You've an insanely good understanding of proportions and I was absolutely stunned as you showed the face from different perspectives! I don't have the words for how beautiful it is and how much I respect your patience and carefulness for details. For me personally I liked the face without hair more, but the way you shaped the eyelashes are magnificent! Just last year I started doing pottery and I love creating faces on everyday objects like bowls and mugs so this time lapse video is a motivation boost on living out this passion
I always fire my sculptures. In order to do so you have to hollow it out. It has to be the same thickness all over and no more than 1’’.
Next thing is make many holes inside. The last step helps to evaporate hot gases during firing and takes care of any air pockets if there are any. Another important thing is to fire your sculpture very slowly.
Watch my video “Hollowing sculpture and preparing for firing in the kiln” It will explain it all.
I thought it was going to open its eyes for a sec.... That... Is freakishly an astounding piece of art. Bravo!
The talent and discipline used to create such beauty is so much more attractive than the physical attributes anyone is born with. Very impressive!
Thank you. I am making a simple head for a project and you have me good tips for making one with eyes closed. Your work defines art.
Just lovely. A work of art indeed. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
I am a loyal fan of yours, I have watched all your films. Thanks to you, I started my dream adventure with clay. Thank you very much for the opportunity to view your works.
Another masterpiece from a very skillful hands of Ms. Joanna M. -- brilliant artwork indeed!
Замечательная работа! Какое мастерство и талант! Смотреть как замечательный художник творит на наших глазах - истинное удовольствие! Спасибо за клип!
I really like sculpting and I really like your work. Thank you very much for teaching us
I have never seen how to do eyelashes and now I finally have an idea. Great video, thank you!
Am I the only one who felt like her eyes were gonna pop open at any second when the camera slowly zoomed in on the finished piece?
yes
yup...
Xantiago P yep? or no, your not the only one..
You are not the only one.
was expecting her to say "wazzap dawg"
Наташа, спасибо за чудесное видео! Настоящее мастерство, красота и фантазия автора поражают! Удивительная работа, и какое вдохновение!
this is such a helpful video. i have just started an apprenticeship with a master wood carver/clay sculptor and just completed my first clay face. this will help me with the next face i sculpt!
I would like this video fully without being edited a single minute.
that would be a long video! From what I can see most of the cuts she made are to let the piece dry, not to continue working. Many steps are done more easily after the clay has reached a certain point of drying.
What clay are you using?
What a beautiful face. Thank you for showing us the process.
Absolutely wonderful! I carve, so it is subtraction not addition, so working backward does have drawbacks as you cannot correct it! Sigh, in clay, however, you can correct...so i may give this process a try:) Again, I learned a lot. How does one figure out the profile? I see you working front position, but how to check the side view to be accurate? Just my q for today!:) Thanks for this great video!
OMG, your work looks so real, it spooks me out. I wish I could do this, you're very clever.
Oh my god that is beautiful! Your work is so amazing!
I guess I feel even more amazing when I see it alive or live, but I am grateful for the living model.
Thank you so much for sharing how you can make a face I am a beginner and didnt know how I have to go further. Love and kisses from me from the Netherlands
Spray little bit of water on the board and then press the clay firmly .
hi Joanna, this is amazing and so inspiring to me. I am sculping while watching your videos and it helps a lot to learn. Thank you for sharing this.!!!
This is an amazing talent! I do admire you.
This is truly amazing, I'm sculpting a female face myself right now, and your video is really helpful!
@the09conradz No, you need to fire it at very high temperature in the kiln.
Wow you gotta have some real talent to do this. Great job.
real talent..and hard work
Thank you for this - I'm inspired to go back to a bust I gave up on months ago. Thank you!
@lorod Thank you for watching my video. This particular face mask was created over a plaster cast of my own face, but it could be done on top of anything to use a smaller amount of clay.
Im glad im gonna start sculpture and ceramics class next yr in highschool.
If you have time could you reply back to a question for an upcoming sculpture artist: What is that liquid that you brushed over your piece afterwards? I'm assuming it's something to keep it preserved- if so, what is it? And do you hallow your pieces out to throw it in a kiln. I'm trying to make sculptures that don't require using a KILN as the process is time consuming and usually requires you to 'mutilate' your piece from the inside out. Any input would be great! Awesome work you have here
and if i saw that i would probably pass it off as real its just that good
Joannna, thank you so much for this video, it was very inspiring! You are a very talented sculptor. Quick question: is the entire face made of clay or is it "hollow" or "filled" inside with something other than clay? (seems it would be a lot of clay to use)
That was unbelievable. Bravo
That was amazine how thay have the skill to do that beautiful clay face art work .thanks a again, that was wonderful video step - by- step .thank you tube .
