    What do you think?
Is it good to parallel movies like Star Wars to the Bible? Or can this lead to a slippery slope. I'd enjoy hearing your comments below.

Americans worship their pop culture more than their religion. The highest form christianity was the monastery. It's supposed to be about self control and self discipline. If going to church has to feel like going to a movie then christianity is a b.s. religion.

A slippery slope between what, ancient play-pretend and modern play-pretend? Sure, could do that. Of course religions adopt/adapt/appropriate the themes and characters of the cultures they infiltrate throughout time, so I wouldn't be surprised to see some elements of Star Wars being crafted into dogma, though probably not in your lifetime.

Christ spoke about the people who "compass sea and land to make one proselyte" and then confuse them with false doctrine, such that they cannot apply the Atonement of Christ in their lives. So the question becomes, are entry points and outreach valid if the end result is someone with only a superficial understanding of God's plan for us?
Churches are seeking to become more "welcoming", ostensibly as a way to get the message out to people that God loves them. And then the message stops there. We cannot lose sight that the message is "God loves you...enough to make sincere repentance possible, then transformation through Christ by daily applying the Atonement.

LDS here for context. So I had a friend in college who ALWAYS included star wars references part of any talks, or lessons. We were home teaching companions and for ANY subject he would have a star wars story or parable to add to the discussion.

What a fun video! You put it together in a cute way. Loved it!
I think God meets people where they are at and yes even with a mustard seed of faith God can grow peoples faith.
I’ve had some inspiring quotes that were spiritual to me in the Harry Potter movies!
“It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
    And
"Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."
    Albus Dumbledore
These quotes are spiritual to me and I am an ALL IN IT member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
God speaks to us in our own language! He meets us where we are at to lead us. Your cardinals are an example of that.
Isn’t it wonderful to know how he truly loves us and knows us personally? ❤

I agree what you say. God meets us where we are at. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints in Taiwan. I think it's really cool that our church services are the same all over the world and it fits local needs at the same time. I love our church. I like to watch this channel to know other churches, too. It's interesting.

Great video, David. I always appreciate your insights. I love the original three movies (I'm old) and saw many wonderfully correct spiritual references in them. We are all connected to each other and everything and God by a force that we can tap into and feel that connection and God's power; once one starts done the dark path it will dominate one's destiny, but wait for it, there is repentance and change is possible; believing and hoping all things allowed Luke to be an agent for change for his longtime lost father; faith and action; mistakes don't make one dark, intentional choices do. It is just an extremely rich and filling trilogy.
I, personally, however, prefer to keep my Star Wars and my Church separate. I would be very comfortable drawing on analogies in a Sunday school class, but swinging swords and watching movies at church would definitely be beyond my comfort level.
I feel like what I perceive you saying in the video. A few years ago I would be totally thinking, "these folks have done lost their minds," but I am a good bit calmer and more open now. I realize there are folks that need to be reached that I will never be able to reach, people who need to learn about Jesus that will never ever walk through the door of the Church I attend. Who can reach them, and how? My evolving impression then became, give these folks grace and forbid them not. If they are teaching (and I don't really know the content of their teaching) faith in Christ and repentance, i.e. allowing God to pull them out of the mire instead of them trying to pull God into the mire, then have at it. I'll probably skip that one, but y'all have at it.
Then reading some of the comments of your wonderful viewers, I found myself agreeing with those saying that would be great on some night of the week that is not the Lord's Sabbath. Now that, I am all in. You want to invite me to a Wednesday evening, Friday night Star Wars church activity where some fun will be had, lots of fellowship, and some good solid gospel lessons to tie it all together, I'll be there in my Chewbacca bow tie. Associating this with the Sabbath worship was making me very uncomfortable. The Sabbath is holy, set apart, and ought to be treated differently. Showing reverence on the Sabbath is a very plain and easy way God has shown us how we, extremely flawed folks, show reverence and respect for God Himself.
Anyway, love the video, as always, and thank you for sharing. You sharing your experiences aids in my growth. Thank you.

I’m a true blue Christian and I shutter at the thought of churches doing outrageous antics to bring partitioners in on Sunday’s.
In my opinion..Worshipping God should be done with the outmost respect and reverence.
I’m sure there are other innovative ideas to gather more sheep. This is the kind of activity ought to be done on a weekend night…not on the Sabbath day!
      As I said..just my opinion.

I loved your perspective. I know a lot of people who have been burned in the church and then they leave religion all together. I'd rather have them connecting on a level where they feel engaged and appreciated than having them not stay spiritual at all.

  • @fredly112
    @fredly112 Před 4 měsíci

Why did you include Disney Star Wars? Don't you know they were excommunicated? xD JK. There is definitely spiritual value in exploring stories and seeking the Holy Spirit in helping you find parallels to the gospel (as well as using discernment to know when stories and media are trying to lead you away from Christ). Watching the battle at the beginning there, it was definitely a bit cheesy, and likely could have been done a bit better, but I was glad to see that right off the bat they were trying to draw a spiritual conclusion from it, and not just trying to be sensational. Overall, I think that when someone is trying to teach of Christ with real intent, it will be an opportunity for people to learn, even if it draws upon themes or stories that we might not otherwise consider religious.
