Theres something about Roy. He makes me wanna laugh before he even opens his mouth. He always seems to be amused and about to burst into laughter. Love this guy!
I'm amused that Trevor Noah doesn't consider himself black enough to comment on American Black culture, so he has to bring out Roy Wood Jr. to do it. But even as an old white guy, I find Roy Wood Jr. very likable and hilarious! And of course, we can learn something while being entertained by these segments.
@@elhoward7440 I think it has less to do with him not being "black" enough and more to do with him not being "American" enough. Would kinda be weird for a South African to pontificate over American black culture in an authoritative manner.

@@calvinmcgreggor1953 Yes. According to the stories written about his life, he played those types of venues. Technically, anyone who was a 'black' artist prior to 1970 would have still played shows in those venues in order to become known b/c civil rights did not go into effect until after 1965. Jimi played in the late 60's after the war. (The Apollo theater was part of this circuit btw, more than likely the 'last one standing' so to speak).

The joke explaining the reason why Gospel singers dance with their hands up hit me harder than I expected 😂
For me it was "...good seats though."

El Howard Trevor always comments on that topic. Plus it makes sense to have Roy dedicated to that topic.

Just read a short biography of Denver Ferguson, the inventor of Chitlin’ Circuit theaters.
That would actually make a good HBO show. ^^
Keep teaching history. Chitlin Circuit another under appreciated African American contribution to US history
D W care to elaborate?
@D W Thanks for your wisdom, professor! Lol.
D W gotchu. I’ll amend my prior statement. “Another under appreciate Black contribution to American history”
