- Hello everyone and welcome back to the channel! In today's video we are stepping away from the ae86 project and are going to continue fixing my Honda Helix ( CN250 / Honda Fusion / Honda Spazio ). For those new to the channel, I recently purchased a Honda scooter 250 cc also known as the CN250 or the Honda Helix in the states ! I purchased this Honda Helix 250 from an auto auction website known as Copart. Copart deals in salvage rebuild vehicles but also have a large collection of damaged/totaled motorcycle and scooter in their inventory! I think this will make a great new series for the channel and will help document my journey through a DIY Copart salvage rebuild project.
This video will focus mainly on addressing some lingering body issues with the Honda helix scooter 250, as well as performing some basic maintenance, the honda helix oil change . I will go step by step through the process of a Honda Helix oil change This is a DIY scooter restoration project that I hope to give a little JDM flair. Once completed the Honda Helix will be on par with all the Honda Fusion builds in Japan!
It may not be an ae86 trueno coupe but the Helix is another JDM icon worth saving. Also, its super fast and fun for a 250cc two wheeled machine!
The Toyota Corolla ae86 project is still under way and we will be getting back into the swing of things after this video. We will continue to shave the ae86 engine bay and prep the ae86 build for final assembly and paint.
As always, stay tuned for more updates to come on the project ae86 and now the salvage Honda Helix diy scooter restoration project

17:55 talks about air ride suspension
20:00 promises more vids on air ride
20:28 sneak peek of the actual air suspension he's installing
Thanks! I love the Helix & even though at 74 I'm still riding a 660cc mono Yamaha MT03, I wouldn't mind ending my two wheel career on a Honda Helix once/if I reach 80 😁😁😁
You got this! Pick yourself up a helix!
ONLY dealers recommend they sell you that oil. It is illegal for a maker to tell you "their oil" is any better because it is not. The service manual says Honda 4 stroke 10w40 SF, Sg or equivalent. All SN, SJ oils today are superior to those early oils from the 1980's in detergency, heat tolerance, pressure, anti corrosion etc.
Wow, thanks for another great Helix video. If you remember I've commented to you on your others ones since I am a Helix owner too having owned my pure red 1996 model with 22,000 miles since 2018 after I retired driving 800 lb monster 1500 & 1800 Goldwings back in 2004. I bought the Helix in good running condition but needing some overdue general maintenance performed so I replaced the whole CVT with all new genuine Honda parts with the exception of 21g Dr. Pulley sliders in favor of the stock 23g rollers, flushed and replaced all oil, brake, coolant & final drive fluids, replaced the tires, installed a new intake manifold, air filter and bystarter, I used Mobil 1 75-80W for the final drive fluid in place of multi weight motor oil, and don't forget to replace the fuel filter which is so many times overlooked but inexpensive to replace to always insure trouble free operation as I now consider it 100% road worthy without being hesitant to drive it anywhere. The body panels are all still showroom quality but I did opt to refinish my stock fading muffler with good results using high temperature Rustoleum 7778 Bar-B-Q black finish from Walmart and used a silver painted accent on the heat shield since I couldn't locate a stock chrome replacement one for the look I wanted, and it really looks awesome. I really appreciate your videos especially this one with several different areas being covered, I've been really a bit occupied lately but hope to begin doing my own videos starting late spring. Keep up the good work!
Yes I remember, thanks for tuning back in and commenting! Hopefully you can post some vids on your helix soon, we all need more helix content 👍I'm glad you like the videos, more to come soon and thanks again for tuning in 😁
Yes. Do more maintenance videos!!!
found you with a honda fusion oil change search. this is exactly what i was looking for and wanted to thank you for posting! VIVA HELIX ✊🏽
New subscriber, just wanted to say I found your channel because of the Helix. I too recently got my 2004 and am doing a lot of the same maintenance as yourself..so I'll keep following the Helix content as long as you keep posting it 👍

ha these videos keep popping up in my recommended. the saga continues! I'm trying to pick one of these up before winter to do a little cruising.
Do it man!! They are worth it!
Loving these videos man! Can't wait to hear from you again, I got an ae86 as well and your videos really motivate me to put all the effort in it 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Awesome, thanks for commenting! I am glad you like them! It's finally warming up so I will be putting in some serious work on the ae86 soon. Also, air ride on the Helix in the works, but I got a little sidetracked with another 2 wheel project lolol 😅
@@TheBSRecord Hahah your love for bikes is definitely noticeable, can't wait to watch those ones! The Helix is looking soo cool already, good luck man! 🙌🏽
@@wla91 thanks man, I appreciate that!
