If we compare Schumacher and Hamilton, Schumacher arrived at Ferrari on the back of winning two titles with Bennetton. Ferrari were a complete shambles at the time and he helped turn them into a dominant force. It didn't happen overnight either as it took five challenging years to finally get a title, which then led to four more titles consecutively.
Hamilton went to Mercedes in the last year of the V8s, winning just one race that year. Behind the scenes though Mercedes had been developing a car that absolutely nailed the regulation change to the turbo-hybrid era and continued to deliver him cars that were so dominant that he won six titles in seven years, only missing out on the 2016 title to former teammate Nico Rosberg by five points. Now it's Red Bull and Max Verstappen who are dominant.
Because of how much harder Schumacher had to work to achieve the success he had, I'll put him slightly ahead of Hamilton. For sure Hamilton lucked out by being handed a dominant car, but he still had to drive it and win, so it wasn't like it was a complete cakewalk for him.
From what I've always heard, is that it took some time to get the full Benetton crew back at Ferrari, as that's what eventually pretty much happened: the team and crew like it was in 1994 and 1995, but then at Ferrari. :)
Hamilton only had to sit in a car, where Schumi also helped building the Mercedes car, before he went on retirement forever. I am quite sure Schumi has had more than enough influence back then on the design of the car, I am sure he helped quite a lot with the development of the cars which Hamilton drove after Schumi's retirement.
why not stoick with the truth. schumacher only left bennetton for ferrari because they offered recording breaking sums of money with a promise of hiring 4 of the top men from bennetton whom schumacher didn't want to be without. ferrari won those 5 championships because they invested the money in having 3 test tracks with 3 test teams each, testing simultaneously 24 hours a day 7 days a week. that's the reason they won. no other teams had a test track let alone testing teams. on top of that schumacher's teammates weren't allowed to compete against him.
if there weren't mannipulation of races results sir lewis hamilton would be a 9 time world champion by now. 2007 season was mannipulated to stop him from becoming a rookie champion, 2008 was mannipulated (spa) but he still won. 2021 was mannipulated throughout the season and on the last race (human error) they called it.
schimacher and hamilton are not in the same class. before hamilton entered f1, he forced all f1 personell to down tools and watch him race in turkey 2006. he drove in a manner they had never seen in f1 or any other racing series. he was well known before he arrived at the f1 paddock. he was a star before arriving at f. in comparison, no one knew who schumacher was until he drove for jordan and even then, all the f1 rage was about senior prost mansell. schumacher was anly noticed after senna died on track.

