Did you know how broken the Mush Badges are? (M&L:SS)

- Look at how fast the final bosses are defeated with them (and they aren't even at maxed power)...
Note that I'm around an average endgame level here (low 40's). These badges are broken even at much lower levels though, as long as you have multi-hit attacks and a decent number of mushrooms.
As for why I have so many Ultra/Max Mushrooms, the Ultra Mushrooms were farmed with the Game Boy Horror SP (Sworms drop them, and this late in the game the battle should be won instantly with a first strike, so circling around Beanbean Castle while fighting all enemies should give you them very quickly), and the Max Mushrooms were bought right before recording this using the money I collected from the last few areas of the game (and some sold unlimited-quantity enemy-dropped equipment, such as Boos' Random Slacks). (To quickly exit Bowser's Castle, I suicided to Fawful (if you have Swing Bros. Advance, use it to steal a Golden Mushroom first (reset if you get a 1-up Super instead)-- it's the only way to get more than 4, which is also why I didn't save after Fawful) and chose to restart from Beanbean Castle. (Yay for nested parentheses?))
How the Mush Badges work: each normal/Super/Ultra/Max Mushroom you have increases the damage of every hit done by the brother wearing the badge (including Bros. Attacks) by a certain amount, with the exception of attacking an enemy with something they highly resist (Troopeas resist hammer/hand attacks, Glurps resist jump/hammer attacks, Jojora resists everything). It's unaffected by 1-up Mushrooms, 1-up Supers, and Golden Mushrooms.
The damage addition from the Mush Badges also varies between the American and Japanese versions. (Not sure about PAL.)
I apologize to anyone who'd have preferred to read the Fawful text-- I've played this game so many times that the text gets boring for me (and I restarted this recording a few times due to taking too much damage against Cackletta). I know there are other videos of that battle if you are interested in reading the text, anyway.
Despite having played this game so much, though, I almost never succeed at hitting more than once with Knockback Bros. Advance (the problem is that it just doesn't get unlocked on an ordinary playthrough for me). I still attempted it here because it didn't make any significant difference-- Cackletta's heart would have been defeated after two Chopper Bros. attacks even if Luigi never attacked it.
On a random side note, I think Fawful would have been better off with Cackletta's first battle theme instead of Popple's battle theme.
Oh, the game is Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga if you didn't know what the acronym stands for (the game title is in the tags as usual, but not sure how many people check those anymore). - Hry
To be fair, if you got smacked in the face 11 times with a massively oversized metal hammer i dont think you'd survive either.
Especially if said person wielding the hammer has a badge that makes him hit harder the more -drugs- mushrooms he has stuffed in his pockets, suitcase and backpack...
Oh, and don't forget that one guy who made his entire run max power and max mushrooms.
Alexsis Crow especially if your power is derived from what you have most: -Magic Mushrooms- steroids in the form of mushrooms.

Wow Chugaaconroy wasn't kidding when he said the mush badge was broken.
Aquamarine you can say that again
I forget what they're called, but Partners in Time has a kind of badge that has the opposite effect, by ramping up your power based on how little your amount of Mushrooms is. It's riskier as it means you can't heal, but it's so overpowered that if you sell all of your Mushrooms and fight Princess Shroob, all it takes is one decent trampoline to kill her in one attack.
It's called the Risk Badge.
The Risk Badge is much better in my opinion, not saying because it is stronger or anything, but because: You don't need a lot of mushrooms to be stronger.
That is just like some kind of "skip a enemy" because while you heal yourself, you deal high amounts of damage.
Blued Mario150 It's a lot easier to become OP with the Risk Badge since you can just sell all your Mushrooms. PiT is extremely easy to break.
Sell all mushrooms and buy nuts.
Mush Badge AA no nuts, there are mushroom drops
Thanks for the tip! Before seeing this I thought of the Mush Badges as pretty much useless, I guess I was wrong.
Typhlosion4President huh its you
you just have to farm mushrooms
You need to stack up a load of mushrooms to get this broken. And preferably use Nuts to heal.
Why did you think they were useless?
@@wariolandgoldpiramid Probably a case of thinking it gives a small boost rather than a significant one.
That's the most reasonable way of examining the badges in my eyes.
Fun fact: the bomb that comes in after 'defeating' Bowletta is not actually an insta kill, and my first play through the game I had ground up enough levels that Luigi just tanked it and got eaten alive
Fawful: "I HAVE FURY!"
Mario: "But-a my mush badge!"
Fawful: "YOU HAVE FURY!"

