This is EXACTLY the info I was looking for. You're a star, man. Thank you. Subbed
Agree with everyone, searched everywhere for this exact info.. nice that it was in 1 simple video. Cheers. Subbed.
Not only this is exactly what I needed, but also I'm surprised to see many people saying the same thing... looks like this information is not out there a lot.
I've been subscribed to your channel for more than 4 years. I purchased my DXS sub thanks to your video 4 years ago. Recently, I've been looking for this exact headphone after I found out the seinheiser 650s fall short in a variety frequencies and you answered my exact question here. I can't thank you enough for your long term commitment, consistency and drive behind the uploads. I have leard immensly from you over the years. You never Disappoint. Never in the video or your prompt comment replies.
Thanks for the kind words Meti. We’re working really hard to be as helpful as possible. I’m glad that the videos have helped!
Brilliant ! No Amp scenario is an absolutely practical thing one faces everyday - and it is indeed a fact that at 80-90/100 volume one gets a good experience.
Wow! Excellent review on the Beyerdynamic 990 Pro!!! Crystal clear
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! One of the best reviewers I’ve seen this far. I’m looking to do music production and editing. I see that you say the 250 Ohms work good directly from the MBP headphone port, but I also have a 2i2. Should I get the 250 Ohms or should go for a lower pair? Ideally I’d like to achieve the same sound when going from MBP to the 2i2.
Honestly, I go back/forth from the 2i2 and macbook a lot and I just prefer the simplicity of plugging these headphones straight into my macbook when I'm editing, gaming, or browsing CZcams.
Wow- great, informative and to the point video!
This has been a great round up and looking forward to more of your videos. I like how you are short and clean to the point. I would like to hear your view on monitors and PA systems. Just an idea.
Good idea. I have many years of experience with PA systems, less experience with studio monitors. We'll see where things go this year. If there is more demand for live events, then we'll shift our focus to live PA. If things are still locked down for a while, then we'll focus on home studio.
the exact headphones im looking at, with the interface ive got! Thanks
Excellent, glad it was helpful.
I think those audio interfaces could be designed to output more from only USB power because the Centrance Dacport HD puts out more than them and it's a smaller device. but it does run a little hot.
¡Excellent video, bro!
One question, do you recommend using the Beyerdynamic 990 250 ohm with a Focusrite Scarlett Solo to listen to music and gaming, or can i use the headphones connected directly to the pc? ¿How much difference is there in terms of audio quality?
This is GREAT information! I recently saw a sale for some DT 990 pros 80 ohms and I was unsure if my blue yeti classic could power those, I say your video and decided to pull the trigger on the headphones!
Nice! Enjoy.
great review... thanks for the detailed feedback!
Wow! Thank you telling me about headphone 250 ohm if I needed external power. You're right...most people posted in CZcams needed external power it's because they probably uses USB to/from computer. For me, I could not find any info in Google and CZcams if my Roland VS2480 will work with Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro for a "250 ohm." Your explanation does show that DT 770 will work with my Roland and other mixers - other than a computer. If I would have heard your video earlier, I would NOT wasted 2 days researching. Lol. Again, thanks a lot.
Quality Video, Straight to the point
Hey, I picked up these headphones and my UR22MKII is working well enough, but I'll probably grab an external amp since I do a lot of VO cutting. Any recommendations for a budget amp that can power them without too much issue?
You sir are a life saver, this is exactly what i needed thanks a lot
Glad it helped!
@@kettnercreative Thank you, sir!
I agree this guy knows what he's talking about and he's humble.
Great review! Thank you
If there’s anyone still stuck on what to choose: If you’re going to be using an interface, amp, DAW or some sort of mixboard or volume manipulation that can increase your volume output beyond the general base volume level then go for the 250. ESPECIALLY if you’re a content creator, audiophile, mixing/mastering, etc.
For other pretty general applications I’d say it’s safe to go for the middle ground (80 ohm) and you’ll get somewhat the best of both worlds by having higher volume and still getting great above average clarity/quality that you can expect from Beyer. Hope this helps.
Thanks man hope u having a great one
Hi, I just got this very model. While one ear works perfectly, the right ear is very very low. I tested it with my TV sound system and my phone and I got the same result. Switching to my regular earphones, both ears worked perfectly.
