- Today we bring out some Federal Magnum 2.75" 12 pellet 00 buckshot from 1982 and pattern test it at 40 yards through the Remington 11-87 and its stock .688 full choke. How will this 40 year old load perform? Stick around and find out!
You can send stuff to the channel! (please no handloaded or reloaded ammo, factory ammo is fine *DO NOT SEND AMMO VIA USPS! USE UPS OR FEDEX ONLY*)

Excellent presentation. Thanks!
Thanks!
really liking the animal templates
Great! I definitely think they add a bit better perspective over just drawing lines or circles
Definitely like the templates.
I would be curious to see you run the same test with a modified choke to see if it tightens up the pattern. The tight constriction of the full choke with the larger 00 buckshot might be deforming the shot causing it to open up. When considering that 40 year old buckshot loads probably had softer shot, less protective wads, and less effective buffer material, if any at all, the older ammo might actually pattern better. I know when testing turkey chokes and loads, certain shot sizes and super tight chokes will actually blow out the shot pattern, thus the need to pattern different loads and choke constrictions. It would be neat to test a 40 year old 00 buckshot load to a modern Federal 00 buckshot load and compare those patterns side by side. Keep up the good work!
I do plan on testing it in other chokes as well I definitely like your idea for a side by side comparison of the old and new federal loads
Good self defense load if nothin else. The templates are a good addition
Yeah I would agree
That was informative... 25 yards or closer would be my guess for maximum range... Great video, thanks for sharing...
Yeah I definitely don't think you should push it any further
@@matttyreeoutdoorsOur goal is to tell Benelli to make wider patterns on theyre guns theyre guns are so powerful they just need wider patterns to bring down as 10 geese or more in a round. Thats the goal that i want them to realize to make the guns if we all contact them, may tree please do contact the Benelli for us all fans
I killed one of my biggest bucks with that exact load with a Belgium Browning A-5 light, federal premium were and still are the best of the type. 40 yards is pushing it but doable..
It can get the job done, but you just have to be careful with your ranges
Try a modified choke with the magnum loads might get better patterns I use a modified choke with buckshot
I have plans to test other chokes, but just wanted to start with the typical recommendation of a full choke to get a baseline
Maybe a good load for protecting the chicken coop. If it's less than forty yards.
Yeah, they would do the job
@@matttyreeoutdoorsopefully Benelli realizes the power of they're guns are, and make them wider patterns and in the longest ranges.
Find some tulu wolf buckshot. Curious how they would do. I have several boxes of them and dont really plan on shooting them incase of an emergency 😂 just Curious to see how they would perform
I can have a look around for some to test out

How are their guns more powerful? Shotguns are basically just a tube. Wouldn't the ammo dictate how powerful a gun is?
If you know Benelli than you should be very close an eye on them on theyre guns and to contact them to make wider patterns in the longest ranges
Why are u shooting buckshot at 40 yds
40 yards is pretty much the standard accepted distance when patterning a shotgun. If you shoot it at 20, the pattern is almost always gonna be tight. If you shoot it at 60, it will almost always be way too open. So 40 is the best medium to test for baseline results, unless it is a home defense specific loading
@matttyreeoutdoors when I was in law enforcement we never shot buckshot over 25 yards due to liability after that we switched to slugs id say looking at that u would be very liable shooting at 40
@backroadscamaro541 well this is much more of a hunting load, and that's kinda what we tested it for. Yeah of course, if you're using it against 2-legged creatures, you're probably not gonna shoot it past 20 yards, but in a hunting setting, you may be taking a shot at 40 or 50 yards pretty regularly