If you can feel every detail in the car and discribe it to the engineers it will push the team forward. Look at Ronnie Petersson with Lotus and see what the personel said. And on the topic of testdriving and driving. You could make a very valid argument about Hamiltons start aswell. He drive 3 times the distance of a season in the upcoming 2007 car in 2006 around the test track. He knew that car better than anybody. He got a lot of experience and while he didn’t race anyone he got to know the exact length of the car. How hard he could push it towards a divebomb etc. But he had also raced people in lower formulas. So even if it was his rookie season he would probably still be the best in that car. And lets not forget he was number 1 at Mclaren. Putting old tires on Alonsos car and then when he gave back the FIA gave him a penalty because Mclaren went nuts about it. So Hamilton also had a lot of things given to him on a silver plate. Does this take anything away from him? No, it really doesn’t. But I want to give another perspective. Because both sides you Hamilton supporters and Schumacher you like to undermind the other driver. And so I wanted to give you this perspective. If you think Schumacher was just handed everything on a silverplate well look at all the other drivers from before the banning of testdriving etc.
Also just a side note I hate formula 1 removed testdriving as much as you want. I think it hinders the sport from becoming as good as it possibly can be and some drivers never get a real shot at F1. Now you need a seat. So I think it’s good Hamilton got to drive 3 times a calander distance in 2006. Hope this might give you another perspective that we just can love the drives they gave us.
@@noto-bs I admire your loyalty to Hamilton but you kind of destroy your arguments by claiming results on some other seasons were "manipulated" in order to stop him winning further titles.
For example in 2007 you have no proof whatsoever that Hamilton was cheated out of the title. Hamilton had the lead of the championship with two races to go but bottled it badly, allowing Kimi Raikkonen to sneak past him.
In 2008 it was recently revealed that Bernie Ecclestone and the late Max Mosley knew about Renault's crashgate escapade but did nothing about it as it was a scandal as big as the spygate one the year before. Felipe Massa wants to challenge the outcome but I don't think he'll succeed because the outcome of one race doesn't determine the championship.
On that note, the same thing applies in 2021. Yes we all know that Michael Masi, under pressure, made a bad call that allowed Max Verstappen to pinch the title off Hamilton, but like in 2008, one race does not define a championship. There were plenty of other incidents throughout that season that influenced the outcome of it.
Finally, it's a bit reckless to say no one knew who Michael Schumacher was until he raced one race for Jordan in 1991. He was well known before his entry into F1 because he raced in Group C, a formula disbanded in 1993 under the pretense that the cars were becoming dangerously fast, but more likely because it was challenging F1 for popularity and F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of Motorsports.
@@noelburland7169 the moderator doesn't seem to like my response but the long and short of it is hamilton led he 2007 championship fro the 4th race right until the last race. there was beef between max mosley and rin dennis. mclaren ws fined $100m and max mosely was exposed frolicking with 7 protitutes dressed as nazi soldiers and his wife left him instantly. mosley's dad was a leader of a fashist party in the uk. mosley banned mclaren from taking part in the constructors championship and their drivers weren't allowed to win the championship either, although they took part.
ecclestone escaped german criminal prosecutors although the banker with whom he carried out an ilegal transaction was jailed. ecclestone anly spoke of 2008 to prevent mercedes and hamilton from going to court about 2021. look at latifi's crash and you will see his rear tyres spinning right up until he made contact with the barriers. in normal crashes, the tyres lock and screech before making contact with the barriers.
as for schumacher, he may have been well known in germany but not in f1 because even a team owner, Eddie jordan didn't know who he was. schumacher was brought to him and he asked him if he knew the track and he responded yes. that was all the conversation they had before he drove for them. as soon as benneton saw him drive, they wanted him and got him. hamilton was different. he announced his f1 entrance in a gp2 race which was watched by the entire f1 pitmane he drove in a manor they had never seen before. a very different class.

To be fair both of them were at the right place at the right time while also being a generational talent. Schumacher only won his first WDC because Senna died, in the same year Senna was out racing him hard, even in the race where he died. Hamilton went on to be the amazing driver he was because he had no real competition. If Senna didn't die and Hamilton had more competition, things would be different completely in F1.