I'm now a bit confused because I ordered a Mackie Profxv3 which has not come in yet and I therefore cannot test on an audio interface at the moment.
What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is a factory fault or it would work perfectly on my device?
PS: I detached the larger jack adapter and used the smaller jack (3.5mm) to test since my devices enable smaller jacks.
If you tested your headphones on multiple devices with the same issue and your other headphones work properly, then it's certainly a factory defect.
I have a Focusrite 2i2 3 gen AI, and I just bought 250ohm B.dynamics headphones ..What headphone amp or dac/amp would you suggest? ( I have a 2020 IMac 27 inch
Hey, thanks for this, I have a question I am hoping you can answer. I recently bought the 770 Pro 250 ohms and I have a KA6 audio interface. The volume wasn't loud enough for me with this setup, so I bought a PreSonus HP4 amplifier, which sorted the volume issue out, but now I have lost the feature of direct monitoring (without latency) that the KA6 provides when recording through a mic into Ableton. What do you think is the solution for this? Is there an audio interface I can switch to that gives me both the amplifying + the direct monitoring feature in one piece of gear?
Hey man, Your videos are amazing been gaining so much knowledge i didnt even think i needed to know. Anyway, i have a big question i really need answered if possible please. I recently bought DT 1990 250Ohm headohones and i also bought a Scarlett 2i2 (3rd Gen) Audio interface. However i watched your video discussing how i suggest a amp and im not sure what amp to buy and HOW TO CONNECT! Ive been searching and looking forever but cant seem to find anything about my problem so im really hoping you see this bro, would mean the world, thank you and also KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
please reply bro need major help
I really need some advice because I'm completely lost with this problem I'm having:
I just got the DT990pros 250ohm variant and also bought an AMP for it (focusrite solo). Now I immediatly noticed that the low end was way too weak while the high end was overemphazised.
I'm mainly producing underground EDM (bass heavy) genres like hardtechno and DnB so I thought about returning it and getting studio headphones with more emphasis on the low end.
But before returning it I thought: "Hey, let's just plug the headphone right into my motherboard and not use the AMP - and suddenly the sound seemed way more balanced. Like I could actually hear the low end now and the highs were not too harsh.
I have a fairly good mobo (MSI MPG X570) and I'm guessing the onboard soundcard pretty decent. I also have absolutely no volume issues, in fact, when I max everything in windows it's even far too loud.
So currently I'm thinking about returning the AMP and just use the DT990pro's directly plugged into my Mobo.
Hey love your video, but I am having trouble with my 250-ohm DT 990 Pro headset. I am getting no sound from it when i plug in my headset. Could you do a tutorial video on how to set up your DT 990 Pro's with a scarlett 2i4?
Hello, just bought the DT 990 pro's and they seem to sound not very loud on the goxlr mini, what would I have to by as an add on to it so my headphones would work loud enough while gaming especially escape from tarkov where identifying the direction is key while combating. Is there anything that can work in combination with go xlr stream setup?
Hello everyone!!
Can I also connect the beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250 Ohm to my iPhone 6s?
Or is it better to take the 80 version?
I want to connect to both an iPhone and an audio card.
Help me please!!!
I was wondering if my guitar processor (g5n) would work with it, but I think this video cleared it 😊 Thanks!
Hi I would like to buy Mackie Big Knob studio + DT770Pro 250ohms. My question is these headphones for listening to music, where there is a lot of low tones, or rather the sound in this range is flat?
i got the solo 3rd gen and i want to buy this amp.. the quesiton is can i use the amp to mute my headphones with 0 voluem without my monitors turning off as well? i mean solo version sucks cuz i thas 1 knob to turn for monitors and headphones please answer
hi, can i use audio interface for guitar recording and 250ohm headphone ?
how about a guitar amp and 250 ohm headphone ?
tnx
I have an SSL2 and a dt770.. will a behringer ha400 be good enough for the extra push for the dt770 250ohms?
If only you would say there is a better or worse sound quality for the 3 when playing at equal volumes near peak. Tradeoff for experience vs gear interfaces
Nice testing
Are you saying you would only recommend 80ohm (with a USB-powered interface like i have) if your doing podcasts, or also 80ohm for music producing?
so im watching this on 2022 I want to know if there is a good cheap amp that i can use with these headphone?? ive been needing for an upgrade on sound kinda getting tired of the astros a40s
Great content.. Subscribed... Thank you
Thanks for the sub!
