    Always nice to see family blended into the videos. Neat to see items from fellow U Tubers worn on both farms. George has a lot of good common-sense cow smarts. I learned a lot about handling cattle from a stock-hauler we used to hire. He took his time and kept things low-key...made the job a lot easier. Appreciated it when we had gates set up and if possible animals to be sold, sorted out.

    • @reginabraok939
      @reginabraok939 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@macbaker72In other videos they have said that they buy a registered Holstein bull. They use Artificial Insemination to incorporate other breeds into their herd, Brown Swiss, Jersey, Milking Short Horn for example. Registered Bulls are expensive too and probably doesn't make sense for them to buy several different breeds of bulls to have on their farm and then there would be concerns of housing and safety with multiple bulls, I think AI is a good option for their farm. Thankful for another great video from Gierok Farms.

    Back in the 90s I was attending MSU dairy program and often had time to tag along with the dairy judging team. We were at a 60 cow tie stall barn where they milked registered Holsteins. I remember talking to the own and he said about 40% of the farm income was from breeding stock sales and it was the only reason they were able to keep milking.

    • @MorganOtt-ne1qj
      @MorganOtt-ne1qj Před 6 měsíci +3

      Back in the day, we would have as many as 20 hiefers to sell for replacements to others, some went several hundred miles away. My Dad watched the pedigrees and bred accordingly to avoid inbreeding. He was a stickler for outcrossing.

    I watch Trinity dairy and your channel especially since I was born and raised on a Wisconsin dairy (retired to Southern Mississippi now). The channel I miss the most that I've only seen an occasional video from is the Fink family, Organ Echos farm, from over by Ft. Atkinson. Jersey herd, wonderful Christian family, still making it together on a small "land poor" dairy farm. Lydia has taken the lead in the last video I saw but I'm wondering what happened to Hank that used to be the main you tuber. The old man had a band saw mill similar to yours and had a great sense of humor. I hope they see this post and are encouraged by it. I'd love to see them again.❤

    The fact that you have females to sell speaks well of your care you apply to your animals. My feeling on dairy or beef is it the longer there there The More cows they produce the more money they tend to generate. You don't get that though if you don't take good care of them

    Percentage wise how many dairy farms remain in Wisconsin compared to say 20 years ago?.....30%?..40?. Here in Pa it was a state that was one the 4th largest dairy state is now the 8th and falling fast. And here in Pa and your grade A if 75-80% of your milk is going into Class 1 you need to find something else to do for a living. .

Why don’t you guys try to get them to let you try out a one of those great big Baylor is the ones that make the big bales that are white 3 x 4 x 6. They would stack better in your barn and the bills won’t roll down the hill

    Milked cows for 45 years. So why would you spend time and energy raising heifers to sell ???? Raise only what you need and put all your work to the dairy ( milking ) profits ??? Thats always where the money was for me ! As I always said..... calving in the spring time...green pasture ( rotational grazing ). Money......from the tank to the bank. I always had all the bills taken care of by July 1st. The remaining of the year......was gravy ! So... not the same here in your operation ?
