Came across a moose on a nature trail…massive animals at 7ft…lots of ravines with ponds here which they like…lovely composition with this fellow

A Moose❣️ Exciting! I have spent lots of time in the Ontario, Canada and Northern Minnesota woods and have seen lots of moose!
All of that was long before I started watercolor and never imagined that I would be painting a picture of one. I will be doing this one for sure, definitely using your sketch! Thanks for this tutorial 😊

I love it and love moose. We see them here in New Hampshire. Along with deer, bear, turkeys, fox, coyote, fisher cats, bob cats. I get a thrill every time I see wildlife. I'd love to see more animal paintings, wildlife and pets. Like I have a beautiful border collie and two beautiful Maine coon cats, I'd love to know how to paint them. I could send reference pics if it's something you'd be interested in.
I checked out the watercolor paper, looks like about $23 for 12 7x9 sheets, so still kind of pricey. Are there other quality papers you would recommend that are less expensive? I bought the three Etchr sketchbooks a while back and so far I'm not really thrilled with it. Maybe I need to practice more. And I have cheap paper from Michael's. Oh! I ordered a set of 24 QoR tubes and they'll be here tomorrow! I'm excited to set up a palette of artist grade paints.
Hi Renee, about the paper, the pack of 50 sheets of 8 x 12 inches is the very good price of 80cents per sheet, while the pad is $2 for a 7 x 9 inch sheet. So the pack of 50 is a very good buy and the pad is pricey because it's got wire binding and a thick card back and a cover, none of which you want to pay for! I'd recommend the pack of 50 definitely, and you can work on half sheets too, in actual fact it will go further. The Etchr sketchbook I have is good, but I can't vouch for the consistent quality of any of these sketchbooks. I bought a Viviva pad and it was great, then bought 5 more and they are completely different, so you don't have any control over this. So I don't know what your Etchrs are like, but it might be you will get used to them. I'll do another demo on mine soon too. I hope you enjoy the QoR paints, I'm sure you will. On the other subject, you are so lucky to have so much wildlife, how wonderful! I will be doing more animals, bit by bit, but they aren't as universally popular for some reason as birds and flowers! Oh, and butterflies and dragonflies! I've got a tutorial on a baby deer back in the older videos. I will I promise get to the other animals in due course! So glad you're enjoying them though!