I love the Japanese custom scooters.
Thanks, me too! Hope you enjoyed the videos 😁
Just subscribed!! Your videos are very informative and great! I just bought an 04 Helix and I'm trying to do my own maintenance work myself. It's very intimidating when you don't know where anything is. Can you do more videos on changing coolant, gear oil, belt, air filter, clutch pads, anything carb related, headlight bulb removal......anything Helix related...lol. Your vids are so easy to understand.
Thanks for tuning in abs commenting! I will definitely make some more Helix content in the future 👍
Great job. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Killing it bub!
Thanks bub!!
Good work on your Honda Helix CN250.
Thanks for always tuning in man! 🙏🙏
@@TheBSRecord No problem. Cheers from Chile.
Can't wait!
Thanks for watching! 👍
@@TheBSRecord I have a chance to pick up a 2001 with the 3 wheel conversion, anything I should be on the lookout for? any areas to look fot damage?
You know that no motorcycle co. makes oil, and ANY auto 10w40 is correct. There is no wet clutch in scooters so don't be taken in by marketing. Valvoline 10w40 Max Life has one of the highest film strengths of any oil, higher detergency and seal conditioners as do the other max life type oils. This info is from an auto motive engineer who tests oils heated to operating temperature on a computer controlled Tribometer. SJ oils do range from 65,000 psi before metal to metal contact while others reach as high as 123,000 psi and all with the same classification of SJ. Wet clutch compatible oils are not at all needed in bikes that do not have wet clutches. The wet clutch problem stems from back when they reduced the clutch spring strength to attract more women to riding, it worked. Some guys restore the spring strength of their bikes and then don't have problems of clutch slipping on regular oil and not having to buy over priced "motorcycle" oil that has a viscosity index improver left out that can sometimes cause clutch slippage with the weaker lady springs.
Lots of good information here, thanks for sharing 👍 Honestly I don't know much about motorcycle specific oils, but I decided to go with what Honda recommended in the manual. Thanks for tuning in and commenting 👍
keep the helix videos coming!!!!!!!!
Will do, ad soon as I get the Elite 150 done I'll be swapping back to the Helix air ride!
With the new front bracket you can now give a double thumbs up to the aftermarket body panels for $179.00.
Where did he buy the body panels?
From a company called webike in japan.
Agreed 👍
Most bikes have to sit on their wheels when checking the oil level, not on the center stand. Check your owners manual. 👏🇳🇱NL, Transalp with many mods.
Thanks for tuning in and the tip! I'll check it out :D
Send it looking forward at your jdm build!!!!
Thanks man! More content to come soon 👍
Hey man, I bought a 2007 Helix from a guy in Lawrenceburg and drove it all the way back home in Cincinnati. Love that bike. If I could get a little more top speed out of it, it'd be perfect.
Nice!! What speed did you get to? I came from a 50cc so the Helix was a huge upgrade in terms of power. With that being said, I completely understand what you mean!
Parking brake won't disengage, any suggestions to get to release ?
Yes, press the foot brake really really hard! I had the same issue when I first got mine. I had to adjust the foot brake a little once it was freed up. The adjustment can be made under the main bottom middle plastics if I recall correctly. Google search the cn250 service manual, it should be in there. Hope this helps!
Where did the new body pannels come from? Starting an Elite 1985 rebuild.
Sorry for missing this comment, but they are from a website called webike 👍
Excelent video ! I have a problem whith temperature panel , saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷
Thanks man! I hope you get your problem resolved!
Do all honds helix use the same motor oil? What motor oil does honda recommend for a 1996 honda helix?
bro how can you help me get the body panels or can you help me with the contacts of where i can buy the complete body panel because mine had an accident and all the body panel was crushed

How did you end up mounting the spoiler? I just purchased new body panels from webike and it came with a spoiler and light as well.
Nice! It's been a minute since I did it, but I think I had to drill the holes. It may have already had the cutouts for the bolts though, I don't remember. I do know there were two metal brackets that the bolts screwed into and it "sandwiched" the spoiler to the rear fairing. Hope this helps 👍
Ich fuhr mit meinem Helix 140 000 km ohne Werkstatt . Alles selbst repariert . Die Graphithülse im Auspuff muss man ca alle 7 bis 8000 km austauschen . Gruß aus Germany
Hey fellow Helix owner where do you order your part from? Your body kit and maybe where to buy an exhaust.