Fawful: "TOO MUCH FURY! AHHHH!"
I s e e y o u e v e r y w h e r e -
And i recognize that profile picture too-
I bet these badges are called "Mush Badges" because they make the Bros. able to turn their enemies into mush, and not because of mushrooms.
UPDATE: Over 1,000 likes?! Never expected one of my comments to get that many likes.
Mariostar75 ur wrong, in Mario & Luigi Paper Jam, the DEF Mush jams is relate to mushrooms as when u eat a mushroom ur DEF stat goes up.
Dude, it's a joke. We know it's actually related to mushrooms.

By the way, in the Japanese version of the game, Fawful does indeed have Cackletta's first battle theme instead of Popple's battle theme.
Don't know why the English version has it like this, though.
Maybe the localizers though Rookie and Popple's battle theme made the battle more dramatic?
CrimsonDarkness SS The game came out in the west before it came out in Japan.
Evnyofdeath Whoops. In that case I can see why Fawful uses Cackletta's battle theme in the Japanese version.
CrimsonDarkness SS Yup, the Japanese version changed a lot of minor details since it came out after. The roulette for stat boosts when you level up? In the US version there is no indication you can change what stat you're boosting. If you watch Chuggaaconroy's LP he'll tell a story where he boosted ONLY HP because of that. This was fixed in the Japanese version where they added a prompt to let you know you can move the roulette.
+KarjamP Fun fact, the Mush Badges were nerfed in the Japanese version too.
been watching Chuggaaconroy`s LP of this at the moment, boy he wasn't kidding when he said the Mush Badges are so OP
Wow me too I was watch chugga"s series on this
Lord Oshawott Oh, is that why I'm suddenly getting an absurd number of comments here? Did he link this video as an example?
Zeldara109 Not that I know of, I think people were just interested in how op the badge could get.
Zeldara109 CZcams algorithm sending us all here, I believe. I came here merely as a suggested video and also was curious due to Chugga's comment. about it. Lucky you, I guess.
Zeldara109 He just talked about how OP the Mush badge is.

You are really clueless.
Take a joke, everyone.
Wooooooosh
They should make a 3DS remake of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga!!!
Not just that though. Partners in Time and Bowsers Inside Story. Becasue all three of those games didnt use the 3d option.
@Slendertale 3D wouldn't help the DS games... Dream Team's attacks were designed to use 3D, with frequent attacks that involve moving toward/away from the screen. The DS games' attacks were designed to use the two screens as if they were one tall screen, and the lower screen (which is where most of the action takes place) isn't 3D anyway.
Bringing 3D elements would be amazing for a remake. I mean, look at Metroid Zero Mission! It may not be some sort of 3D remake or anything, but it added tons of new stuff that some previous games featured that wasn't on the original, exactly what I'm aiming for if the there was a remake of Superstar Saga.
Dog TTR Sky Pink jirachi or shenron or genie from Aladdin:your wish is granted
I bet Dog TTR Sky Pink works for Nintendo...
honestly can't get enough of this game..
Something tells me that if you had the max amount of mushrooms possible, 2 AA Mush Badges, the Great Force, and Red Peppers you could easily beat Bowletta at level 1.
Not that you even could do that, but...
Not yet, at least. This game has some pretty major skips, but they rely on the hammer field moves, which come after forced EXP from some Goombas and the bosses up to Chateau de Chucklehuck. Also I think activating travel to Bowser's Castle involves defeating Popple & Birdo in Teehee Valley.
Not sure if Red Peppers would even help at level 1, though? It depends on if they boost damage or the POW stat (since your POW is probably low enough it'd be entirely blocked by Bowletta's defense even if doubled, meaning all the damage would come from Mush Badges). I'm sure Great Force doubles damage after everything else, meanwhile-- even enemies that only take 1 damage from all attacks (e.g. Jojora) take 2 damage with Great Force.

