Premie Baby Gorilla Hand-reared To Full Recovery And Rejoins His Troupe

- The western lowland gorilla was born in late October 2021 and was the first gorilla born at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo in its 139 year history.
The baby was premature at birth and developed pneumonia in November requiring zoo animal care and veterinary experts to step in and provide hands-on 24/7 care of the gorilla until he fully recovered.
After his recovery, zoo experts placed him back in a nest and surrogate mother “Freddy” picked him up and took him back into her care.
Nicknamed “Baby G,” Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and Cleveland-based CrossCountry Mortgage will reveal a public naming opportunity of the baby gorilla in the coming weeks.
1:16 the other member is interested but you see how the surrogate momma grasps her baby even closer instinctively. This is just amazingly beautiful and baby is precious beyond words!

I'm so happy and relieved that Freddy took him back. There's always the risk that an animal mother will reject the baby if it's been under the care of humans for a length of time. Looks like all is well! Gorgeous little baby!
I just saw this today! He is so beautiful with his sorta Mohawk! Who wouldn’t want to be mama to this precious boy! So excited for him and the zoo!

I went to zoo in November and saw baby G. OMG is he ever soooo adorable!!! Freddie is fantastic!!!! I’m gonna go again soon! ♥️🦍♥️

@@dianecrumbley90 Hi. I found out his mom rejected her idk why? So Freddie just became attached to her and decided she wanted the baby . The baby had got pneumonia so they had to get her health better and now she’s reunifying with Freddie who accepted the baby as it’s own.. I asked if in the wild would the surrogate mom start to have milk if baby was suckling on her? Or would she have died? No one has answered me as of yet. So many people say don’t try to humanize then or compare them to humans but I do see so many human qualities and behaviors that are very much the same as us. The only thing is I think they lack empath or remorse but they still do have a lot of put qualities. 🤗
@@NanaD-ve9tt no she didn’t pass away. She gave birth and just wasn’t ready to be a mommy. So Freddie took over but baby gets bottle fed. They trained them really good. They gotta good system it works!!!

Does the surrogate mother have breast milk for the baby or has she not had any babies? Great job to the staff for providing this infant with the proper medical care and love.

The man said they are providing feedings for Baby G. I don't think Freddy could have milk and they don't show her feeding him which I'm sure they would have if she was.
I'm kind of partial to baby G, he was born just hours before my bday😁

Considering they are actually African animals you are more privileged than I am, a South African. To be so close to see them. But they are bush meat in Africa, so they are safer where they are. Take care.

Must a baby gorilla have the strength to cling onto mom without assistance or does the mom take special care to make sure baby doesn’t fall? Seems like gibbon babies need to cling on for dear life.

What a wonderful troop of gorillas. All members clamoring to see the baby. My question is how in the world do the keepers get the baby to feed him. I just can’t see surrogate mom Franky just handing baby g over to a human.
They're very intelligent animals. She knows she can't feed the baby and that he has to drink milk to survive. I too would like to see how the do it though.

Who is the baby's real mother? Why was he taken from her? And if this is the first baby you've had, how will Freddy breastfeed the baby?

When Nneka did not show appropriate maternal care, the troop’s eldest female, Fredrika or “Freddy” (47), who herself has raised four infants, instinctively took over maternal care of the newborn."

How do they manage to feed the cute baby?
On other gorilla video's....they would teach the baby to feed on a bottle through the cage bars. However, they were old enough to crawl to the bars where the keepers held the bottles. With this tiny infant here.....not sure how they work this out.
