Monica Rambeau Powers and Abilities Explained | The Marvels Photon

  • Monica Rambeau is one of the MCU's most disrespected and intentionally nerfed characters. The Comic Monica Rambeaus powers and abilities are stated to be exactly the same, so why are those powers and abilities displayed differently? Known by Photon, Spectrum, Pulsar, and Captain Marvel originally, Monica Rambeau commands, absorbs, transforms, and manipulates any energy on the electromagnetic spectrum. The implications of that are absolutely insane, and not even comics use that powerset to its fullest, terrifying potential based on what she has canonically been capable of in comics.
    Is Monica Rambeau the strongest Avenger? The case could absolutely be made.

    I feel like she only weak because it's all the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if she had her own movie where she evolve her powers. In the MCU I think she still learning about her self. She chose to be a astronaut over a hero before the marvels

      I think that’s a good point. She made a good choice because she was trying to help people her way. I hope they let her shine in future because the upper limit of her power is so crazy. It’s like Storm, nearly limitless conceptually and practically.

    Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!! I've always loved her and could never figure why people slept on her. Including Marvel for so long. I really hope they do right by her character in the MCU.

    The biggest issue is they gave her origin to Carol. Then made her Carol's Subservient, which is disrespectful to her character

    Her most recent comic book miniseries wasn't the best writing, especially the end. The conclusion felt rushed. Anyway, the series did reveal how powerful she really is and some some secrets never before revealed. Given what she did in that series, she should have drawn attention for Infinity and possibly other beings on that level.

    As OP as Monica is, the MCU gave her a major nerf (much like a lot of their characters). Hopefully the MCU leverage her being stuck in another dimension as a way for her to hone her skills via mentorship under Binary, who in short is a Phoenix Force infused Captain Marvel . Fingers Crossed, of course.

      Agreed. It’s frustrating and was for me since WV, but I do think they’re cooking putting her and her multiversal mom together. I wanna see that training montage. Pushups, pullups, squats, turning suns reaction on and off, lol.

      @@TheDOOMCAST They nerf her because these white nerds are afraid of black women. Go watch their commentary on Michael Burnham from Star Trek Discovery, Starfire, Iris West etc. They always never have anything positive to say about black female characters. I have a theory it's because black women have the ULTIMATE trump card on heroism due to slavery. Black women have had to fight for EVERYONE'S freedoms from white men so they have to vilify those women because they're defensive about being vilified themselves.

      Star Trek Discovery, Titans and the Flash are not a good example of having well-written black female characters, in fact the writing for characters like Michael Burnham, Starfire and Iris West from their respective shows was pretty awful and their characters are not well liked by the fandom/fans
      Star Trek Discovery is notoriously awful when it's writing and is considered buy a lot to be one of the worst modern Star Trek shows of all time, the writing is awful and the characters themselves are awful
      There's also the tone which goes for a dark and gritty tone which goes against the previous optimistic light future of previous Star Trek shows (even DS9 despite being one of the serious and darkest shows had its light moments) and feels more like something ripped straight out of Warhammer 40K or BSG 2003
      CW's The Flash is notoriously awful, the writing and characters were pretty bad and Iris West is considered by a lot of fans to be one of the worst written characters on the show along with having some of the worst storylines in the entire series
      Also the whole "we are The Flash" thing between Barry and Iris is pretty cringe and was one of the worst moments in the arrowverse
      Titans biggest problem was it had a good cast yet the writing was always awful / terrible and how the characters were portrayed / written was one of the biggest criticize aspects with the series
      Along with the fact that they got a vast majority of the characters powers and abilities wrong
      The tone was a mess as well
      Character writing was also pretty bad for a vast majority of the characters and it seemed like Starfire was the most hardest character to write a story for and it didn't help that they made her character unnecessarily ruthless and aggressive
      Let's not forget that Starfire has probably the biggest body count in the entire show and yet is supposed to be seen as a hero, yet comes more across like a villain.

      I don't think like that I actually think they're just gradually building her up😮
      I mean think about it if she had all of her abilities at the very beginning then you can't really make much of a story for her can you😂
      I mean she can basically beat everybody! Life the MCU wouldn't even have a threat!

      I would have preferred her being a powerhouse right out of the gate and then take her out of the equation once we get closer and closer to the secret Wars. Her being the leader of the new avengers alongside Sam Wilson's Captain America would have been great to see since the MCU Phase 4 and 5 have lacked a dynamic duo or trio similar to that to Steve, Tony and Thor
      Sam, Monica and Doctor Strange should have been the new Trinity/duo of the MCU.

    She’s still figuring out her powers. Being that she ended in 616 universe she’ll probably be trained by xmen . I’m glad they’re not nerfing as much as originally even if they still do a little. For all of DCEU failed projects they know how to stay more comic accurate wit powers and I respect it.

  • @milesthatcher

    I was going to try to make an argument that the movies are a different universe, but Little announced to me, multiverse of madness established the MCU as the 616 universe. The 616 universe is also the main story for the comics I remembered before that the movies were initially a different universe.

    • @TheDOOMCAST
      @TheDOOMCAST  Před 6 měsíci +3

      I think this is a place where feige f’d up frankly. Because it can’t be both be true right? Because events and people are fundamentally different. I write it off as this: almost any universe is going to think of their reality as ‘prime’. So it stands to reason probably a lot of these universes initially self-style as 616. From Marvel Comics editorial perspective I think the MCU is still 199999.

    • @iamdominichorne
      @iamdominichorne Před 6 měsíci +2

      I'm seriously praying for a long awaited "this isn't 616" retcon to happen because the MCU can not be 616, even if it's just for the movies.
