  • 1968 Cutlass is being transformed into a BEAST!!! Unlike most builders the owner of this ride insisted on keeping the Oldsmobile engine.

    Chevy in a Olds is a no no! Everyone loves the GM LS series engines but their not for my Oldsmobiles.

    The 403 is also a wonderfully over-square design. The worry is in the strength of the blocks windowed webs. Some say it does not guarantee failure and can make respectable power in street applications. There are a few companies out there that sell girder systems for the main caps to help reinforce the block to reduce concern. The other issue of the stock head are too restrictive and the compression is low ,however the reciprocating assembly is strong and for a price any engine can make power.

    400 Olds. There were two versions that I am aware of; 1965-67 (early) and 1968-69 (later). the later versions were under-square 3.870" bore X 4.250" stroke. They make good torque but are slow revving. The early 400s have 4.00"bore X 3.980 stroke ,their over-square design enables them to eagerly rev higher. Some say 7000 RPM is possible. They were found in many models ,most notably the 442. Can easily build a monster motor out of one.

    I have a clean 85 Cutlass Supreme Brougham with the original 231 Buick V6 that is getting swapped for a soon to be modified 350 Olds ,vintage 1970.
    I was going to go with a 455 because there seems to be more of them available near me at the time I was looking but I found the 350 core for dirt cheap.
    Maybe I should build a 455 as a back up engine?

    Nice engine , I to have a 461 Olds in my 1964 F-85, does not look has pretty has yours. Sam Smith I agree with you, I never met Joe Mondello but build my first Olds engine using his books. And yes if you have an Olds put an Olds engine in it.

      @samsmith3553 Před 8 lety +1

      +david Anti Illegals I have a Thumpr cam and my 461 olds made 511hp on the dyno and I have did a few more upgrades and am putting out 600hp so I don't think you know what you're talking about (455 olds dyno run video)

    • @davidsnova
      @davidsnova Před 8 lety +1

      Sam Smith It's a proven fact that the Thumpr cam is all for sound and you are an idiot, that's two facts.

    • @samsmith3553
      @samsmith3553 Před 8 lety +1

      +david Anti Illegals You're an idiot you don't know shit about olds motors or any cams for that matter what a dumb ass!! I just proved it because my motor makes 600hp

    • @davidsnova
      @davidsnova Před 8 lety +1

      +Sam Smith Howards, Isky,Lunati ,Comp xtreme 276hr,290hr any of these will out perform the Thumpr cam. The thumpr has too much lift and duration on the intake side less on the exhaust, makes for great sound but takes away from compression . The Comp Xtreme has more lift and duration on the exhaust than on the intake side plus builds cylinder pressure for more compression = more power more tq. I have been building olds engines and racing them for over 25 years so that makes you a liar . Also you haven't a clue about what it takes to make 600 h.p. with a 455 using procomp heads and a shitty thumpr cam with street compression under (11.0:1 ) No Nos, no forced induction,can't be done. Carcraft built one with Edelbrock heads high compression roller cam and 850 carb performer intake and got 469 h.p over 600 tq. I built one With the same cam they used before they did , same heads ported and a Street Dominator intake and made 540 h.p and 630 lb ft . You have no tricks , no numbers and no proof that you made anything more than a turd , so shut the fuck up asshole.Oh yeah, keep posting shit , I need a laugh every now and then.

      +david Anti Illegals You're a dumb fuck I worked at the GM Lansing plant from 1968-1974 I worked the assembly line and the olds motor assembly division and have built more olds motors than you could dream of. Owned my own speed shop for 41 years knew Joe Mondello personally RIP I know more about a olds motor than you will ever know! you don't know shit. I have built motors with many different cams and piston configurations I know what I am doing and how to make HP. Yes I do have tricks as you say I have been doing this way longer and know more in my pinky finger than you will ever know so you shut the fuck up. Oh the motor in my video has Edelbrock heads not Pro Comp!!
      (DUKESTUBE sorry for this assclown on here trying to talk like he knows what he's talking about it's the ones that try to talk the most shit that know the least and for that I am sorry.) Nice motor!
