which is 6 yrs old it still doesn’t stand a chance, tbh no one did on the launch of rdr2 this game was on next level. Then comes the budget of approx 2 billion dollars for gta 6 and the amount of hard work from those 10000 devs working on the game. Even skill is the thing when it comes to development. He should have started from a basic, instead of calling it “Mumbai ka gta”, he should have said “inspired from gta”. He was able to butter up so many people for these many years, he should have tried buttering Rockstar for little 1% chance of sympathy on him 😂