Can the dt 990 pro 250 work well with the roadcaster pro also please let me know if the roadcaster pro pre amps are good enough to pair this with and not have hiss, or noise
I use the beyerdynamic DT770 250 OHM with the Focusrite solo interface and the sound coming from them is low, would you like to recommend a good amplifier to use? And do you think if I got an amplifier, the headphones will work at their best? because I a bit frustrated as I just renewed by recording equip and got the new cans so wanna make sure they will work better if I get the amplifier?
You never say what the source is: a desktop card, backplate jack, a X Y OR Z laptop, a lowly usb???? Everyone has a initial impedence and supply voltage. you have no established X to multiply .
is there a headphone amp that you'd recommend for the dt 990 250ohm headphones when using them in conjunction with a scarlett 18i8?
Hey, i know i might be late to this video but i wanted to ask a question. I new to music production and so I'm wanting to get these headphones for the sound clarity they have. I was wondering if later on I wanted to start recording instruments to my daw, would you guys recommend a audio interface with a pre-amp or a externally powered mixer?
My reply to this questions is that you shouldn't be building your setup around your headphones. You have much bigger priorities with your setup than your headphones. I would focus on microphone/interface first, then find headphones that work with your interface.
hello. I would like to know if these headphones are suitable for playing guitar if you connect them to an amplifier? (I have a fender mustang lt25) will there be enough volume or 250 ohms is this a suitable option for such a purpose?
Might not be related but seeing what you did in this review.
I’m trying to figure out if I can use 1 pc and connect a goxlr mini for my vocals and also connect a scarlet solo to the same pc to be able to switch between 2 mics via windows sound settings ?
Yep you can. It’s pretty straight forward. If you’re using a mac, you need to create an aggregate device, but I don’t think you need to on a PC.
Thank you just what I needed just bought the headphones just to listen to music nothing more I am brand new to this from what I can tell the amp is only to make it louder right? For example I just plan on plugging it to my phone to listen to jazz and from what I can infer there’s no real need to get a amp unless I want it too be louder. If I’m incorrect could you give me a heads up it will be much appreciated
With your phone they will be super quiet but yeah they make them louder
for a mix of music and gaming, would you suggest I pair the dt 770 pro 250 ohm with my focusrite solo and my at2035? Or should I go down to the 80 ohm?
80 ohm is good enough for regular use.
Would you recommend Apollo Twin usb with the HD 800 S Headphones?
Thanks this is awesome, and I know I am super late to this video, but I bought the mackie amp and it causes a hum on the audio track, I use it for voiceover and it is so obvious, so I can't use it 😬 don't know if I am doing something wrong or whether it is my unit. Thanks
can i use my astro a40 amp? it has the same type of jack, will that work if i get the 250ohm? i wanna use it just for gaming. would it be better to go with the 80ohm instead?
Hi Thanks for the detailed and precise review for the case if we need an amp or not for a 250 ohm headphone (Beyerdynamic dt 990 pro). I am planning to purchase a headphone for audio editing on logic pro, listening to music or movie would be secondary.
Do I need an amp with Beyerdynamic dt 990 pro in order to do audio editing?
or I should go for Beyernamic dt 900 pro or dt 700 pro?
what did you go for
So I can plug the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro in the Wave 1 and directly into my pc?
yo man, so would the SSL 2+ run them okay for music production ? without cranking the volume knob too much ?
Thanks
We have a video specifically about this if you search "250 ohm headphones ssl2+".
Hi, I just bought some DT770 pro (250) studio cans. Their intended use is for home recording/monitoring. I use them straight into the back of my helix floor. Depending on the preset, I can listen comfortably at around 75% on the
h/phones volume. I haven’t tried using it through an equivalent product 2i2 type, but I’d like to use that for monitoring vocals. Other than that just post edit using a MacBook Pro.
Easy enough question, do I need a headphone amp to do one or all of these things? How would I benefit in buying one?
Great channel, keep it coming.
bro can i just plug and play in my laptop without any audio interface or amp will it run 250ohm one
@@blix570 depends how much impedance your laptop can support
Excellent and fantastic video.
Thank you very much!
Hey, is it possible that my Komplete Audio 1 can power them?
