- The next album from Lupe Fiasco, Samurai, is due on June 28, and is apparently centered around Amy Winehouse being a battle rapper. The title and intro track for the project is out now, and I feel sets the tone really well.

Not only Amy Winehouse, but it also sort of reflects Lupe’s life long battle with the industry. Like it feels very natural for Lupe to discuss this in metaphor.
I was wondering if he was taking jabs at Jay. The lines about jazz (Jaz-O), the book, suits and bow ties, and the crashing at a friend's pad (reference to Nas's line in Ether).
... but then again, it could be the whole industry like you mentioned.

Great lyrics analysis - i was a bit confused listening to it first, still got a lot of philosophical mileage out of the lyrics themselves, but i didn't make the connection from who's perspective this was written. Now i know. Off-topic for a lyrics analysis - but the beats remind me a lot of Nujabes, Seba Jun, with the drawn out, almost smooth jazz style melodic brass and the softer drums in general. Looking forward to this album, really a welcome change of pace to all the tough guys right now.

There's a video of Amy in conversation with her producer, Salaam Remi, where she tells him that she's been writing battle raps and she doesn't know why. For those that still don't know, Amy was a hiphop head, as much as she loved Jazz.