He also had his famous win in Spa controversially stripped from him under questionable circumstances and was disqualified from Silverstone for passing Hill on the formation lap and not serving a five second stop-and-go penalty as a result of it. I am a Ferrari fan, so I might be a little biased; however, I strongly believe Michael is the greatest of all time. For me, he is the ultimate complete driver. He had raw speed, aggressive overtakes, and passion for the sport like Ayrton, and he had incredible knowledge of the car and how to set it up to extract the most from it and an understanding of the sport like Prost. He was the best of both, and combined, they are extremely rare. What he has done in his career is nothing less than remarkable. Very few drivers are able to win at Ferrari, let alone bring them back to winning ways. If we look back at all the great drivers who have been successful at other teams but couldn’t do it with Ferrari, it is astonishing. Vettel, Alonso, Prost, Mansell, and probably others could not win at Ferrari. I am not denying their greatness, but it takes a special driver to win for the prancing horse.
I cannot say 100% that Lewis would have been able to bring Ferrari back to championship glory. I have tremendous respect for Lewis and what he’s done, despite cheering against him. Although he has been in a competitive car more often than not, Even when he went to Mercedes, they were on the rise. In 1996, when Michael went to Ferrari, it was a terrible car. Eddie Irvine even said it was “undrivable.” Yet he still managed to win three races and score 59 points, while his teammate only managed 11. That speaks incredible volumes about what he can do. That’s where I always found a bit of a separator between Michael and Lewis. We are seeing it now at Mercedes. Lewis hasn’t recorded a win since 2021. His teammate even managed to get a win last year in Brazil. I’m not saying Eddie Irvine and George Russell are comparable because George is more talented, but Eddie Irvine still only lost by 1 point to Mika Hakkinen in the 1999 championship when Michael broke his legs, and that’s quite good considering Mika was at the prime of his career. It’s just the principle of the fact that Lewis couldn’t be the difference-maker and his teammate was able to.
Another thing is that Michael was like an engineer. He constantly worked with the guys, and I’m not saying Lewis doesn't, but Michael understood everything about how the car was built and how he could make it more comfortable to drive, which would result in going faster. Lewis has a tremendous work ethic and determination like Michael, but he doesn’t bring that element as much as Michael did.
Lastly, even if Lewis has more race wins, like it said in the video, seasons are longer now and drivers have more opportunity to win races in peak seasons. Also, if we look at a driver like Ayrton, he’s not remembered for race wins or podiums. It’s the effect that he had on the sport that made him legendary. Some people will say Michael cheated and it left a stain on his career when; he has the accident with Damon and tried to do it to Villeneuve, and even though it’s inexcusable, he’s not the first to try it. Prost did it to Senna in 89, Senna did it to Prost in 90, and if Lewis were put in that situation, nobody knows what he would’ve done, but they are racers and extremely competitive, and he likely would have done the same. Also, in the incident with Michael and Damon, Damon was just as much at fault as Michael. There wasn’t much of a gap to begin with, and Damon was desperate to make a move because Michael was pulling away. Michael's legacy in Formula 1 will always be great because of his charisma, hard work, determination, and speed. He has an influence over the sport that very few to none have. That is why he is the greatest driver of all time in my opinion.
Michael Schumacher is better. he would win with weak teams and take them to the top. Hamilton always had good cars and strong teams.

While Hamilton came to a "cowered" table at Mercedes, also he had a winning car in McLaren from day 1. While Michael worked his way up, and was the underdog at both Jordan & Benetton in the early years, beating the mighty Williams team. Furthermore he helped setting up & prepare "The Golden Era" that Mercedes had just gone through from 2014-2021 :)

I think you have good points here. But over ONE lap I would go for Lewis but overall Schumi all the time! That he didnt make it the second carrier is because he was away for three years and that is a LONG time i F1. He also was in a car that was poor, Rosberg did a great job even if they were close. But everybody could see that Schumi gained more speed every year when he learned more about the car. Then the new cars is more about tyremaintaning and not like schumi did in Hungary 98, 60 FREAKING qualifying laps!!! NOBODY else could do that....Schumi was a monster in his first carrier.

Schumacher all day long, Lewis has talent no doubt, but he loses interest when things are against him imo. He doesn't have that fire or fighting spirit we see in someone like Schumacher, Alonso or Verstappen.

hamilton beat fernando alonso his rookie season in the exact same car. fernando alonso, the man who beat micheal schumacher 2 years in a row after one of the most dominant streaks of all time lost to ROOKIE hamilton in the exact same car. sure ham got put in a better car than schumi, but schumi never had the pressure ham did in his rookie season. also if you look at their cars they won in, Benneton 94-P2,95 P1 and then Ferrari P1 2000-2004. hamiltons mclaren p2 2008, merc p1 2014-2020. neither of them have won in the third best car, its always been first or best second

Micheal Schumacher by far... the cars driven by Schumacher and others before Hamilton pitched up were much more harder to drive yet Schumi conquered, as well as fighting for driver safety, he did more for drivers and the sport then Hamilton did. Next future legend Max Verstappen.

Even then lewis gets 9 titel. I think still Schumacher is the better one. Even by his dominance from 2000 to 2004 it still fun to watch F1 even if you already know that he will win. But by lewis dominance it was just boring. Becaus he had no real threat. Go back in schumacher era ther was: Hill, Häkkinen, Räikkönen, Alonso, Coulthard, Montoya. He was surroundet by great drivers and rivals and still came on top. Hamilton on the other hand had no real threat Vettel was to slow with the ferrari or maked to many mistakes and bottas was only there to secure that Hamilton will win.
Nico Rosberg gave Lewis a hell of a time... Yes, he isn't as good as Lewis, but he forced Lewis to be his absolute best, lest he will lose the title to Rosberg. Which he did, at least once. And, yes, I know, he also had bad luck. But that's part of the sport.