I have the DT 990 (250 ohm) and a Scarlet 2i2. For me the DAC was not enough for the headphones. It wasn't a matter of volume but rather the inability for the headphones to cover the frequency spectrum (I had massive distortion at any sub bass, somewhat bearable at mid range, then distortion again at high frequency). Even my Magni 3 preamp is struggling to power these cans.
Thanks for the comment!
What did you end up getting

hi, I have a presonus studio68, can I drive the 250ohm perfectly?
Presonus 68 Headphone Outputs:
Maximum Power 150 mW/channel (56Ω load)
Frequency Response 20 Hz - 20 kHz (±0.2 dB, 56Ω load, 48 kHz)
Dynamic Range 107 dB (A-wtd, 56Ω load)
THD + N 0.002% (1 kHz, -1 dBFS, no load)
Impedance Working Range 32Ω to 300Ω
Considering DT 770 pro 250ohm to use with my SSL 2 for monitoring my bass recording and mixing. Are they going to work fine?
In my opinion, it's a little quiet while recording - but it works well for mixing.
Do you believe that these microphones can support DT770 Pro 80 ohms without am issue?
This video was very helpful :D I was looking for some good headphones and found a pair of the 990 pro's 250 ohm new for about $130 USD (175CAD).
I'd like to eventually get a propper amp like an atom+, a schiit stack, topping etc later and was worried I wouldn't be able to run them without it.

Okay so what about listening to music on a PC. Would you need a dac amp for the dt 990 pro 250ohm? Or does music sound exactly the same with or without a dac amp?
did u find out?
Is 770 pro 80 ohm compatible with ssl2 or I should buy a 700 pro?
So if I'm getting a headphones amp, how do I use it with my interface? My interface can reach very good sample rate and bit depth. It would be a real shame to have to give that up.
Do I need a mixer to hear or can I just plug it into my quadcast usb microphone
is it okay to not use an amplifier on the DT 990 pro (250 ohm)? I want to buy one and just plug it into my laptop directly. I want to use it for gaming, so I came here to ask you if it’s okay to not use an amplifier.
Hi Kettner, i've purchased a pair of beyerdynamics DT-770 (250hm) a few years ago and i was quite disappointed with the loudness i got from them so i decided to buy a headphone amplifier (Subaj Audio PHA2). Yet still i feel like its not loud enough because when i increase the volume on the amp it starts distorting the audio... Could you please recommend either an audio interface or headphone amp or anything that i could freely increase the loudness on to my liking? Thanks and great video btw :)
I am also looking for the answer to this question. Just purchased the 770 (250ohm) and I am craving more volume!
You guys find answer? I’m about to return mine
@@isaiahmartinez1342 i did a lot of reasearch on this topic Isaiah and honesty if you want something to give you good volume on 250ohm you'd have to pay a lot of money for an amp or interface, and im talking about 600 - 1000 euro... so if i was you i would return the 250ohm and replace them for 80ohm. I got used to my 250 ohms overtime because they have a higher frequency responsivenes so therefore i can understand my music way more. I have a pair of Audiotechnicas that are way lower in Ohms so i make my music on them and i mix and master on 250ohm beyerdynamics to understand my panning and voluming more... Yet if youre stuck with a single pair of 250ohm headphones i would return and swap for smaller ohmage... If you have another pair i would keep them for better mixing but thats just my oppinion :))

@@filiptatarynowicz2560 ?
JDS labs atom amp. 100$ drives it fine.
Idk where these crazy price tags are coming from.
The reason these headphones sound quiet is due to the lack of power in the amp. You need an amp that can drive the headphones or more.
Idk if users are mistaking their issues/terminology. Look into what Ohms, impedence, Amp, dac, balanced audio, rca wiring, etc means.
Anything about 60ish ohms needs a amp to raise loudness. Most mobile devices, laptops, computers etc won't be able to drive the headphones and will be subpar.
Was looking to get these and an amp but after watching this im thinking i might hold off on the amp, thanks!
Yeah, give it a try without first. I find enough volume, generally speaking.

@@i8y8 most likely not, you're probably going to want some sort of dac/amp solution. Even a usb-c compatible one would work, and they aren't extremely expensive. Unless your phone has a headphone jack that's able to give out the power required by the headphones(like something crazy from Sony).

Dt 770 pro 250 ohms work fine with focusrite scarlet 2i4 sound card?
