BACKGROUND
Countdown is the channel’s longest running show and the first show ever broadcast on Channel 4 when it launched 40 years ago, in November 1982. The original version of Channel 4's Countdown is the French television programme « Des chiffres et des lettres » (literally "numbers and letters"), where the Numbers Round is referred to as « Le compte est bon » ("the total is right"). The show debuted in 1965 as « Le mot le plus long » using letters only, and reached its present format in 1972. This year marks the shows 51st anniversary.

SPIN-OFF
"8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" is hosted by Jimmy Carr, with Rachel Riley and Susie Dent assuming their Countdown roles. The formation of the crossover with "8 Out if 10 Cats" began as a series of specials, the first of which was broadcast on 2 January 2012, when Channel 4 orchestrated a special "mash-up night", merging two shows to form a special edition of the pair, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations eleven years ago.

I love it when I figure it out in 5 seconds and neither contestant gets it. Of course Viraj never misses seems like.
Gonna miss Viraj, I loved those 6 smalls.
What a machine
Counter name against The Font (and The Silencer)
Consistent tactic of All Small numbers, sticking with the font & typography theme, and putting on a damn fine show throughout ...
The Fine Print
728 = (9*9 + 10) * (6+2)
What is a fondutas?
148:
4 * 10 = 40
40 + 9 = 49
49 * 3 = 147
147 + 1 = 148
652:
100 / 25 = 4
4 + 9 = 13
13 * 50 = 650
650 + 2 = 652
Anyone know how far in advance these are recorded?
I know that it is several months for the 8OO10C version; not sure about these here. I was on a different gameshow, and it aired two months after recording.
652:
75 * 9 = 675
675 + 2 - 25 = 652
75 / 25 = 3
9 - 3 = 6
100 * 6 = 600
600 + 50 + 2 = 652
50 * 9 = 450
450 + 100 + 75 + 25 + 2 = 652
For 652, I got it this way
9*50=450+100+25+75+2
Did anyone else get this?
Just got to not fear the numbers. 728 - just think 9 x 8 is 72 and going in tens 90 x 8 or 80 x 9 and needed one extra 8 - so 91 x 8. 9x9 is 81 add 10 = 91 x (6+2)
652=9×75-25+2
Shame the recorded audience doesn't seem too enthusiastic with the result.
oh look, the puppies got a day off !
Are you talking about her tits?
728=(6+2)×(9×9+10)
745=(8+2)×(7×10+4)+5
652=((100/4)+9)x50+2
728 = (9x9+10)x(6+2)
yes, my way - looking for 90x8 and adding 1 for that extra 8
In the first numbers round, I saw Viraj's solution and also had this:
9 x 9 = 81
81 + 10 = 91
6 + 2 = 8
91 x 8 = 728
But I think those are the only two viable solutions.
In the second numbers round, I saw the contestants' solution, of course, but also had this:
100 x 9 = 900
900 / 75 = 12
25 - 12 = 13
50 x 13 = 650
650 + 2 = 652
And if you want to go into five digits with it, you can do that as follows:
100 + 9 = 109
109 x 75 = 8175
8175 x 2 = 16350
16350 - 50 = 16300
16300 / 25 = 652
The logic of this solution is that since 75 / 25 = 3 and 50 / 25 = 2, that the equation reduces to (100 + 9) x 3 x 2 - 2 = 652.
In the third numbers round, I saw Viraj's solution, but I assumed that his solution would be the following instead, which I found more intuitive:
10 x 8 x 2 = 160
160 - 7 - 4 = 149
149 x 5 = 745
And I also had this:
10 x 8 = 80
80 + 2 = 82
5 + 4 = 9
82 x 9 = 738
738 + 7 = 745
In the final round, I saw the contestants' solution and also had these:
9 x 3 = 27
27 + 10 = 37
37 x 4 = 148
10 x 3 = 30
30 + 8 = 38
38 - 1 = 37
37 x 4 = 148
10 + 9 = 19
19 x 8 = 152
152 - 4 = 148
9 + 8 + 4 = 21
10 - 3 = 7
21 x 7 = 147
147 + 1 = 148
728: 6*9*10 = 720 +9+2-3
Oof, I was not ready... 😮😳😍
For?
The gorgeous hair and dress
She's always beautiful but something about this outfit is just absolutely stunning
I think it's the hair. The hairstyle with the dress really captures that rustic look.
148:
9 + 4 + 1 = 14
14 * 10 = 140
140 + 8 = 148
10 + 9 = 19
19 * 8 = 152
152 - 4 = 148
9 * 3 = 27
27 + 10 = 37
37 * 4 = 148
