    more than a foot of snow fell since yesterday.
    however my yard and driveway act is like a vacuum cleaner, with over 2 feet.
    Predator Engine didn't struggle thru it at all.

    First thank you for the video and information, my snowblower engine was over heating i fix that problem it run for a year then engine got messed up so i decided to add 212cc i was so frustrated on those dam pulleys thnaks shearing the part information it made it so much easy i am going to workon my snowblower before starts snowing 😅... did you get it runing just curious

      Yes, Use the gates 7280 belt for the drive pulley. It measures 28 5/8. Also flip the tensioner around 180. I think the stock belt size worked for the auger

    Nice work! I have the same MTD, but 1995 model. Did you have to adjust the chute crank once you put on the engine (it didn't hit the engine, did it?).

  • @khakuda
    @khakuda Před 2 lety +2

    Ok, the time has come. I have the same machine and the Tecumseh is leaking oil like mad. 1996-2022, RIP. I just looked at the price of new snowblowers and it looks like the price has gone up 30 - 50% for a lot of machines over the last year! I will bet the harbor freight engine is no longer $99 either. My hope is to make it through the snowblowing season and then I think I may give this a shot. I don’t weld so I am a little bit concerned about reversing everything underneath and I’m wondering how functional the machine will be if I don’t do that. Are the two forward speeds going to be enough. Thanks a lot for the crazy inflation Federal reserve with your stupid zero interest rate since 2008 policy, coupled with endless money printing.

    • @drewjager3455
      @drewjager3455  Před 2 lety

      Run your machine in the reverse gears and that's how fast it will move forward after the swap. Then all the forward gears will become reverse. It should be fine.

    Did you run this before swapping trans? What is the speed like with just keeping trans how it is and swapping motor?

    • @drewjager3455
      @drewjager3455  Před 3 lety

      I didn't run it before switching the transmission. You would only have 2 forward gears. Believe it or not, I still haven't got enough snow to use it lol

    • @maximusmax4557
      @maximusmax4557 Před 2 lety

      The R2 gear becomes 3, and the R1 becomes 2 (roughly). 5, 4, and 3 will now be reverse gears and will snap your damn wrists if you're not expecting how fast it is coming back at you! I relabeled the gear selector panel, so reverse is where 1st used to be, and now my two reverse gears are my forward gears. I also used some zip ties to keep the gear lever from going into gears 3, 4, and 5. I'm gonna live with it for now. I think!

    Question...the 15290 belt is on the 2" drive pulley? It's still too long for my snowblower.

      The 15285 was too short

    • @jerseyjoe66
      @jerseyjoe66 Před 5 lety +2

      I just completed this swap and this video was VERY helpful, but I found that the 15290 belt would slip on the 2" pulley, but a shorter belt (Gates 7280 - which was 28 5/8" long) while extremely difficult to roll onto the pulley, worked perfectly. I had the belt over the output shaft, installed the 2" pulley outside of it and used a flat blade screwdriver to "ramp" the belt onto the pulley. Also, I flipped the idler around since the belt is running in the opposite direction

    • @drewjager3455
      @drewjager3455  Před 3 lety

      Jerry joe found a better belt. The Gates 7280 is a better fit. Also, flipping the idler pulley makes sense. Two heads are better than one lol

    Does this engine run OK in cold weather? I think I have read in comments from some other videos that the carb needed a larger jet for cold weather use.

    Hey dude, I hope you can help. My buddy swapped the engine for me. The engine runs great, however the drive is not so hot. I drove fine before, but now it on ly has one reverse, no first or second, third is good, but fourth and fifth work but it takes a while for it to start moving.... I also notice the drive belt stops sometimes and the machine won't move, and in other gears it slows down and then picks up and in yet others its fine... Any thoughts on how this guy effed this up?

    • @drewjager3455
      @drewjager3455  Před rokem

      Try using a Gates 7280 belt and flip the idler pulley. Other guys have tried this and said it works better. I also gave it a try and it doesn't slip as much. It's just a pita to get it on. Also make sure that the trans is engaging.

    So tell me. How do you reverse engineer an actual gear driven transmission, instead of one of these friction driven jobs? I have a Craftsman with a 5 hp, dual shaft, Tecumseh engine on it. Have yet to find a video telling me how to work on an actual transmission, so it will still have 3 forward speeds and one reverse. Not one forward and 3 reverse.