She is. Just that there are so many ways of breaking the game, that doesn't come into play if you do it. She took TWO Chopper Bros to beat...

kinda funny how the game is actually able to handle some of the bosses being vaporised.
Wow, I guess the Mush Badges also make you no longer interested in reading Fawful's dialogue. ◕︵◕
Alex Franklin Get me the fuck away from the mush badges then.
Remind me to only equip them after I whooped the game's ass too many times to count...
And remind me to murder Jojora if possible.

Jojora is immune to every attack
@@theinfamousguil Jojora was given max defense (999) in the original game but has only 50 hp. in the remake her defense was toned down to 240 but she now has 500 hp
When i was a kid, i actually managed to break the game on my own. I gave literally all the level ups into POW, farmed the Hoolumbian (bean blend that increases POW), gave Mario the Great Force (item that doubles damage dealt and taken) and got a shitton of Red Peppers from Game Boy Horror SP. Add Luigi's Thunder Bros (decreases defense) to all of that, and the endgame was a cakewalk. I didn't know about the mush badge back then, but oh man would it just tear shit apart.
I also got used to doding attacks pretty quickly, and i played this game so freaking much that i still remember almost every single enemy attack pattern. Can't wait for the remake to come out, i wonder if my strategies will still work haha.
Fawful has fury!
Awesome man! You need to keep up the great work!
These badges helped me easily beat the game, and I was severely underleveled because I sucked at Rpg's back then.
CZcams just Reccomended me this and it shows the time when alpha dream was not declared bankrupt still making Mario and Luigi games, before the Nintendo switch came out, and Mario and Luigi brother ship was announced
Buy them in Little Fungitown. The standard Mush Badge is available as soon as you get there, while the Mush Badge AA is only available after Joke's End.
Haha, wow! That is really an effective way to defeat Bowletta. I had no idea that badge would be so effective! :)
Fawful: I HAVE FURY!!!!!!!
Mario: well i have a mush badge AA!!!!!!!!!
Luigi: and i have one too!!!!!!!!!
Fawful: I HAVE CONFUSION!!!!!
Mario: the mush badge AA greatly boosts attack for every mushroom we have!!!!!!!

Fawful: I HAVE HEARD ENOUGH!!!!!! *YOU WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!*
after about a month of this video randomly appearing in my recommended i have decided to finally watch it
Can we all agree that cackletta has the best theme, talking and the battles?
Too OP... Bought them after first time in fungi town, bought 99 shrooms, 99 supershrooms and 67 ultrashrooms... Every 2nemy you hit in overqorld dies instant... cause bonus ring (2x Exp) you lvl up so quickly, cause every boss just needs one chopperbros attack...
Man.................I forgot how good the music is in these games.
I'm so glad they are remaking this game. Brings back so many memories.
I played this game so much I was in the 80s in terms of level, and I could one shot cacklleta any day with just a regular move, with or without mush badge
Heck, I got 99 of all non rare mushrooms just to deal max damage, and great force
I never used the mush badge at all and I had so much trouble with Cacklettas Soul (I used GBA4IOS too lol) and now I realise that I definitely should've
I also love this video because it looks so broken when you use chopper bros
Holy crap! MUSH BADGES = OP
this game is so goddamn good, the gameplay, the story, the soundtrack, the sequels were decent but there is just something that made them feel worse in comparison.
God help us if the mush badges are back in SS+BM
TepigFan 101 they are so have fun
TepigFan 101 only 1 available. Can't buy it. Also sponsored by nerf
If either luigi or mario have enough health as the time-bomb explodes, you'll actually survive the blast, but still get inhaled by bowletta.
Some Impersonator Really!? Wow I didn't know that, I thought it was instant kill no matter what.
Some Impersonator How much health do you need?
I believe it's scripted to "kill you" so you can settle things with Cackletta once and for all.
No matter what you do, the bomb goes off once you damage her enough. Just before then she usually glows black and starts a star storm attack unless you're too strong and fast, like here.
***** About 320
I used these badges too. At around level 55 with maxed Mush AA, Mario was dealing 350 damage per jump. That's enough to one shot every single boss except Cackletta.
Yes, they are really broken. 99 Mushrooms + Mush Badges + Great Force got me through the endgame at level 32 or so. Each Chopper Bros dealt over 600 damage, meaning that Fawful/Bowletta fall in one hit; Cackletta's Soul in two.
It's August of 2017 and this is just now appearing in my recommended.
thank you ive only just got the second piece of beanstar and didn't want to have a hart fight when I get to cakletta's soul
I had mush badges with 160 POW (but barely 100 HP), and the great force. I one shot every boss (except cackletta's soul; I messed up chopper and knockback bros), and I one shot enemies when I step on them to initiate battles. Even the magikoopas and the shy guys with the cannons.
With the Soul's eye laser attacks and the buzz and the freeze in time, I keep thinking it froze there. O-O
mush badge AA + chopper bros+ great force= saitama
ONE PUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH!
God I love those Minish Cap style GBA sound effects
Whoa those badges are SO OP
It's even better when you use the item that doubles damage from E. Gadd.
Add a first movie equip item, have 99 of each of the healing mushrooms (the 1-ups dont add to damage) and 1-shot the whole game.
One of Cackaletta's attacks stops time.