I never saw a prime Schumacher 1991-2006 get beaten by a teammate, or rather, I've never seen ANY of Schumacher's teammates ever giving him a fight.
Even in his 40s, 3 years away from even driving a race car on the regular, he came back clumsy in 2010 but little by little he was actually outperforming Rosberg, and Rosberg was someone who beat Hamilton to a championship and gave him a fight in 2 other seasons. Button beat Hamilton on points in all 3 years together and had him beat convicingly in 2011. Russel is now doing the same as Rosberg, or even better actually...
He also went from Benneton who were championship winners for 2 years, to go to the slumps of Ferrari who had yet to win a single trophy for over 15 years back in the day. Revived the team and performed some miracle drives in the 3 years that Ferrari wasn't at it's best between 1996 and 1998. In 1999 he had an injury from a crash that put him out of the season, a season where his far inferior teammate didn't win it by a couple of points... Schumacher came back from his injury and on the very first GP, he outqualified everyone else by ONE SECOND!!!! And when Ferrari finally delivered a car that could legitimately win the title, he overdelivered on all of his titles. 2003 only being his most inconsistent season, but the same applied to Ferrari themselves and the car since it's pace was all over the place depending on the track, not to mention how hot the summer in Europe was that year that affected the Bridgestone tyres more than the Michelins.
Hamilton's only had to fight from the back, in a car that was clearly not the best in 2008, and even then that was mostly down to a race that should've never had any results as it was fixed.
Schumacher had 1994, 1995 and 2000 and 2003. In 1995 he DOMINATED with the 2nd best car. Not just won, DOMINATED!!! People who started to watch him in the 2000s, don't remember how great he was in 1995... The Williams was still the best package overall, and he blew the competition away.
After Senna died in 1994, from that season to 2006, he was the best driver... With only 2003 and 2005 being arguable since Kimi was insane in those 2 seasons. Hamilton can't be said the same between 2009 and 2013... Nor from 2021 to 2023...

You clearly didn't watched Hamilton 2010 and 2012, he was 2nd best driver after Alonso in these seasons, and 2021 still was very slightly below Max. This year too he is the best driver after Max. I never thought there was much debate about this: Hamilton won in Mercedes when Mercedes had the most dominant car/era in F1 history. Schumacher won with anything and against everyone.
Hamilton got beaten over the season by his teammate twice by Rosberg 2016 and Russell 2022 (Note that Russell didn't get any racing points at all in the season before). To the anger of some people, I don't rate Rosberg and Russell both that high compared to "some of the greatest of all time".
Hamilton did great, brilliant driver, best statistics in history; but this was also during greatest domination of a car in F1 history. So he is definitely not the greatest of all time in my opinion.
Hamilton also got beaten by Button if I dont remember wrong. He finished with the same points with Alonso in his rookie year which should be called great. It doesnt mean Button, Rosberg or Russell was better than him. Of course they were not. Hamilton is holding the winning record but the question also starts here. Hamilton's teammates won 45 races while Hamilton was winning 103 races. And Schumacher's teammates won 16 races and 91 for Schumi. People will say Schumacher's teammates helped him win races, lets ask them how many times? And we know 3 of those 16 wins was with the help of Schumi's. It would be 94 to 13. Great video. But considering all things. The only driver with a comparable skill to Michael was Senna. I believe Senna would’ve won in 94 and possibly 95, 96, and 97. For me my top drivers of all time are in order Schumacher, Senna, Prost, then Lewis. And people might wonder why I have Prost ahead of Hamilton even though Lewis has way better numbers. But at the end of the day Prost was the Professor. He beat Senna in equal machinery. He was an absolutely incredible driver. And the reason I have Michael above Senna is because of what Michael was able to do. He left his 2x wdc team to join a 1 win team and managed to bring them back to glory and secure 5 in a row with them. Something no other driver has done or even attempted. That for me gives Michael the edge over the rest.
You bring up an interesting point, People mention that Schumacher had all of these legendary drivers as his rivals, but within a year or two most of them were gone.
-He only raced one full season with Prost, Alain won the title in 1993, did not have a ride in 92 and retired in 94.
-He had one full season with Mansell, who won the title in 92, in 93 he participated in Indy Cart taking that title as well.
-He had 2 full seasons with Senna, in 92 Michael beat Ayrton by 3 points (but Senna had 3 wins and 7 retirements vs Michael's 1 win and 4 retirements), in 93 Senna finished 2nd in the championship while Michael finished 4th. And of course, tragedy struck in 94 three races into the season.
Would Michael have had the same amount of success if Senna were still around? If Mansell had not left? Nor Prost?
Prost is actually the goat. He outscored Senna 186 to 154 points in BOTH years at Mclaren. Prost has also beat ALL of his teammates, five of them being champions, Lauda, Senna, Mansell, Hill, Rosberg amongst others.
Prost also won F1 championships without having the best car, which Senna couldnt do. Prost also lost to Lauda in 84 by HALF a point , having 7 victories in that year vs 4 victories of Lauda. Prost also lost to Piquet by 2 points while driving an inferior car, he should have actually been 7 times world champion according to today's scoring rules.

