"Johnny" Missing Phrase Showcase

  • As documented in an earlier video, I've known about "Soul Doubt" gaining a phrase between games for years, but I unexpectedly discovered a case of the opposite thing happening in "Johnny" tonight. When played on GHWT, the song contains 38 phrases. This total drops to 37 in GH5/WoR because two phrases in the first chorus combine into one.
At first, I just assumed that this change must have been some sort of accident or quirk stemming from how different GH engines interpret the chart. After sharing this find with the Discord, however, parz suggested that changing "Johnny" could have been an intentional decision. Upon rewatching the video, I noticed that the 37-phrase version adds a comma after "me" and decapitalizes "you," fully bridging the two phrases into one cohesive unit. This lyrical change is what convinced me that the chart actually was updated on purpose. And to be fair, the other choruses do have "don't ask me, you don't wanna know" as one phrase even on WT, so really, the imported chart just makes it more consistent.
But of all songs to update, was anyone really clamoring for "Johnny" to receive a touch-up? Plenty of worse charts exist, and this song is otherwise one of the least relevant pieces of DLC in the console GH library. I would have preferred to not use band footage for the WoR chart to better show the streak, but there is not a single video of somebody singing this song solo on CZcams. Until now, I guess. That just goes to show how little people care about this track, lol. Proper credit for the WoR FC should go to MidniteRidr2.
You may also be wondering how I noticed that these charts are different in the first place. That's an entirely fair question to have, but don't ask me -- you don't wanna know.

It's a good change, especially since it makes the chart consistent with the other choruses. I just found it interesting that the chart had received a change in the first place. Situations like this one fascinate me for whatever reason.
