Such a tune. I was a music teacher in a secondary school with a lot of disaffected black and Asian kids who barely had cultural representation, let alone representation in the curriculum (apart from maths exams where Iqbal is trying to figure out how to fairly share his oranges...) when this tune came out, the kids wanted to lie how to make this sound, and we had pcs that could run FruityLoops (I'd installed a crack). Overnight discipline problems disappeared in my classroom. I started running lunch clubs for kids wanting to learn production. took violence out the playground, into the computer, into music. thank you More Fire crew. I hope you know how important and inspirational you were.
Can't even disagree with that comment. This was the first tune that I remember took off for east man, after so solids album and buzz this came out around them times 01 or 02, you can by beat it has a slight garage sound like them so solid beats. This tune was even playing in an eastenders episode once in the background that's how big it got. Reel east ender ting cmon

I'm a 34 year old father of 2 with a job and a mortgage. This song makes my top 10 of all time. Absolute banger and a portal into the London grime scene in the late 90s early naughties.

I'm a white boy from the Midlands who mainly listens to metal but I remember hearing this in the early 2000s and just thinking it sounded amazing. I hated garage but this just sounded like some kind of mutant offspring that was a million times more interesting and authentic. After this I got introduced to Wiley and ever since I've always appreciated grime as some of the most innovative, exciting music coming out of the UK but this was my first exposure to it and it still sounds awesome.
I also mainly listen to metal and I also I like grime. You've perfectly explained why it's so good, it's just interesting and I like the 'hardness' of the vocals and beats. It's just interesting and raw. Next Hype is an amazing song. I know that Dizzee Rascal has spoken about his metal and rock influences, and that's probably why his album sounded so different.
It's the middle eastern scale they're using. It's the same used in countless metal tunes. That's what it is. Without that beat/melody this song is nothing.

I left the UK for South Africa the year this first came out. Discovered it by accident through a podcast by George the Poet. CAN'T stop listening to it. Totally mind blowing. I'm 45 years old and would sell my car for a ticket to see the original crew doing this live.
This choon was a game changer. The way it blew up overnight was immense. This got rewinds everywhere. All the big name DJs on the underground played it. It got battered on pirate radio before it stormed the national charts. The level of hype this got in the raves was next level.