If there is a GOAT, it is Niki Lauda for stepping into his race car again, 6 weeks after is almost fatal crash, while still bleeding under his helmet during the race.
Also Niki Lauda was one of the biggest advocates for better safety in Formula one together with the legend Jacky Stewart.
Hamilton won all his titles with the best car on the grid, while Schumacher only won 3 of 7 that way. And even then, he took a fair share of making the car the best of the field, while Hamilton just sat into it.

2008 and 2018 are years in which Ferrari looked to have the better car over the season imo, and while it’s true that Lewis didn’t do as much for Mercedes’ development as Schumi did for Ferrari, it’s also true that Merc knew they were going to have a title-fighting car and decided Lewis was the man for the job, poaching him from a highly competitive McLaren.
Niki Lauda once said that they picked Lewis on account of him being the best driver in the world.

While Schumacher was only beat by Rosberg in Mercedes (half-retired Schumi), Hamilton lost against Button (2011), Rosberg (2016) and Russell (2022). Nevertheless, Hamilton teammates includes world champions like Alonso, Button and Rosberg.
Schumacher had a 3 year old break from F1 before returning to the sport, that is a huge gap. Alonso in 2007 was barely at equal status with Hamilton at McLaren, unofficially Ron Dennis made crystal clear who was No1 driver on the team at that time.
Schumy performed and outperformed in various teams. Lewis always was in the best car. Not saying hes bad, but he was blessed with the best machine.
Correct Lewis has never had a car that's not top 3 material. Schumacher, Raikkonen, Alonso, Button, Vettel and Verstappen are all champions who earned their way up the field so to speak
Why is it always necessary for people to knock down on Hamilton's achievements? The best drivers go to the best teams. It's that simple. If Mclaren didn't see anything in Lewis when he was young then they would not bothered to sign him early on. Same goes with Verstappen and Red Bull. I get that a lot in this comment section are Schumi fans, but don't rationalize either being greater than the other because of their respective team/car.

Schumacher was exceptional how he build Ferrari with his people he brought from Benetton, but there is something Hamilton did what Schumacher never did:
He beat 3 world champions in his own team and dominated everyone else who wasn’t a world champion
He was beaten by Rosberg (who became WDC as a result, he never raced against him as a WDC).
Nico Rosberg wasn't a world champion... until he beat Hamilton to it in literally a 2 horse race season. That's more of an anti-feat for Hamilton actually. His 2007 season was amazing, in fact, he was more deserving of the championship in 2007 than he was in 2008.
Schumacher did what Hamilton has never done. Win the championship with the 2nd best car overall. And he did it twice, in 1994 and 1995 and you could even argue 2000. In 2008 the only reason McLaren didn't win the constructors was because of Kovalainen's averageness, while Ferrari had 2 top tier drivers in Kimi and Massa back in the day.