Level 3 Bros. Attacks are just memorizing timing, possibly with the help of the colored auras. Practice them on normal enemies-- coins and syrups are common enough that BP refills aren't an issue.
I think I tried them around Gwarhar Lagoon in my first playthrough, and I could do most of them consistently by the end of the game (and note that I was not very skilled at video games back in 2003). Still not consistent at level 3 Swing Bros. or most of the Advance commands though.
This game was my childhood
Fun fact, Luigi's Thunder Bros defence decrease side effect actually lowers enemy defence more when you don't perform the full attack, I almost always only perform the 1st button command, and after that smack the enemy with an Advance Chopper Bros, any enemy susceptible to the defence drop dies in 1 turn, bosses included
Indeed. It's silly that failing the action command is more effective at lowering defense (of a single enemy, like bosses) than completing all action commands. Apparently it outright sets the enemy defense to 0?
I wonder if the game intended it to be reversed? Perhaps they tried to set the defense reduction to vary by command, but mixed up the formula (reducing defense to 0% instead of reducing defense by 0%).
HOLY CRAP youre underleveled.
Did you use a Dazzle? I like the quality despite being filmed on the GameBoy Player.
how do you get mush badge AA? i checked the shop in little fungitown and i see mush badge only.
Have you cleared Joke's End?
Zeldara109 no
Chopper Bros. in itself is gloriously broken. If you can mash the buttons fast enough and have high enough stats, you can pretty much ace just about anything that stands in your way.
The level 3 Bros. Attacks certainly didn't hurt...I never could get the hang of those.
when I played this, I didn't kill every enemy... so I barely did any damage and only had two moves advanced
I'd say it's normal to not have many advance moves on the first playthrough, especially if you don't know how they're unlocked. The last few Bros. Attacks don't have many bosses to use them on-- you basically need to farm up uses on normal enemies.
Destructionduo1 I used guides to figure out how to get advanced moves, and in RPGS it a habit of mine to fight every battle. So throughout the game, this was my strategy: Every battle, use nothing but bro moves (unless they're already advanced) and then once I have the advance, I practice it a bit. I had all the advances (Excluding the secret ones) around that crab boss.
I actually didn't know what advanced moves were my first play through. I thought it was a normal boost to the attack itself (like you did the attack enough to be good at it, here is some free damage). I had them unlocked, but I didn't realize that they were different move sets. (Also, I always played on 3, so I never noticed the extra indicators.)
sounds like me in partners in time, didn't fight enemies and spent way to long on bosses as a result
Destructionduo1 well i have all advantages now and i am not even at the snow area
Yes, and I'm really hoping to see it on the 3DS in the near future.
The Game Boy Horror SP is the reward for making all 7 types of bean drink at the Starbeans Cafe (requires 70 Woo Beans, 35 Hoo Beans, 35 Chuckle Beans, and 35 Hee Beans). Hoo Beans are rather rare until the Koopa Cruiser revisit after Joke's End, but if you know where the invisible blocks containing them are, you can collect 35 as early as Gwarhar Lagoon, possibly earlier.
There's mushroom for improvement here...
The Mush Badges are available as soon as you reach Little Fungitown (without the +25 power of Mush Badge AA, but same Shroom Force formula), which still allows them to be used for Beanstar piece collecting and the last two areas.
Though in a low-level game, you wouldn't exactly have as many mushrooms (or coins to buy them). Still rather broken though. If I ever do a challenge of this game I won't use Mush Badges (or possibly try a default equipment challenge instead).
The music for fawful tho. Amazing

