    She went to 23 record companies and got rejected 23 times despite having a finished album she'd recorded herself which contained what would become huge hits. She was told over and over that girls just can't be rockers so she said fuck it, formed her own label and released it herself. That's pretty much what this video depicts.

      Many record executives back then were both snobs and idiots. They thought everyone wanted to listen to Streisand and Manilow. Nothing wrong with that I love them both but younger people wanted something fresh and different. Joan had both of those traits in abundance.

      Made even less sense because Pat Benatar's first hits were in 1979, Suzi Quatro in the early 70s, Patti Smith was already known as the Godmother of Punk by the mid 70s, The Wilson sisters were touring the world also by mid 70s...those are just the ones off the top of my head that came out before Joan tried to get signed.

    I went to see a concert by The Police in April 1982 in Ann Arbor, MI. The warm up band was supposed to be The Go-Go's, but their song Our Lips Are Sealed was doing well on the charts, so they left the tour. They brought in Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in their place. They kicked butt and Bad Reputation was the song they led off with. The next week I Love Rock and Roll hit number one on the charts. Great show and a great memory.

    I'm so happy for you guys finally getting around to this song.
    Bad reputation was definitely a watershed moment for Joan Jett.
    When she and Lita Ford we're playing in the band The Runaways they were turned down by absolutely everyone at the time because an all-girl rock band was unheard of at the time.
    Joan Jett and Lita Ford set the standard for the rest of the girl rock industry from that moment on.
    Even though much of The Runaways music was very sophomoric it still conveyed true essence and meaning to everyone that identified with the music itself.

      @Gerald H Fanny was such a great group. I hope they get a reaction here soon. I've been recommending them for a while. Not a novelty group at all. They could seriously play and write well. They were incredible live!

    • @christianman73
      @christianman73 Před 2 lety +1

      @Gerald H Ahh, ok, I remember that reaction now! It was for a decent song, but unfortunately, by the time Fanny recorded that song and that album, they had lost some original members and were really a shadow of the band that recorded their first four classic albums. I hope that Rob and Amber will get back around to Fanny at some point and actually hear the band when they were in their prime and really rocking!

    • @GenerationXT
      @GenerationXT Před 2 lety

      @@christianman73 No, they didn't lose any members by the time that song came out. The reaction was for the song (Place in the country) which was from their second album (Charity Ball). The member changes you're talking about didn't occur until their fifth and final album Rock and Roll Survivors. One of the big challenges Fanny faced right from the beginning, was the people in charge of producing their material. The band didn't really have full control over the finished product. The result was that some of their studio material was softened up or toned down. Listen to (place in the country) from the live 1971 Beat Club recording session, and you'll understand real quick what I'm talking about. I believe a better song for Jay & Amber's initial reaction would have been Blind Alley. Both the studio and live versions sound really good. But the live Beat Club version is still the preference for me. Another to check out is the live version of (Young and Dumb), which the band did for french TV. That performance is just pure fire.

    • @christianman73
      @christianman73 Před 2 lety

      @@GenerationXT The earlier reaction, which I've seen, that Rob and Amber did to Fanny was to the song, "Butter Boy," which was from their last album in 1974, "Rock and Roll Survivors." By the time of that album, June Millington had left the band, and she was key to their sound, both in the studio and live. Their great drummer, Alice De Buhr, had also left the band before that '74 album, so they were down to two original Fanny members at that point. If Rob and Amber have reacted to another Fanny song since "Butter Boy," I must have missed it. I haven't seen a reaction from them to "Place in the Country," but if they have done one very recently, there is a chance that I may have missed it. I'm a pretty faithful viewer of the channel, but I do miss a reaction from time to time. However, I just did a search for a "Place in the Country" reaction from Rob and Amber, and nothing is coming up for Fanny here, other than the "Butter Boy" reaction. I do like "Butter Boy," but it's not one of my favorite songs by them. I have all of their albums, except for "Rock and Roll Survivors," which I still need to get, and they're all great. I do like them even better live though. They were an incredible live act. I've seen their entire Beat Club performance, each and every song, and even the tuning-up moments between the songs, more times than I can count, because it's so good that I just keep coming back to it. It's one of the best rock performances I've ever seen. I've already strongly recommended the live Beat Club version of "Blind Alley" for a reaction.from Rob and Amber. So many people have recommended that particular version of the song to them that I seriously hope they will check it out and be blown away by it, as we all have been! :-)

    • @GenerationXT
      @GenerationXT Před 2 lety +1

      @@christianman73 You're correct, my mistake. I confused Rob and Amber's reaction with one done on another YT channel. A search on my part first would have avoided this mistake. Anyway - it's good to know you've already seen their live material. If you haven't already seen them, a couple of songs from Fanny's second Beat Club session have been posted. They performed Young and Dumb which was just killer.

It was written in 1973ish but listen to the lyrics, it could have been written about today! You did Patty Smyth. Now you should do Patti Smith, "Because the Night"! When Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize, he sent Patti Smith to accept for him!

    That Joan Jett line "I don't care if i'm strange, i'm never gonna change" reminded of an old Willie Nelson song line "I may not be normal but then nobody is". Always loved that line. FYI you folks need to react to Bonnie Raitt, she's a blues goddess, needs to be on female Friday.

    You both do such an outstanding job providing us with enjoyable reaction videos that I feel compelled to react to yours. The most impressive thing about you is how the love you both have for each other and your family is on display, front and center in every video. Next, not only do you react to great performances, but you also describe your reactions in thoughtful and genuine way. I find that in rediscovering these classics with you, I am appreciating them in new ways since my initial exposure to most of them was as a child or young adult. Lastly, across many videos you both have complimented many beautiful female performers. Allow me to pay Amber a compliment as well as you are a very beautiful young woman both inside and out.

    Back in the 90s, NBC referred to its Thursday night lineup (i.e. Seinfeld, Mad About You, Friends, Frasier) as "Must See TV". Well, that is what "Female Friday" has become for you guys. I love watching the joy on your faces as you recognize all the amazing female musicians, especially rockers like Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, Melissa Etheridge, Pat Benatar, and Lita Ford. This song in particular is as hard-core as any song in the entire punk rock movement, in my humble opinion. Cheers and carry on!!! :)

    I love watching you two rocking out to music I grew up listening to! I remember dancing in my room to this song as a pre-teen and not knowing what a "bad reputation" was - not doing my homework? Forgetting my chores? - but having fun feeling cool, sophisticated, rebellious nonetheless. Another one I love by the iconic Ms. Jett is Crimson and Clover. She doesn't change the pronoun "her" to "him," and for me, that makes the song more authentic and a proud reflection of who she is. Love your videos!

    I saw Joan a long time ago in Asbury Park , New Jersey. People who are around my age (54) and lived in the New Jersey / New York area and listened to rock might remember radio station WNEW FM .
