    I've owned my leica iiif and summitar f/2 for a few days now...These old cameras are an absolute joy to use. Doing street photography with them, they're so inoffensive that people don't actually mind/care when they have it pointed in their direction, compared to my minolta 201, or any medium format camera.
    And damn me if it isn't the most satisfying click I've ever felt/heard in my entire life.

    Hello,
    Thank you for the video!
    I have Leica Standard 1e (1932) with Industar 22 lens in my collection, but camera leaks light by the shutter and springs are weak and slow down, than I use Zorki S (1956) Fed-2 (1959) and Zorki 4 (1968) with this lens and results are really very good in my humble opinion. Industar 22 is my favourite 50mm non mirror lens. It is really sharp, contrasting and does not distort the corners of the image, as other Soviet lenses can do.

    • @robhosailor
      @robhosailor Před 5 lety +1

      PS: I prefer my Zorki S because it is "almost" Leica II - slightly modernized with flash lamp synchrinization, but it is really light weight camera almost as a Leica II rangefinder camera. Fed-2 and and especially Zorki 4 are heavier - last one weights the same as my Kine Exakta II (1949) which is SLR camera with slow time setting mechanism up to 12 seconds, mirror, visor with matte and magnifying glass, which are heavy.

    • @zenography7923
      @zenography7923  Před 3 lety +1

      It's not so easy with a rangefinder - although it can be done it's a lot easier, and cheaper, to buy an SLR for close work.

    Living in a big city there seems to be an endless supply of photo-opportunities. I live in Middlewich (Cheshire) which, apart from the 'photographed-to-death' canals, is brain-liquefyingly dull. I'm toying with the idea of burning down the church just to get some interesting photographs.

    Hi, I bought this vintage lens. I do'nt know what type of mount is this. Mount diameter is 16 mm. I have bought C-EOS M adapter which does not fit at all. It does not typically look like D mount either. Can you help me out please? I guess, I may require a special step up ring 16-25 mm to adapt to C-EOS M adapter and then on to my Canon mirrorless camera. 1.5 INCH f1.9 SUPER COMAT TAYLOR AND HOBSON Lens C MOUNT 16mm Movie. It was described as C mount by mistake.

    • @zenography7923
      @zenography7923  Před 5 lety +1

      It certainly takes a little courage to shoot street, still, practice makes perfect I suppose. I've only had two instances where people have objected: first was in a posh antiques shop in London - in fact, legally speaking any public display can be photographed and they didn't really have the right to object but it wasn't worth the argument, I just politely apologised and deleted the image. Second time was at a car boot sale when I got a very nice image of an older chap enjoying a cigarette - his daughter objected and said it was rude, ill mannered or some such nonsense, but I suspect the real reason was they were up to no good! Same approach on my part - a polite apology and deletion of image. Use this approach and you won't go too far wrong - I hope! Many thanks for watching.

    • @maciekwelk588
      @maciekwelk588 Před 5 lety

      Yesterday I was shooting with my nikon fg and I took a photo of my gf and one man (who was out of focus btw) approached me and wanted to delet the photo because ‚I took a photo of him’. I did have my nerves wrecked because of him so I opened the back and exposed the film, to get rid of him, but no! This man wanted me to show him the photo... he even threatened me.
      Employees at this bar later told me that this man causes similar situations really often.
      In most cases people are really nice, ignore or don’t see the camera.

    Not sure if f16 isn't doing the Industar any favours, or your 1/200 is lagging, but the shots are a bit soft and blurry. I'd be very surprised if it was shooting higher than 1/100 given the motion blur of the people walking, and tbh it looks much slower. I reckon you're getting diffraction from the small aperture and your shutter needs a tweak. Always good to see these old cameras put through their paces, so no criticism of the idea, but something technical is letting you down. The portrait of the woman at 6:15 is much sharper than the rest, so I wonder if you're lifting the camera into position and removing it before the shutter has stopped travelling?

    • @zenography7923
      @zenography7923  Před 5 lety +3

      It's probably a combination of all these factors, plus my use of the sunny 16 rule may not have been perfect! You're spot on with 1/100 of a second - I used it when the sky clouded over or in shady spots. My experience with sunny 16 is fine as far as it goes, but a light meter , for me at least, works rather better. Thanks for watching!

    • @borderlands6606
      @borderlands6606 Před 5 lety +5

      I use Sunny 16 a lot of the time, on my Kiev 4 today in fact. Rule of thumb - normal bright UK weather (not beach or midsummer overhead) 1/250 f8 with 200 ASA consumer colour film. Add a stop for 100 ASA, or shade. Add two stops for 100 ASA and shade. Gives me spot on results across a range of cameras. I only resort to a meter early morning or evening because the eye compensates more than my exposure judgement.