Just asking but how do you get the mush badge AA (and how did you get 2 of em)

I wonder if the mush badge will be this broken in the remake?
And this was without even combining it with the Great Force.

You Should Do the Battle Again With a red pepper on Mario as well as him having the great force equipped
i had no idea these things existed
This can even be done at around the 30s levels. Without even the A or AA versions of the badges.
I never worry about Mushrooms because when I level up I have one instinct: HP, DEF, HP, DEF.
Cool vid
Oh, and low-level runs of any M&L game are extremely tedious if you're going for minimal EXP gain (as opposed to only winning mandatory battles), since finishing a battle with only one character remaining results in less EXP, but you can't use your special attacks with one character remaining.
As for outside statistic abuse, that reminds me of Final Fantasy 6's Traveler (damage based on step count, usable by Strago/Gau/Gogo). Do you mind explaining why this Final Fantasy 8 system is broken?
3:17 GET IN MAH BELLEY!!!!!11
Wonder if they'll keep this in the remake?
I lived this game so much.. I barely remember it xD
I could go SO LONG with Knockback Bros. when I was younger.
Like, I would go for over 5 minutes and miss on purpose out of boredom.
Also to be fair even going into the final battle at level 30+ helps. When I "speedrun" through the game I'm usually at level 35 or so.
Level 50 is overleveled anyway. This video was intended to show it's overpowered even at normal endgame level, with only the mushrooms and coins (spent on mushrooms) found throughout the game.
Actually, it's overpowered even with only standard Mush Badges at speedrun levels (nothing defeated except bosses and Teehee Valley enemies). It's because the mushroom boost is added to every Chopper Bros. hit, resulting in insane damage from even a moderate boost.
Every rpg has a batshit weapon that lets you kill the hardest bosses easily.
Where and how do you get the mush badges?
How you get these Bros. Attacks like Cyclone or Swing Bros???
Hammerhead Bros. house in east Beanbean. After obtaining the Super/Ultra hammer, break the rocks to the right. You can then challenge a Thwomp to randomly find them. (If you save first you can reset if you guess incorrectly, to not lose coins.)
I need to replay this game
In Final Fantasy 8, magic is treated essentially as expendable items, and it can be allocated to various stats and whatnot in order to superpower your characters. Higher tier spells are obviously better for this, but due to the side quests and item drops available to you even in the early game, it's quite easy to have your party completely dwarf the opposition for the entire playthrough. It's considered to be the easiest FF to perform a low level game with for these reasons.
It's an obvious reference. Especially since you receive the Game Boy Horror SP from E. Gadd in this game.
The Game Boy Horror SP causes most enemies to always drop a certain (sometimes rare) item, though, which doesn't seem to relate at all to Luigi's Mansion.
I love the attack at 4:56
Quick question, how do you get the mush badges?
Sorry for asking (I've never played this game..) but what do mush badges do?
The more mushrooms you have, the more damage you deal. At the start he showed his inventory full of mushrooms, allowing him to do massive damage and make quick work of the hardest bosses in the game
god, i remember when i first played, i didnt know i could move the curser when you leveled up. so for the entire playthrough, i only leveled up my HP.