Jim Clark was a 2x World Champion and won every single race he finished. The only times he didn't win, was when his car broke down, but he was always in the lead of the race when his car broke down. He has a 78% win rate and if his car hadn't of let him down again, and sent him into a tree head on and killed him, then he would of went on to win multiple more World Titles, and considering he wasn't driving the best car, like Lewis Hamiltons Mercedes was, makes his achievements all the more remarkable. Fans don't know it or don't say it because of favouritism, but the vast majority of actual drivers say it, even the late great Fangio said "Jim Clark was not just 1 class above me(him) and everyone else, but 2 or 3 or many more levels higher". That's high praise from one of the GOATS, who was a 5x World Champion himself. This video is so Lewis Hamilton friendly and biased towards him, that when they say things like, in 2016 Lewis didn't have the luck lol, what really happened was Rosberg beat him fair and square with absolutely no luck involved. Schumachers achievements are better than Hamiltons, Lewis always says his hero is Senna, well Schumacher raced Senna and was beating him by a good distance in the championship when he sadly crashed and died. Lewis is unquestionably a GOAT, but he is not the GOAT 🐐. Schumacher went to a Ferrari team that were nowhere near winning a title, and hadn't in decade's. Where Hamilton went to Mercedes, but Rosberg was qualifying high up at the top of the grid. They were too hard on their tyres and fell back places, but Mercedes were well on their way up when Hamilton joined. Remember that team won the 2009 World title with Jenson Button in the then called Brawn GP, and that was the very next year after Hamilton won his 1st title in 2008. The difference is huge, if you're being fair and objective, unlike saying Lewis blew Alonso away, even though they ended on the exact same points and Alonso didn't race in 3 races that season, for various reasons, but I think if anybody blew the other away, it was Alonso that blew Hamilton away by finishing with the same amount of points, but took 3 races less to do it. Plus that was the year McLaren was found guilty of stealing Ferrari intellectual property, and the McLaren team were disqualified, but the drivers got to keep their points, which was a head scratcher to me, and Hamilton won his 1st title the next year, with McLaren knowing all Ferrari's design secrets and still Hamilton only just beat Massa and Ferrari by a point. Although there was controversy that season too, as Renault CHEATED by telling Nelson Piquet jr to crash on purpose, which allowed Renault to win the race with Alonso. That race should of been voided and the points deducted, as the result was manufactured, and that would of seen Hamilton and McLaren lose that 2008 championship. I know Hamilton had nothing to do with the cheated race whatsoever, but equally, he shouldn't of been allowed to benefit, just like Massa would of and should of not of benefited from it. That's why for me, it's Jim Clark all day long. He has the highest win ratio and was in an inferior car, and he never had all the gadgets and overtaking tools like DRS and ERS boost, and never had an engineer in his ear telling him what Delta to be on and where hes gaining or losing time and he certainly didn't have flappy paddle gear shifters on his steering wheel, the only thing he had on his steering wheel was a spanner taped to it incase the car broke and he had to take the steering wheel of to get out😂😂, not like the steering wheels of today that has a computer in it that is 1,000 times more advanced than the computer that they used when they went to the moon. A pair of goggles and that was it, and of they went. The safety of the cars nowadays is vastly better, thankfully, but the cars were way harder to drive back then, they didn't even have power steering for gods sake, but that's what separates the good from the great and the great from the greatest, and it's a lot of different things that you have to add into the equation and it's the whole package that makes you a true GREAT at anything, but most importantly, there was NEVER ANY CONTROVERSY WITH JIM CLARK!!! He was just an absolutely amazing racing car driver and an absolute true gentleman inside and outside of car. A proper hero and person to look upto, always polite and well mannered and he never used any tactics that were illegal or cheating or just ungentleman like. He drove quickly but he always drove fair, and was of the opinion that if you're good enough to win, then you'll win, and let the best man win. How things have changed nowadays and not for the better either.

