  • "A Night of Knowing Nothing" the unconventional docu-drama by director Payal Kapadia and editor/cinematopgrapher Ranabir Das won the L'Œil d'or award for Best Documentary Film at 2021 Cannes Film Festival. It was subsequently screened at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was one of the winners of the Amplify Voices Award. The film which is much beyond a conventional documentary captures the youth of our country coming out of various public universities as they raise their voice of dissent. And then there's love, empathy and cinema. The film yet to be screened in India should be availble soon on upcoming film festivals in the country. Here's our exclusive chat with Payal and Ranabir discussing multiple facets of the film. Hope you enjoy the discussion.

It's actually very interesting, being a Direction Student at SRFTI now, I have huge respect for her, her shorts were mainly a huge influence and partly a reason why I choose to apply for a National Film School, her trajectory is also a lot similar to Apichatpong, Who started with a Documentary and proceeding to make his feature debut in Cannes with Tropical Malady, I just watched the film, and was searching for interviews, this was a very poignant and well-conducted interview, Kudos.
