I remember how amazing this was in the cinema, I Was only 16 at the time.
This scene in particular was just amazing with the visuals and music, but also the surround sound effects of missiles and bullets firing everywhere.
Ah, I miss movies like this.

I am not American born but having lived there, I love USA and this movie is just one of the best. The casting for this movie was bloody spot on and superb.

I was 6, excited to watch this movie. And year after year when they broadcasted it on TV. Good times
Against a ship the size of a city, there is no other weapon such AGM-86 AGM-158 as Tomahawk missiles only fighters with AIM-9 sidewinder and AIM-120 missiles, which have a small warhead and for such a ship these missiles are like mosquito bites.
In reality, the role of the fighters would be to protect the B-1, B-2 and B-52 bombers, which would drop 2,000 lb Mark 84 bombs on the ship.
I believe is a bit of an oversight with production and script. The Hornets should've been calling Bruiser instead of Fox 3 as they were tossing AGM-84 Harpoons.
Unless I'm mistaken: the pilot of Eagle 7 is the same guy that wore the Harley-Davidson hat. I had a thought that he was a fighter jock in Vietnam and after the events of this movie he encouraged Miguel Casse to become a pilot and mentored him.
Yes out of missiles. Still, a good volley of 20 mm rounds from the Vulcan could have done a lot of damage
Not realy. Those missles barely scratched the outer armor layer, if at all. All they did was look good after impact, nothing major. 20mm? Wouldnt even dent the cityship. Against the superweapon i dont know. If at all it could have ben the laser hitting a target like directly in front of it that destroyed it (we will never know).

They did. Watch the scene again. You see multiple HEAVY impacts from larger than fighter rockets on that ship's bottom. At least patriots did fire, if not even other tanks etc.

No nukes or nuke carriers left. This here assault was a last ditch effort as we all know. And they went so hard all in you see tanks and patriots fire at the ship at the end, so how would they even be able to launch one of those? Suicide style? not gonna happen.

There were F-14s beneath the F-18s. 2 out 3 of my favorite 4th generation fighters.
Harriers as well right behind the Tomcats. Though tbh the Tomcats dont need to be that close. Have them higher up and further back hammering the Mothership with Phoenix missiles once they confirm the shields being down.
love how no one mentions the one guy first starts off as eagle 9, then goes to eagle 3, then eagle 2

Would Harpoon/Maverick more suitable for that kind of target? It seems that Sidewinder/Sparrow/AMRAAM doesn't have enough explosive charge to deal some penetration damage.
Not realy. What most dont understand is that you need to hit weakspots in order for those to work. Belt armor of an iowa is already to strong, i imagine the aliens being way harder armored given they barely took damage from the initial barage if at all.

To bring down a behemoth mothership there, Harpoon (488 lb warhead), Maverick (up to 300 lb), Tomahawk (1000 lb) are gonna be better weapons.
What I'd like to know is how David and Steve survive a in a crashing alien space craft ,falling to earth at a high rate of speed and land only where they can be conveniently picked up. Walking away from said craft. surely they should be dead.
Its a movie, you should first ask how the super advanced aliens didnt noticed up a 1947 crashed ship entering their mother ship. Logics dont apply in hollywood. Anyways best movie ever

Imagine a remake of this, just replace the CGI with better ones.

F-18 can carry more than four missiles. Assuming the opposion of giant mothership and alien fighters one could expect to carry more ordnance, yes.
movie shit.... a real fighter for an assault like that? at least 4 racks of 3 missles each. The F14 can handle those, not to mention the F16 can too. The F18? Has them as well. So whyever they didnt show them is beyond me... best part? This was around the time the F22 entered mass produced service, and she carries around 8 missles in her belly as well AND she can equip missle racks on her wings.
I love this movie. I just wonder where America's missile subs are. I would think that tomahawks from a sub in the Gulf of California should have been able to make it.

I love this movie. But why the hell are they using puny air to air missiles against that ship. They should have dusted off the old genie nuclear air to air missiles. But I know this movie is just a fun watch. Everything doesn’t need to be perfect
A mistake in the movie was that the president fired 5 missiles when he only had 4.

You can see they have various fighter jet in this scene, including 3rd generation aircraft, meaning that the worlds military has been obliteratef and they use whatever remaining in their disposal

Without a Doubt..When I went to the movie to see this Film..There were so many grinch worthy moment, the worst screenplay ..Make Irwin Allen’s The Swarm seem as poetic as Shakespeare ..ID4 Ripped off Every Good and Dumb Film. This was truly a dumb cartoonish film. Over Produced, Over Directed..Over Acted. Insane Plot. As if we couldn’t see Large as city Spaceships..in space approaching( there will be a moronic geek to explain why I am wrong) 💩🥴🤔