Would probably perform identically to the 2i2 which we discuss here. czcams.com/video/S4nWpyOXuOQ/video.html
I got 250 ohm 990s before I learned about the possible need for an amp- I just run them through my Scarlett Solo when mixing with them. Music is definitely listenable at a decent volume, but the real question is: does the lack of amp change the frequency curve? I really don't get much bass and I wonder if that would change with an amp. I do use a headphone amp to listen to vinyl with these headphones and I think the bass doesn't change much there. I just want to make sure I'm getting the performance these cans are designed for so I can mix accordingly. My other pair are VModa M100 which I mix on the majority of the time because I don't have the same doubts. I want an alternate pair of open backs I can use for mixing and wondering if I need to trade out the 990s for something different.
open backs generally will have more roll off in the bottom end, unless you wanna start spending some stupid money on some planars. I'm absolutely no expert so there may be other options

@@kettnercreative Thanks alot for the response! 💯👍
Should I go for the 80 ohms amor the 250 ohms for the ifi hip dac? Also does the 80 ohms version sound worse then the 250 ohms?
they sound pretty similar, the 250ohm sounds “sterile” in a sense, and the 80 ohms sound a little bit richer. I personally would go with the 80 ohm headphones
This deserves more likes
CZcams is a free market deserving has nothing to do with it. Some people are more popular, no matter how silly they may be or how worthless their 2 cents are. I don't promote people as much as products and I really don't do either. It makes no difference in the life/death equation. And people dying all over the planet by gunfire and brutal warfare is a bit more priority to gaming and listening quality. We are the elite 10% of the world if we are chatting, period. What does a amp and a Audiointerface
how did macbook and iphone get no cons??
Could you recommend a couple amps that will pair with a 2i2 for 80 or 250 ohm headphones please?
Have u found any? U sir are asking the right questions

I did just get a Rolls 4 channel headphone amplifier. I have yet to hook it up tho. Everything I have researched says all that needs to be done is run a TRS 1/4 plug out of the headphone jack of the audio interface to the line in on the amp, then my headphones out the front of the amp. I will be attempting this on friday. I will update you.
@@DG-america thank you so much 🙏 I had the budget and went a lil overboard and just upgraded my interface with an Apollo twin x duo. Hopefully that has a good preamp built inside and if it doesn’t it was a long time coming for me to finally upgrade so found an excuse but I’ll keep u updates aswell lol
@@DG-america update???
Do I need an amp if I wanna connect a pair of dt 990 pro headphones to a desktop pc.
I believe from watchin the vid, itll work fine if u have 80 ohm but for 250 ohm u should get amp but is fine without
@@ElatedElate thank you good sir
@@ElatedElate u the best
it’ll work without an amp but it’s really quiet, so i definitely recommend a cheap amp
Considering doing the same as you typed! Did u ever buy the DT 990 without and AMP?
Was the sound good? was there any problems? Please tell me :)
When you buy a 250 ohm hp, you are paying for the clarity and the sound quality over volume. You can achieve good volumes with other lesser ohm hp too. I wanted to know if there was any improvement in the quality of the sound while you were switching these devices.
Right... clarity over volume! Volume is yet another preference to many though! I've had a Sennheiser HD650 and now BeyerD 990 Pro and it comes down to the same thing... QUALITY but in these examples, Sennheiser was of a more premium quality and texture of materials; nothing else... :)
so if i have the 250ohm 990 pros should i still purchase an amp to connect to my 2i2 or just run it directly thru the 2i2???
@@clumsylol8329 depends on your usage. If you’re going to be using a DAW or some sort of mixboard or volume manipulation that can turn volume up past the general volume given then go for the 250. Otherwise go for the middle ground and you’ll get somewhat the best of both worlds by having higher volume and great clarity/quality.
@@RookieMistakeYT damn looks like i done goofed is there anyway to make the 250ohm sound better on a 2i2 interface i have the headphone vol knob maxed cause it seems like it’s lacking a hair of power
@@clumsylol8329 You can up the dB on your master out as long as it doesn’t distort. Also don’t forget you’re doing that in your DAW. If you’re not using a DAW look into something like FiiO Q3 Amplifier or iFi Hip DAC/AMP. There are cheaper options but I trust those more. If you have to go cheaper look into the LVY Portable Hi-Fi Headphone Amp AA015 (buy new, trust me).
