France sang in french all the time....sometimes adding a british couplet.....but still ...countries singing in english (and not being english/irish) should have a malus point..easy mode.

    • @Kapok-Bush-TdK
      @Kapok-Bush-TdK Před rokem +3

Exactement !
Dereck le constate : "She gives you what U want."

    Iconic from my childhood.
Winner (the last for France) of Eurovision song contest and a big hit.
She has a very sweet voice, that's why she used to sing for cartoons or tv shows for children.
This song became a classic, still learned in schools.

This song made me learn French… still know all the lyrics by ❤️ .. some 15 years ago I had the chance meeting her person and she was really down to earth and very kind.

Not the only song winning for France (France won 5 times in total), but the last one for sure. This song turned Marie Myriam into a one-hit wonder, and she never managed to reach success again. She is still known nowadays as "the last French winner of Eurovision".
In 1990, Joëlle Ursull was ranked #2 with "White & Black Blues", written by Serge Gainsbourg himself (he also wrote the 1965 winner for Luxemburg, "Poupée de cire, poupée de son", sung by France Gall). In 1991, with Amina's "C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison", France tied with Sweden at 1st place, but new rules introduced to decide the winner gave the victory to Carola's "Fångad av en stormvind". In 2021, Barbara Pravi was also ranked #2 with "Voilà".

    Paroles
    Viens allumer mon soleil noir

    Lyrics in english
Like a child with eyes of light
Who sees the birds passing in the distance
Like the blue bird flying over the earth
See how the world, the world is beautiful
Beautiful the boat, dancing on the waves
Drunk with life, love and wind
Beautiful the rising song of the waves
    Abandoned in the white sand
White the innocent, the blood of the poet
    Who by singing, invents love
So that life dresses up in celebration
    And night turns to day
Day of a life when dawn breaks
To wake up the heavy-eyed city
Where the mornings strip the leaves of the dreams
To give us a world of love
Love is you, love is me
The bird is you, the child is me
Me, I'm just a girl in the shadows
Who sees the evening star shine
You, my star who weaves my circle
Come light up my black sun
    Black misery, men and war
Who believe they hold the reins of time
Land of love has no borders
For those with a child's heart
Like a child with eyes of light
Who sees the birds passing in the distance
Like the blue bird flying over the earth
We will find this world of love
Love is you, love is me
The bird is you, the child is me
Like a child with eyes of light
Who sees the birds passing in the distance
Like the blue bird flying over the earth
See how the world, the world is beautiful

The song was released and charted in the Uk. It had the English version on one side and French version on the other. Sometime when a song likr this is rewritten as it wont translate literally it can suffer but this didn't the English lyrics were equally as lovely. The live version for the contest is slightly faster than the studio version which is less dramatic but more soft and bluesy. This is because of the rule that every song can only be 3 mins long. Plus the live orchestra gives it more drama.

I think there's a problem with the comments section... sometimes I see all the comments, sometimes nothing, sometimes only my own comments 🤔
I hope you won't have problem with CZcams's referencing.

There are soo many great old Eurovision songs. I think you could like Joy Flemming (Germany 1975) as well: czcams.com/video/EDf9XX_p1mA/video.html

    Hello *Dereck,*
This song takes up the principle of the very famous "Jeu du marabout," intended for children to develop their vocabulary.
"Le marabout" is a mind game. It's a question, from an initial expression, of constructing a sequence of terms or a sequence of words whose first syllables correspond phonetically to the last of the preceding expression. It's also a nursery rhyme that takes up this principle and whose the French lyrics begin with: *"J'en ai marre, mare à boue (phonetic pun with "Marabout" whence the name of this game), bout d'ficelle,"* (Literally: *"I'm fed up, pool of mud, piece of string,"* of course it doesn't work in the state in English. But we could try: *"marabout, boutiquey, Kay Largo, Largo Winch, Winchester, etc."* for example).
Even if it's still a lovely song, I think it has aged a little poorly (the orchestration). Besides, I didn't remember its tempo was so fast. In my memories, the song was going more "crescendo."
I specify I deliver this opinion, whereas the song isn't finished yet (3:45). So, I don't know what Dereck will think about it (?).
In any case, thank you for this new reaction to a French song that won Eurovision (we're still waiting for a recent victory which doesn't want to come, lol).
Have a pleasant day, folks. 🤗

Eurovision became a very political contest. Slave country vote for their neighbours, etc.. A song in French doesn't interest a lot of countries. The artistic side is no more important. So many songs are no good. It's my opinion