Michael was brilliant no doubt. But he wouldn’t have won seven without Sennas death. You can’t say that about Lewis. And Lewis was robbed of an eighth title by a biased Australian man. He would have had two more if not for Mclarens disastrous decision making in his rookie season, and his engine blew up in 2016 when he had everything under control that season.
I would like to express some unpopular facts. In my opinion Lewis is a better driver and Michael is a better leader.
Starting off with Michael, as you said he's an incredible driver. His aggression, determination and ruthless driving style wasn't matched by any other. He did incredibly build the Ferrari team, but they weren't that "struggling". When he joined Ferrari, they were the 3rd best team and had unlimited budget and resources to work on. What I dislike about him is that his lack of sportsmanship, as we all know his dirty moves in 1994 (including the questionably legal car) and 1997 will forever be blackmarks in his incredible career. Also, the team was primarily built around him. Not only building the cars prefering his driving style, he even had access to his teammate's contracts. Imo, Rubens was the best wingman ever to exist in F1 (better than Valtteri). In my books, he never won a championship in an inferior car, he had the fastest car in 94, 95, 00, 01, 02, 03 and 04 (may be not in 03 I'm not 100% sure).
While Lewis was destined to become the most complete driver ever since his karting days. His incredible success story is second to none. When he joined McLaren, he performed better than the 2-time regning wdc Fernando in the same car. If not for McLaren's strange tyre strategy in China following the spygate controversy, he would've became a rookie wdc. In 2008 he somehow outperformed Massa in an inferior car to become the wdc. 2nd year at Mercedes, he had a dominant car and I get it. But it wasn't easy on him, he had a teammate who could challenge him, unlike Micheal had. After 3 years of tight title battles, major regulation overhaul in 2017 put an end to the Mercedes dominance. According to The Race, Ferrari had a better car during both 17 and 18 seasons. But Lewis managed to bring both titles. Although 19 wasn't that special, Valtteri hanged on with Lewis to the title until the US gp. 20 was the only season Lewis had it easy. Despite he had an inferior car and suspicious FIA decline, he did an excellent job to give Max a hard time in 21. Comparing win, pole, podium and other's ratios, Lewis has the advantage over Micheal. Even in 23, being 38 years old, he finished 3rd in the WDC with the 4th/5th fastest car. According to James Allison, their success from 2017 to 2021 was primarily came through Lewis, he chose a risky development path that eventually resulted in 5 championships. Those who say Lewis has done nothing except driving are unaware of these factors. His current determination to bring Mercedes back to glory further proves his greatness. Fans would never appreciate him until his retirement.

Michael joined Ferrari to help them out of their slump and go back to their winning ways. He succeeded. Lewis, on the other hand, jumped to Mercedes and got carried by his car that Michael helped the team develop.

I think one big difference is how they started in F1. One by chance in a middle pack team, the other in a top team and title contender. That is a massive difference as to get into a top team many drivers have to spend a few years in their carriers to even start winning races. And that is what Schumacher had to do in comparison to Hamilton. If Schumacher started in that McLaren of 2007, o boy, probably would have won that championship, and the next one. That is a massive difference when entering F1. Alonso had to drive a Minardi at the start of his career, spending a few years in middle to back field teams.
There are two drivers in modern F1 that started first year in the best team and title contender car, Hamilton and Jacques Villeneuve. And we can see the difference between the two, right?
For me, Schumacher is the best I have seen driving a car in F1. And he stuck there even with the FIA trying to implement rule changes here and there, qualifying format, race formats, tire rules, re-fueling rules, as to avoid him being so dominant as soon as he got his second championship with Ferrari. (Fangio, for me is there two as the best, if not first, second at most as he drove in an era where is you make a mistake was often too common that you would have been killed),
Schumacher is really something out of the ordinary, even when you look at how he managed to pull some wins in a situation where no other driver would have been positioned, like Hungary 3 stops in 1998 and France 4 stops in 2004.
Lets be real here, Schumacher's team mate wasnt allowed to pass him when he was at Ferrari.