You make it look so easy! I admire your skill. :)
Very smooth & very nice
Juro que achei que a escultura iria abrir os olhos. hahaha
sensacional
May i ask what type of brand of clay this is and do you need a kiln to bake it?
stunning. thank you for posting this wonderful demo video!
Awesome! I love watching you work.
That's just incredible
I can't wait to try this again. !!!
Good luck
This is Beautiful, im trying to sculpt in a much smaller scale, im finding it somewhat difficult but have checked out a few different ways to sculpt
@jellipex I am firing my sculptures in my kiln at cone 04 or 06. Cone 06 is about 1830° F (999°C). The piece must be hollowed out before firing. I recommend doing this when the clay is firm enough to stand on it’s own without the support or the armature.
SHE IS SO BEAUTYFUL =)
did you fill the face with papers first then put on the clay? Or is the whole face made of pure clay??? Water based clay as in air hardening clay???
^__^ amazing demo
bello bellissimo fantastico ottimo lo adoro
i was expecting that face to just open its eyes and smile at the camera. so realistic
Hi I love your videos! You are amazing! What did you brush over the clay at the very end of the video? Was that some sort of sealant? I have air dry clay and some of my pieces have cracked or fallen apart over time.
at the end i was just waiting for her to open her eyes... omg that looks really real...
Check my other video "Clay sculpting tools"
Perfect, Excellent work !!!
Beautiful ...
I hate the hair, but i guess i hate the hair because the face is just perfection! You are amazing.
beutiful....but you make it look so easy
wow !!!!!!!!!!! beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, i love your work. This video taught me alot ! :)
such a talented woman, woow
wow Joanna, love it! I'm a beginner, now I'm just watching to learn, so could you tell me, please, if at the beginning you support the clay on something. I mean, you just stick the clay or have something else inside for the volume? Thank you
Hi Joanna did you used an armature please ? amazing work ! :P
When I make mask I don’t use armature.
Beautiful
That's a great fucken masterpiece
This is utter brillance! you are amazing :)
Awesome !!
Beautiful thanks.
This is plain awesome ! Most inspiring :)
It's fantastic! What tools are you using here?
Beautiful ❤
Amazing job. Did you use a support of a sort of skeleton below the clay?
omg you are totally amazing, your work is truly beautiful. for my art ALEVEL exam i have to creative a big 3d sculpture of somethink EGYPTIAN lol, and i have no idea what to do and ive very really used clay before any tips or ideas
impresionant !!! is perfect you scultura.
really pretty the only thing the face needs is ear's and at least one more coat of polishing though this work is really amazing
Just exquisite!
So would the next step be to take the sculpture off of the board and then hollow it out? Next put holes in it and then to fire it? Is this sculpture made to hand on the wall? If so, how did you do that?
This is so realistic
You r awesome!! is like the sculpture has its own personality! =P
Wonderfully talented!
If
Thank you now i can sculpture my ansestor she will be happy =) thank you
Hello Joanna, not sure if you still review these comments but I am wondering how you adhere the face sculpture to the board? Thank you for this video!!
Hi @Christina ... Driving a large screw or nail into the board would be an option, I think.
Magnificent!
Hermosa tu obra
I would like to know how you seal your work, if you do. I am using water-based air dry clay and I have let my work sit for a week or so, it is now fully dry, but I would like to seal it and paint, do you know of a good sealer?? I was thinking Mod Pog and then acrylic paints, do you have any experience with a good idea here? By the way you work is astounding, you have opened my eyes to sculpting with proportions like never before. Thank you for that.
great work
really very beautiful
It is just the clay on the board.
Nota milhão!! Obrigada!!!
This is a good video, great even. Thank you guanna.
increiblemente real!
@TheSKYizFalling Clay after firing can be painted in many diffrent ways.
I
I think sculpturing looks fun, is there a way you can make water based clay or do you have to just buy it?... I want to try. 😩👍😱😊
So Beautiful!
Beautiful. Well done👍🏻
Thank you! 😊
Very beautiful work .
is oil based or water base the best selection for this type of work ??
Wow.. amazing!
Wow, I’m so speechless 😍
totally wish I had a kiln!!!
very nice work
you r awesome! is like scilpture has its own personality! =P
Hey mate!
can you give me some tips.. what is the type of the clay. what brand etc... i am quite good at portrait-charcoal things. and i strongly believe i will rock in sculpturing. but when i try to do sth with clay it simply cracks. i think i m not using the correct type of material.