Japan.webike I buy my aftermarket parts too as well for my forza300
Did the new gasket help with the poppy backfiring on deceleration? I've been having the same problem with mine. Thanks!
Yup it helped a lot! It seems to be a pretty common issue with the helix. If the gasket doesn't help look at the air cut off valve on the carb. It may have pinholes in it.
@@TheBSRecord Sweet, thanks!
What does the fuel pump look like
How Helix can be a touring scooter if an oil change is every 1200 miles? Realy so often?
Looking at a '86.. with your experience, do you think I will have an issue with parts?
The Honda Helix was made for a very long time, so part availability is plentiful at the moment. Go for it!
Do you have any videos on cleaning the carb?
Unfortunately no, but the next time I clean the carb I'll make sure to video the process!
Hey nice work. Do you think a 10 hour drive would be to much I don’t think so but the guy I’m buying it off of said it is it has 10,000 miles on it original owner 2001 very nice condition.don’t have a truck planned on driving it back if I buy it with my wife in my car following.
Without seeing the bike or knowing it's true condition I'm not sure how it will do on that sort of trip. However, if it's in good working order, properly maintained, and we'll kept it should make that trip no problem. I would hop on my helix and ride it anywhere without thinking twice. The helix is a very reliable bike if its taken care of! Goodluck!
@@TheBSRecord thanks it’s mint according to him original owner older guy
@@TheBSRecord I seen six pics on ebay
Hello, where can I buy this rack bracket? I have this problem in my unit.
You can still purchase these new from Honda :D Hope this helps!
Hello
I'm asking for help
vibrations occur at low engine speeds. just before it reaches 0 km.
there is no vibration when accelerating.
Everything has been changed + the clutch
Does it die out? A little vibration getting close to 0mph or even slowly accelerating from 0mph may be normal. Mine vibrates a bit on take off. Do you hear any squealing? Has the carb been cleaned? Maybe an issue with the idle jet? What is the idle rpm set to?
@@TheBSRecord rpm 1700
only when reducing speed, just before stopping. shaking
I'm thinking of replacing all the front shock absorber pads.
as well as engine pads

How to change headlight???
Gee... don't roll it over trying to drain the last few 11:34 drops of oil..... might bend the front panel support bracket.!😅
Hahaha, we were all good. Precision at its finest 🤣
I want to buy one but am in Ghana 🇬🇭 west Africa how will I get one ???
Not sure 🤷♂️ hopefully you can find one!
I'm on my third helix a 2007 "the last helix. I got two words for you. Your nuts. Is that a cfmoto fusion spazio ?
It's not everyone cup of tea, but I'm going to enjoy it 😄 thanks for tuning in!
@@TheBSRecord You misunderstood, I love my helix. And my Reflex and my shadow. I meant that frame replacement was nuts.
@@kennypool gotcha, I thought you were talking about the plans for air ride 😅. This is a 2001 Honda Helix, with a aftermarket plastic set from webike. The frame is original but plastic set is not. I have been riding it how it is since I made this video and I love it. Such a great scoot!
@@TheBSRecord on your dashboard should read helix on left and Honda on right under the turn signal lights. That's not a helix dash.
@@kennypool hmmmmm not sure where you got that info but on a 2001 honda helix dash, Honda is the third light down on the left and Helix is the third light down on the right. Both of those are on my dash. Maybe it is hard to see in the video.
I have this Motor inside my Piaggio 250 GT.
Original 16220 KM.
Nice!
What part of the world are you in
Kentucky in the United States 👍
@@TheBSRecord yeah me too, couple hours to the right.
What happend to the air ride??
It's still there, I'm trying to figure out a shock mounting solution that's modular and safe. Hopefully sometime this summer!!
I noticed your lower panels are gloss black. I have a yellow 2004 and all my panels below the belt line are flat black. I have toyed with painting them to match the upper panels. Yours look really nice in a gloss finish.
Thanks for watching and commenting! The lower panels were included in the aftermarket fender kit I ordered. I like the gloss finish, really cleans up the scoot imo
Slam it dude
Oh it's gonna happen! Haha
Can I ask a question
Sure, go ahead 👍