This season it's even in qualifying and Lewis is beating Russell in the championship, and although Russell has had far more reliability issues with his car, but even putting that to one side, it's still 1-1, Russell beat Lewis last season and Lewis looks like he's definitely going to beat Russell this season, so it's even. That maybe isn't regularly, but Lewis isn't beating Russell regularly either, which is a huge surprise to everybody, since so many people call Lewis the GOAT. Lewis is the most successful, but that doesn't mean he's the GOAT, and I don't think he is the GOAT, he's not even top 3, probably top 5 but even then there's a few drivers with as good a shout as Lewis.

Everything in Formula one isn't always as it seems, in fact very rarely is it as it seems. The amount of politics that goes on behind the scenes is enormous, like when the hybrid era started, Mercedes designed an amazing engine/power unit and because they did the best job then they deserved to win. However, down to all the politics going on, Mercedes got a regulation changed to only allow manufacturers 3 tokens per season to try and make their engine better, which is impossible and you seen that the next season when Red Bull clearly had the best car on the grid, but Mercedes could just drive straight past them on the straight. That regulation that Mercedes got changed was because Red Bull had won the previous 4 world titles with Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes argued that for the good of the sport, they needed new winners, but all that happened was the rest of the manufacturers weren't allowed any time to upgrade their power units and with them regulations in place for the next 5 years, basically handed Mercedes the championship for all those years. You see now without their outrageous power units, they aren't able to build and design a car capable of dominating like the did before the new regulation change, and who is it shouting the loudest that f1 needs to be more competitive 😂😂😂only Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes, that certainly were NOT saying that the season before. Three drivers for being the best overrated e.g., Schumacher, Vettel, and Max have in commons:
1. Perceived or being hyped by many as the GOATes when their team dominated the Sport (F1).
2. Never have a top 3 drivers as teammates while they dominated the oppositions and their teammates.
3. Granted Privilege No. 1
4. Once upon time they get champion material or at least decent teammates, they get beaten or even dominated overall.
5. Their fans will come with tons of EXCUSES and Myths the like of Mojo lost, lack of motivation, ageing catching up, injuries encountered, being some years away from F1, etc. when their idol show subpar performance (getting beaten or even dominated by their teammates in future). It is a reality in check for any overrated drivers.
What puts Schumacher ahead for me are his early Ferrari years. In 97 and 98 he gave Williams and then McLaren a fierce fight over the title despite clearly having the worse car. And in 99 when McLaren was still better only his injury stopped him. Also his years with Benetton, again not a dominating car, were outstanding. And only three of his Ferrari titles were without a challenge. In 00 and 03 he had to fight great cars and drivers for the title.
Did he play dirty from time to time? Yes. But name me an alltime great who is completely innocent.
Hamilton on the other hand has his first championship on the table. Which is a big one, beating Alonso with the same car. And he lost that one year to Rosberg. But not only that, in 2011 he got owned by Button. Schumacher was never beaten by his teammate in his prime, except in 99 because of the reason mentioned before.
Hamilton gets named because he has as many titles as Schumacher. But he owes them much more to Mercedes than Schumacher owes his to Benetton and Ferrari.
When Hamilton moved to Mercedes they were already developing a monster of a car. Schumacher on the other hand pulled his teams upwards.

I was starting to take interest in this channel until you mentioned LH's complaining about when the car's not working in his favour without mentioning how he's endured driving a tractor for 2 consecutive seasons, helping Mercedes gather up information to make their upcoming car better & still serving the sports with impressive races through out his most challenging seasons. By the way, they're both greatest of their own eras.
Prost won 7 titles with the current points system. He also beat Senna convincingly in terms of points won across the season. Prost is the best IMO.

It’s just personal preference. I love them both and they’re equal to me. The only way to find the best ever driver would be to give them the same car, equal opportunities and resources and race them against each other for like 5 seasons and average out the results…. And since no one’s going to do that we’ll never know 😂 F1 is about the car AND the driver and how they meld together. It’s a beautiful thing. There’s too much nuance and complications to compare drivers and it just sucks the joy out of the sport. Everyone should just have their option and be merry :)
